Story
Sawyer was saved from a high kill rescue only shelter in GA last year, this shelter is not open to the public so these dogs don't have much chance of getting out. I am the President of Dogingham Palace Rescue that is writing this bio for Sawyer. I fell in love with him when I meet him as he is stunning and so sweet. I was looking for a dog that I could walk/hike with, with my husband and his dog. Sawyer was so easy on the leash for me. Back in 2022 I fought stage 3 breast cancer and have some of my journey on facebook under Dogingham Palace Rescue. Rescue is what got me through a year of chemo, radiation and surgeries. I was wanting to get my strength back and lose the steroid weight and having a dog with you on a trail is way more fun than being alone. I have now found out that it has spread to my lungs and through no fault of Sawyer I want to find him a wonderful new home. He needs more than I can give him with knowing I have another fight on my hands. He deserves to be in a home that can give him what I can't. When we would go out on trails if he heard children he got so excited. So would be good for a family or single person. He loves to play with dogs in my house. Mainly plays with 2 other dogs his size but also loves to play with one of my 10 lbs Chihuahua too. I do not have cats but I don't think he would be a problem for one. He is pretty much house trained, but does still have an accident here and there. He sleeps in a dog bed right next to my bed. I do crate him when I am not home as he is still very much puppy. He does also like to counter surf and we have lost a few steaks and other meals to him...lol. He is very food motivated. I think he was just left outside the whole time till I got him. He loves to play and also loves to come in and chill on the couch or by my side. Sorry the pictures are not great, he wants to move when I try to get pictures. He is definitely a dog that turns heads and everyone who sees him always asks what kind of dog he is. If you are interested in this handsome fellow please email us at Doginghamrescue@aol.com so we can send you an application. We are based in the Nashville, TN area and have most of our dogs transported up north. The $500 includes the adoption and transport fee (will have a health certificate too). The transport fee ($250) is not refundable if things do not work out.

Story
Rye is searching for her forever home as the only animal so that she can soak up all the attention from her humans! RYE'S STORY FROM OUR DIRECTOR: Rye was brought up to the DMV Region from a Texas shelter in 2020. I was working for another rescue at the time, running the transport/foster program, and offloaded her myself when she arrived. She fit into the palm of my hand she was so small and only a few weeks old. She was adopted immediately, incorrectly labeled as a chihuahua mix. Unfortunately, 7 months later, her family returned her due to the combination of the pandemic and how "big" she got (she's only 40 lbs but they were expecting an 8 lb Chi-Mix!). Unfortunately from there, Rye was bounced around from foster to foster and boarding facilities until 2021 when the previous rescue felt it was best to euthanize her. I couldn't let that happen so I adopted her with the intention of finding her a home! I renamed her to Rye (named for the kind of whiskey) and started working on training with her. She was our first intake when I co-founded Laila's Legacy in 2023 and we've been working to find her a home since then. RYE IN THE HOME / HER PERFECT FIT: Rye has the funniest personality. She's got energy, bounciness, and is so inquisitive. She's also insanely smart. The latter is a blessing and a curse because she learns training so quickly, has great recall (although I've never allowed her to be off-leash just long-lines for hikes/walks), and learned leash walking skills very quickly. On the flip side, she needs a lot of mental stimulation to keep that big brain happy! I've found it really can be a mix of things to do that though - sitting outside on the stoop to people watch from my house, sitting in a park with her practicing neutrality (and getting treats of course) while I read, practicing all her tricks, working on recall on a long-line, playing tug/fetch, brain games and puzzle toys, you name it. Anyone that is excited to go on walks and spend time with their dog - have a companion - will love Rye. She just wants to hang with her humans and get some mental stimulation while she does it. In late 2021, Rye started urinating in her crate. An odd behavior because she's very potty trained and crate trained. In early 2022 she had a seizure and it was then we discovered she was having mini-seizures causing her to urinate in her crate. Unfortunately, they do still occasionally happen but she takes a once daily med called Keppra which is easy to get from Chewy and she LOVES peanut butter so she takes it every day without issue. I've seen the crate urination drastically reduce and when I was working from home full-time it was non existent because she was hanging with me outside of the crate so much. Rye's intelligence comes from her breed - likely Catahoula or some sort of herding breed. That's where her prey drive comes from as well so she'd prefer a home without cats! When it comes to her relationship with dogs, she loves to play. She'll play with mine and have a grand ol' time romping around with them. Because of her herding tendencies she's been muzzle trained as well for playing and has a cute bright pink muzzle for when it's needed and she wears it with ~style~. In the home, Rye will guard her items from other dogs. This could include food, toys, bed, etc. so for her sake we recommend she not go to a home with dogs in it. But honestly, that will also be a win-win because she LOVES her humans so fiercely and wants to