All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, January 25th from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $700   Toby is a 6 month old Boxer x Beagle mix who’s ready to rock and roll his way into your heart! Toby was found wandering the streets of San Jose by good samaritans who did their best to find his former home. When that wasn’t possible, they got him seen by a vet and are now hoping to find him a new landing place where he can grow and thrive. Toby currently weighs around 35 pounds and will probably max out around 50 pounds. If you’re ready for adventure with a canine best friend, come and meet Toby!      Toby is a happy and loving puppy ready to make the world his own! He loves to play with his humans, his toys, and his canine foster brother. He adores his humans and loves knowing where everyone is. He is the perfect mix of active and laid back, especially for a large-breed puppy. According to his foster mom, he is 50% playful and 50% loungey. He loves his long walks though and would be an amazing addition to an active home looking to explore the outdoors. We could see Toby thriving in a variety of homes, as long as there is plenty of love in store for him! He loves having a playful companion but he could also thrive solo! He’s just ready to be your happy and faithful companion. He is also super smart as well as food motivated and has picked up tons of tricks in the time he has been with his foster people. You won’t find a better more amazing companion than Mr. Toby!  Toby wakes up at 7 AM and heads outside to stretch and go potty. He gets lots of pets and hugs before he relaxes as his humans start their day. He has breakfast at 8 AM inside of his crate and then spends some time playing with his toys and relaxing. He goes on a walk around 11 AM before returning home for an afternoon of napping and playing with his toys. At 4 PM he practices some of his tricks before he goes on another walk, followed by some playtime at the park. He has dinner at 7 PM and then plays with his toys. He winds down around 9 PM and heads to bed after one last potty break.  Toby currently lives with a large dog and they get along very well. He loves humans of all ages as long as they will play with him! Toby walks well on the leash and loves his strolls. He is house trained. If you’re ready to find your new pal, come on down and meet Toby!      Toby is an option for homes with prior dog owning experience. Kids should be over the age of 5.January 25, 2025, 12:25 am

Story
HI - I'M MICKEY.... and I have the most beautiful, wishful, soulful eyes. I am a handsome and sweet 4-year-old boy, who been waiting too long for someone to choose me. I am a small and friendly Boxer-Pit mix in need of a foster or forever home. I was saved from a California shelter, and weigh about 51 lbs. I do well with my doggy neighbors at my current location, and have been a model citizen. I would love human companionship, since I welcome human attention and affection, and would love to go for walks, hikes or other outings. Can you open your home and heart to me? I really have waited too long for someone to choose me. Please email for an application.

Story
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM BENJI! Benji is an almost 4-year-old Boxer-Pit mix in need of a forever home. He's currently in a foster home. Benji has had a rough go of it in his short life - he was rescued from a crowded California shelter, and later was attacked by another male dog at a boarding kennel. He is almost healed from his attack though looks a little rough around the edges during the healing process. Benji is very much a couch potato dog in that he loves to lounge on the sofa or sleep on your bed. He's a huge snuggler! He has done fine around other dogs, but given his recent trauma we think he may be best as the only dog where he can get all of the deserved love and attention. He's very affectionate, and loves belly rubs. Benji is also an active, strong boy so he needs a strong owner, and someone who can take him for walks, hikes and other outings. A big, fenced yard would be a plus, but is not a necessity. He does have a prey drive for squirrels and bunnies, so probably would do best in a home without cats. Overall he's a mellow, easygoing boy. He weighs about 60 lbs. Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Cricket, the petite white and gray boxer mix. Cricket came into the Shelter as an owner surrender. Cricket lived in a home with a woman and another dog. Her favorite things to do in the previous home are snuggle, play and run. Cricket is currently hanging out in a foster home to take a break from the Shelter and gain some confidence. Her foster reports: “Cricket is a wonderful, sweet dog. She is smart, a quick learner, and human-focused, On leash, she likes to walk in the city or on trails and generally doesn`t pull. She likes to play and have fun, and is able to settle and cuddle by your side. She notices other animals, especially dogs, but doesn`t act aggressively, more it seems like she wants to play. She sleeps well in a crate at night. Overall, she is a delight!”Due to some reported prey drive in her previous home, Cricket is required to go to a home without cats or small animals. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Energetic, loving, and goofy 9-year-old Ella is super sweet but needs a family with an experienced dog owner. A little under 2ft tall and 40 lbs, she's sleek and muscular. Ella is fully house-trained and very patient with the three cats she lives with. She's never lived with kids but is generally chill with the children in the neighborhood.
She loves her toys, playing fetch, tug of war games, following you around the house, and of course, napping. Ella wants to be involved in whatever you're doing and is alert to someone coming to the door. She is highly food motivated, Ella picks up new tricks quickly but can be stubborn and easily distracted, so she needs lots of consistent positive reinforcement to maintain behavioral changes. She has many opinions and she will let you know about them.
Ella also plays well with other dogs, although sometimes she has issues with dogs larger than she is, but is good at de-escalating potential conflicts. Ella really loves company so if her new people are gone for a full work day she will need a canine companion. She's leash trained and always excited to jump in the car to visit the park. Ella is a great dog looking for a home where she is loved and cherished. Would you be the one for her?" Ella is now being fostered in Oakland, CA and her adoption fee is $275.00 Arrangements to meet our dogs occur after an application has been received. Please contact us at dogzonerescue@yahoo.com for more information about this great gal or for an application to adopt.
