Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be reviewed and/or contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL. Mileage requirements may be lifted for Cavalier experienced homes.
Sophie was taken into our rescue after her family reached out asking for help. They were overwhelmed with having young children, jobs, a puppy, & life. It simply wasn't the right environment for Sophie & training was taking a backseat. Sometimes people don't realize the commitment a puppy takes & we were thankful that the family reached out to our rescue to get Sophie to a safe place.
Sophie has a lot of energy; it is puppy energy. It is curiosity, excitement, intrigue, & she can be overzealous. Her adopting family will need to be prepared to train Sophie on basic commands and behaviors, just like any other puppy. She can be vocal at times an apartment lifestyle is not a good fit for Sophie & the neighbors!
Sophie has proven to be reliably potty trained while in her foster home. As always, a new home, new environment, means new schedules will have to be established with consistency & positive praise! Sophie also does well on a leash, but she does tend to pull & get excited. So while she will leash walk, her family needs to be prepared to invest some time training her.
She does enjoy playing in the fenced yard with a few other four legged friends. While a secure physical fenced yard is highly recommended, it is not required for Sophie. She does need someone that is home most of the time or at least another pup in the home that she can be with.
Sophie is allowed on the furniture at her foster home and does just fine while her foster mom is at work. She also sleeps in the big bed at night with her cavalier friends and foster mom. Sophie is a typical sweet friendly Cavalier, but she is still a puppy. We just want to make sure that she is adopted by a family who plans to take the time to let her be a puppy & properly channel her puppy energy. Many Cavaliers are content with couches & lounging. Sophie will likely be an activity Cavalier, maybe going for long neighborhood walks or a hike!
