He is a quiet keeper but lets out words of enthusiasm when you get home or you leave on an exciting adventure! Harley doesn't realize his true size and would be a lap dog if he could! Harley is eager to move into a home that can give him loads of attention and take him for some fun adventures. This incredibly smart lad knows his basic commands, he loves to show off his 'shake' command, he walks well on leash, and he is even crate trained. Harley is a graduate of the Unchained program, where at risk youth work with dogs on their training. Harley does great with other dogs and even cats, but people are his favorite company. He's a gentle giant with tons of love to share with his next family! He's truly one in a million! Harley joined us as a guardian surrender after his former family became unable to care for him.

Story
WOOF! I'M RILEY! I'm a 3-year-old cute Boxer-Shepherd mix in need of a foster or forever home. I have dark eyes and it looks like I wear shades! I was recently rescued from a California shelter where I was pretty terrified - I sat in the back and looked at people as they walked by. But now I'm coming out of my shell. I have done great with other dogs so far and am quickly adjusting to be a happy boy. I weigh about 50-55 lbs. Can you foster or adopt me? Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Spike, the senior brindle boxer boy! Staff have observed that has been social and easy going since his arrival – even giving kisses, if you’re so lucky! His previous guardians reported he enjoyed his walks out on the town and meeting dog friends out in the world. At the Shelter, Spike has made quite a few girlfriends – standing still with his tail wagging and then a sudden big playbow! From March 10th to March 17th, this dog’s adoption fee is reduced to $50 during the Get Lucky Adoption Special. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Ruby 💎 Ruby is an extremely sweet and loving girl. She loves her people so deeply and isn’t biased on who gets her love! A giant bucket of pure joy! She loves to chew her toys! Also has the endurance for short walks and loves to explore new things to sniff! But she takes a strong arm as she is learning to not pull still. Continuing training with her is ideal as she has some catching up to do! With proper introductions- she happily lives with dogs! She does get overwhelmed with young children so we think it’s best that kids are older. She is crate trained, potty trained and knows basic commands. The parts we know of her past is heartbreaking! She was rescued from the kill list at Devour Animal Shelter. She was obviously used as a breeder dog who had many litters with the c section scars to prove it! Her back leg muscles were weak and she had urine burns which means she didn’t get time out of a crate besides being bred. Due to her past, she takes time to trust that other dogs are her friends. Ruby has been vaccinated, microchipped and fixed! She is ready for her new home! Ruby is about 5 years old.

Story
Looks like: Bull Dog mix Male, 4 years old (estimated), 45 pounds Sir Ferdinand is a charming gent who would love nothing more than to be the star of your home. He's your typical Bull Dog -- he has slobbery kisses to share with anyone he meets. He also has the typical Bull Dog medical needs. Ferdinand loves to play, and would do beautifully in a home where he can can get out all of his energy! He likes to chew and play, and he will need a patient home where his guardians can provide him with proper dog stimulation -- toys, licky mats, and puzzles galore! We love this goofy guy, and know you will too! This bowling ball of a boy came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after he was picked up as a stray. They needed a rescue to take on his medical needs, which was only possible with the kind of help our dogs get in their foster homes.

Story
Looks like: American Bulldog mix Male, 9 years old (estimated), 47 pounds Get your hearts ready because this gentleman is an absolute heartbreaker! Meet Sir Walter Bradbury, the most adorable and loving blind senior pup you have EVER met! This sweetheart gets along wonderfully with other dogs, big and small, adores children, and loves every human he meets! His favorite activity is napping in the sunshine, and in his older age, he prefers sunbathing over strenuous activities. This sweet gentleman has been blind for some time and navigates his surroundings well. His family even taught him some special commands to help him get around! Walter Bradbury also has a heart condition for which he takes meds twice a day. Sir Walter Bradbury came to POMDR because his wonderfully loving family moved out of the country, and they were restricted from taking him with them.

Story
Looks like: Bulldog mix Female, 6 years old (estimated), 45 pounds Polly Pocket is one darling little lady who is ready to wiggle her way into your home. Polly is full of energy, and loves to play with people, pups and toys alike. She's a low-riding bundle of joy and is ready to give her new furever family a ton of love! She makes everyone giggle with her goofy smile and light-hearted nature. Polly also rides in the car like a champ and is super food-motivated!! Polly gets along with other dogs and likes to play, but will let them know if they are invading her space too much by putting her paw on them. We love that she communicates like this, and think she will do best in a home with another dog who responds well to her boundaries. She has definitely had a few litters of puppies in the past, and we think Polly is showing her motherly instinct when she does this. She would also be great as a solo pup. This sweet lady came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after she was picked up as a stray.
