Story
Old Yeller, is that a new trend? Old stuff made NEW?? Cause I am NOT old, although I am Yeller, a really pretty YELLER COLOR!!! :) I am a Yeller Chesapeake bay retriever/ YELLER lab mix, it is important for my new family to know about the Chesapeake bay breed. We can be very stubborn, smart and independent and I really like to be in charge, so my new family needs to be strong leaders too. I am a handsome bloke, with swirls of yellow and white all through my coat. I am very smart and very sweet. I can from a high kill shelter with no hope- Now I EXUDE hope!! And LOVE!!! I WAS heartworm positive but have already finished the treatment and am NEGATIVE and just stay on prevention for the rest of my life. I am good with other dogs, but really would be best in an only dog home, cause I want all the attention :) I LOVE MY people and I tend to take "control" of my home so have to have a couple of things... 1) STRONG leadership owner, 2) I have to have an owner who will be wiling to not let me meet everyone who visits.. I want to protect my home a little too much... and 3) I have to stay in the San Antonio/TX area so my rescue friends can keep close tabs on me and how i am doing :) I have been running and playing since I am safe, but really am a couch potato. I am a bigger boy and about 65-70#. Look me up, get my number, text or call me OR just APPLY to ADOPT ME!!! I will be waiting by the phone!!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

Story
Help, Help!! I’m Rupert my Mom is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever Mom and have a Poodle Dad. I’m THE most sweet and gentle puppy. The humans say: He’s super smart and loves activity. He’s has a beautiful coat. He is crate trained, house trained, knows sit, stay, and come. The foster parents are not able to care for me due to health declined and have walking problems. Even though the banner on profile says I need neutered in next 30 days vet said we need 3 more months. I comes hassle free with two crates, large box of toys, treats, a full bag of food, walking harness and leash. Tons of love to give and waiting for my fur ever home.

These pups are in Newport, Kentucky too!

Story
Finn is a sweetheart 3 year old lab mix who is finally ready to find his forever people!   Finn had a rough go at life before making it to his current foster home. He was hit by a car resulting in a tail amputation and came back to SAAP when his former adopter was in an accident left that them unable to care for Finn. As a result, Finn is a pretty nervous guy, and he is learning that the world isn’t that scary!   Finn is a cuddle bug and a velcro dog who loves snuggles and his people more than anything. He seems to be dog selective and is a little socially awkward, so he would do best with a patient, confident dog friend, and slow introductions.    Finn has been working hard on training in his foster home to be ready for adoption. He is learning to be brave when cars drive by on walks, how to ignore other dogs walking, and how to be calm and relaxed in his crate. Finn does best when crated about a maximum of 5 hours and is mostly responsible when left in a dog proof room/space (he sometimes gets a taste for his bed).   Finn’s training is being supported by Pawlished Dog Training, and his adopters will get a free lesson and lifelong support! We would love for Finn to find a foster to adopt home to help guide his future family through his transition to their home.    March 19, 2025, 2:39 pm

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION If you’re searching for a sweet, loyal, and loving best friend - Freya (knows Millie) could just be your girl! Freya is great with kids, house-trained and crate-trained (but she doesn’t need to be crated when you’re out. She’s sooo well-behaved!). Freya would likely do best as the only pet. She did not get along with a pup sibling at her previous home and was returned to SAAP to find a better family fit. She’s been waiting for her perfect match—could it be you? Apply today to meet Freya!March 22, 2025, 8:48 pm

Story
Cheers came back to SAAP after being adopted as a puppy in 2015. He loves butt scratches and is house trained. Cheers really struggles with big changes in his life, so he will need a patient adopter who will give him ample time to settle into a new life - likely several months of adjustment time. Cheers takes some time to slowly build a relationship with new people. He doesn’t dislike new people, but he also doesn’t make much effort to bond in the beginning. Once he does begin to feel safe, he likes to curl up on the couch and nap near you, and he happily accepts affection. When he is feeling overwhelmed or stressed, he will bark, but that reaction does diminish significantly with time.  Cheers seems genetically predisposed to lumps and bumps. He did have one cancerous mass that was completely removed upon his return to SAAP last fall. He has quite a few other lumps that the vet has determined to be fatty masses that are not of concern. Many of his siblings have had similar diagnoses and are all doing well despite the lumps. Cheers gets easily overwhelmed by other dogs and children, and wants to go after cats, so at this time we are recommending he be adopted as an only pet to a household without kids. If you would be interested in fostering or adopting Cheers, you can apply for either option on our website!November 4, 2024, 10:45 pm