be your companion that it'll let her have all the one-on-one time she and her future owner will love. Rye has been through a training program and her trainer loves her. Rye's future forever family will be connected with that trainer for a "Rye 101 Course" on her training and are highly encouraged to do more sessions and continue to build her education! While I adore Rye with my whole heart, and have been honored to spend so much time with her, it's time for this sweet gal to find her forever home and get OUT of the rescue world! She deserves to be the spoiled queen she wants to be and I can' t wait to see that for her! Please check out her video at here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Oz8dKkj64 ------------ Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue does not guarantee that any dog is housebroken nor crate trained. We strive to provide accurate information on all of our animals however, we are unable to guarantee an animal's breed, size, health, behavior, temperament, or any other conditions. Looking for a loyal, sweet companion to spend your days with? Well, look no further because this pup we lovingly call "Snoop" is ready to be your perfect family member! This bundle of joy is sure to steal your heart because he has certainly stole mine Snoop already knows how to sit, come, go to bed(crate), and wait patiently for his meals. He’s also working hard on his potty training and is making great progress. His potty training has been better than any other 4 month old puppy I have ever dealt with.  Crate training has not been a problem. He is crated over night 8 hours without accidents or barking. He is less enthusiatic to be crated during the day but will go in without issue.  He is a true social butterfly who loves everyone he meets. And if you’re looking for a snuggly companion, Snoop is the one for you. He is extremely respectful of our resident dog and understands when she wants to play and when she wants him to leave her alone. He would love to have another dog friend who is equally playful and snuggly. He is curious but mostly uninterested in the cat.Snoop is a gentle giant, and he is growing so much every day. We are pleasantly surprised by his calm demeanor and gentle and respectful personality. He is a true lover. He reminds me of Ferdinand the bull :)   Mandatory in person transfer date: March 22nd at the Petsmart in Tysons Corner between 10:00 AM-11:00 AM. Mandatory in person transfer date: March 22nd at the Petsmart in Tysons Corner between 10:00 AM-11:00 AM. All adopters must attend in order to finalize the adoption. Lemongrass is a sweet, curious, loving, cute, and smart puppy. She loves her play time and her naps. Her curious little spirit makes her a great companion for walks. She enjoys saying hi to other dogs but also knows when to let them chill. Her intercation with cats is still to be explored. She is a natural at playing catch and she is so smart she already learned how to bring and drop the ball. A few other commands she has mastered during her training sessions are: sit, paw, place, drop, stay, leave, and come. Her potty training has been an upward trajectory as she knows she has to do her business outside and having a consistent schedule helps her stay on track. She is a calm companion during car rides. She is working on controling her excitement when she sees their favorite human come back home. She will be sure to give you some love, cuddles, and will make a great addition to her forever home.      ##2284181##

This friendly young boy is on the calm side, which is a nice surprise given his youth. Toast is not just a good boy, he's a great one! He is sociable, and is always ready to make new friends. He is unsure of other dogs right now, and may need more socialization. He would do best in a home as a single dog, or introduced properly to the resident dog. He is great on leash and the perfect size! Toast would do best in a single family home with a yard. If you're seeking a loyal friend, Toast is ready to fill that role. He's not just looking for a home, he's looking for a family. So why not submit an application today and give Toast a chance to be part of yours!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. I do great with other dogs, I love playing with them, it's my favorite thing! I can be a tad shy at first, but I warm up quickly. I'm sweet too, I've been told. I'm still learning, but I'm eager to please. At my young age, I am in my prime for training and socialization. I promise to be the best friend you've ever had. (*Please note that the specific event pages are typically updated on Fridays with information on which dogs will be attending each event.*) You know the saying, "A penny for your thoughts"? Well, once you meet sweet Penny, she'll be the only thing on your mind! A recent mama, this lovely tricolor hound mix is 7 years young and has a calm and friendly demeanor. She's always ready to make new friends, whether human or canine. As for cats, we’re unsure if she sees them as friends or foes. Penny is the perfect balance of calm, cuddly, confidence, and independence. At seven years old, this sweet gal has experienced a lot, but she still enjoys roaming around outside and making new friends. Although she may be slow-going at times, Penny is still such a sweet pup. Penny loves to go on walks, and her leash manners are impeccable. She doesn’t seem to know any basic commands, but she’s a pro at “hounding,” taking her time to stop and sniff out every new scent she encounters—there’s always something exciting to discover in her eyes (and nose)! And, of course, like a true hound, she hasn’t met a treat she didn’t like. If you’re looking for an older laid-back gal with a calming presence who’ll be a loyal and loving companion, pretty Penny just might be the perfect match for you!
