Story
Jagger is an 8 year old border collie / husky cross. He is 60 lbs of short creamy white fur with a striking dappled red nose & ears. He has a truly goofy grin when he’s happy and his expressive toffee brown eyes make it hard to stay mad at him for any length of time. He is house trained and absolutely adores his crate. He often puts himself to bed in it if if his people are up past his bedtime. He also likes to nap on the couch. Jagger loves playtime, his absolute favourite toy is his tug rope. He’ll amaze you at how fast plush toys can be taken apart. However, he is very gentle with his rubber toys. He tends to get bored, so rotating his toys is a good idea. Outside he plays with a large rubber ball but has the typical husky attitude after a few throws of “if you lose it again it’s not my problem “. Jagger has never truly played with a Frisbee, but given the space would astound you at how high he can jump. He is very smart and learns quickly. He’s food motivated and knows sit, down, wait, look at me, with me, turn, and of course high five. Jagger leans more towards his husky side. He walks well on his gentle leader but still has a tendency to pull when distracted. He likes nothing better than to see new places, he occasionally gets car sick but this is solved by timing his meals accordingly. Jagger is fascinated by water but doesn’t want to be in it, he will avoid puddles at all costs and take you home if it starts to rain on a walk. He loves being around it and will bring you right to the water’s edge, just don’t try to make him go in. Jagger is dog reactive, and will bark and lunge when he sees other dogs. This is behaviour can lead to him redirecting on whoever is near. When unable to escape he does have some leash aggression, interpreting any movement towards him as a threat. He has been making great strides towards correcting this, and rarely reacts to neighboring dogs. He would benefit greatly from a course specializing in reactive dogs. Jagger is an absolute sweetheart. He’s a cuddly fun boy that would do well in a dog savvy home with a well fenced yard with people willing to provide the training that the high energy and northern breeds need. He needs a quiet adult home with no other pets and experienced owners. Jagger is available for adoption together through Grand River All Breed rescue. The adoption donation is $400. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated as part of their adoption. If you’d like to adopt, please fill out an application. Story
Blaze arrived in rescue from a puppy mill.  He's now approximately 6 months  old and approx 40lbs, we were told a mix of Collie, maybe Border Collie.   He was adopted and returned because he has become too much energy and roughhousing play for their cats.  He's doing great in his temp foster and is already learning from foster mom's other dogs.  He's a terrific guy with the right family.   He arrived with the tip of his tail missing but has long since healed.     Blaze is crate trained and housetrained.  He was sleeping in a crate at night in the kitchen with his first family.  He needs work on leash walking, he is a puller.   Blaze likes toys, and games of (gentle) tug. He has good energy and would be a great match for an active family; he's a bright bulb and picks up training quickly. He's completed puppy training classes and is ready to move up to the next level of training. He'd be a fun and successful dog for someone who loves to work on tricks, training and even sports!   He's learning how to read other dogs better and is getting a good refresher at the doggy daycare.  He is learning better greeting skills with dogs his own size and larger, he takes it in stride and does listen to them. He needs supervision around smaller dogs - and has been told off a few times by small dogs who don't appreciate his unfettered, invasive approach.  He has no malice just an abundance of exuberance and inexperience and maybe misguided herding instincts (?)   He's a fine young boy, but needs a home without cats and without small dogs who would find him overwhelming.  He's great with people.  If you are interested in adding Blaze to your family, please fill out our adoption application at: https://www.speakingofdogs.com/adoption/dog-adoption-application-2/August 19, 2024, 10:02 am

Story
🐾 Hi there! I’m Joy! 🐾 I’m a lovely 3-year-old Border Collie mix with a beautiful black and white coat. I weigh 11 kg, making me the perfect size for all kinds of adventures! 🥰 My Story: I was rescued just in time from a kill center, and now I’m looking for my forever home where I can share all my love and joy. 💖 My Personality: I’m very affectionate and love to rub against people, whether I know them or not. I’m always ready for some pets! 🐶 You can lift me by putting your arm under my belly. I’m easy to handle! 🪶 Once I get to know you, I’ll happily show you my belly. It’s my way of saying I trust you! 🐾 I love meeting new dogs and always ask them to play. I’m a friendly girl! 🐕 I might need a bit of caution when meeting new dogs for the first time, especially if toys or snacks are involved. 🧸 When I see a cat during a walk, I stay focused on my human. Cats don’t distract me! 🐱 I enjoy outdoor activities and have a normal energy level. After a fun time outside, I like to rest quietly. 🌳 I tend to pull on the leash a bit, but I generally follow my human well. 🚶‍♂️ I don’t guard my food against people, but I might growl if another dog approaches me while I’m eating. 🍽️ I’m very calm in a kennel and know how to get in and out of a car by myself. 🚗 I generally only do my business outside. 🚽 Fun Facts: I’m people-friendly and get along with strangers easily. 🥰 I used to guard resources, but I’m much better now. My new family should be firm when giving me snacks or toys. 🍖 I might try to bite a stranger’s hand if I’m in a kennel, but that’s because I was traumatized while moving to a training center. 🏡 I don’t show any behavior issues at the training center, but I might need some time to adjust in a new place. 🐾 I’m looking for a loving home where I can continue to grow and share my affection. If you think we could be a perfect match, please come meet me! 🏡💕

Story
I'm Bandit, and I'm on a journey to find a forever family that will appreciate my loyalty and dedication. While I've had my share of challenges, I'm working hard on becoming the best version of myself, and I'm ready for the next adventure in life. I was surrendered to Dog Tales because I was protective of my family. It takes me some time to warm up to new people, but I've been putting in the effort and making lots of progress in my training. I'm a smart pup who's eager to learn and please my humans. I need a family who is committed to continuing my training journey, and I promise to give it my all. With the right guidance, I know I can be the best companion you've ever had. I can be selective with dogs, so it's important that any potential canine companions are a good fit for my personality. Plenty of playtime and fetch sessions are a must—I absolutely love playing with my people. I'm a pup who's always ready for the next adventure. Whether it's a game of fetch, a hike in the woods, or simply enjoying quality time together, I'm up for it. I'm excited to share my love, loyalty, and intelligence with a family who will appreciate all that I have to offer. If you're willing to invest time and effort into helping me become the best dog I can be, then together, we can create a future filled with love, training successes, and exciting adventures.

Story
This energetic boy is looking for a confident and active owner. Bairn is high energy and loves to keep busy! He enjoys going for runs, long walks, swimming and cuddling with his people. Bairn thrives with constant training and loves to learn new things - he is such a smarty pants! He is reactive to new people, dogs and some vehicles; he will need to be walked on a muzzle as a precaution. Bairn’s reactivity is decreased greatly with a combination of: draining his energy, always keeping distance from triggers, positive reinforcement for good behaviour, and constant training on his walks to occupy his mind and keep him in control. Bairn will need a dedicated owner to continue this with him long term. Bairn is not friendly with new people and will need slow controlled interactions when introducing him to a new person. Once he can trust you, he is a lovable and goofy guy. Patience and understanding can go a long way with Bairn and, in time, he will prove he is the best boy! He is only suitable in a house with a fully fenced yard with no small children or other dogs.
