Story
FOSTERED IN: Oak Forest, IL 60452 ESTIMATED DOB: 2017 WEIGHT: 8 lbs KIDS: Visitors Only DOGS: Yes, Calm Only CATS: Unknown HISTORY: Pickles came to us from an Animal Control Facility. ABOUT: Pickles is a special little girl who will need a very special adopter who is willing to manage her heart condition. (See more below) Pickles is such a sweet little girl. She can be a little apprehensive of new people at first but after a few moments she wants everyone to give her love and attention. Pickles has a special affinity for men! Pickles will bring love and joy to any home that adopts her. Pickles is housetrained, does well in the car, and walks well on leash. She is generally very quiet and only barks at normal dog things like the doorbell or an unusual/loud noise. She is crated in her foster home and does very well. She actually spent most of her time in her crate the first few days, so she does appreciate having a safe place to call her own. Her foster home said she is such a good, easy dog. Her foster said it is hard to remember she is sick because she is so happy and full of life. Pickles does well with other dogs, but can only be placed with calm dogs who will not encourage excessive activity from her. We also think Pickles will be best served in a calm, adult-only home due to her medical needs and restrictions. She will likely be fine with gentle child visitors. Pickles has a congenital disease called Reverse Shunting Patent Ductus Arteriosus. Her life expectancy was listed as 1-24 months on her cardiology report, but because she responded to the medication well, we are hopeful she will have a longer life span. Her foster home said the medication made a noticeable difference. Pickles is already quite the survivor at 6 years old! Her cardiology report states that ⅔ of dogs with her condition do not survive past 1 year. Pickles will need an adopter committed to her medication regimen as she receives 5 different medications. The cost of her medications is approximately $80-90/month. Her food also needs to be specific due to elevated kidney levels. She is currently doing well on Purina Pro Plan dry. Pickles is also to remain on an exercise restricted life, she should avoid heavy activity, a lot of excitement, and temperature extremes. Her adopter will need to expect to keep up with regular veterinary visits including potential future cardiology appointments if/as needed. Pickles is not spayed, and cannot be safely sedated for the surgery. Her heat cycles will need to be carefully managed. If you think you have the room in your heart and home for this special-needs girl, more information on our adoption process and our adoption application can be found at www.luluslockerrescue.org.

Story
FOSTERED IN: Chicago, IL 60634 ESTIMATED DOB: 2016 WEIGHT: 15lbs KIDS: Yes DOGS: Yes CATS: Some HISTORY: Twix was a stray that came to us from a Chicago shelter. ABOUT: Twix is such a friendly girl who doesn’t know a stranger. Everyone she meets is an immediate friend. Her foster describes her as sweet, calm, patient, gentle, easy and… perfect! Twix is an affectionate girl, but is not pushy or needy for attention. She will just quietly follow you around to always be ready for pets or attention when you have a few minutes to spare. She also enjoys sleeping in bed with her foster parents. Twix is generally very quiet. She does not even join in when the other dogs bark, with one exception - she does not like to be crated. She will scream and cry until she is let out. This includes on car rides - so she might do best with a harness and seatbelt. Her fosters haven’t found this to be a problem because she is completely trustworthy in the house. She just curls up on the couch for naps until they return home. Twix enjoys walks and is very good on leash. She doesn’t react to anything. She is also very good at waiting to go outside to go potty. Twix briefly met two children, and she enjoyed their pets and attention, so she will likely do well with calm, gentle children. Twix is being fostered with 2 cats. She does great with the cat who is confident and indifferent, but is more interested in the cat who is more skittish and prone to running. She will likely do well with cats who are confident and can hold their own around dogs. Twix is being fostered with other small dogs and she loves to be around them. They don’t play together but they do enjoy smelling smells and taking naps together. Twix had two benign masses removed when she was spayed and had her teeth cleaned and is now ready to find her forever family. If you think this incredibly sweet, easy girl is a good fit - you can find our adoption application on our website: www.luluslockerrescue.org.

Story
People often ask us what kind of dog Milo is, and we could try to guess what breeds he is (your guess is as good as ours), but we’d rather just tell you about his personality. Because he has a pretty great one! Milo is above all things, a lapdog. If there is a lap to be cuddled, he is there to curl up on it, and soak up all the love. And he isn’t picky. Be it his forever family that he is bonded to, or a friend visiting for dinner. Milo doesn’t discriminate. If you are a willing participant, he’s happy to share his snuggles with you! Milo doesn’t mind meeting new people, and engages them with happy tail wags both inside and outside the home. How dog friendly he is is a bit of an unknown as his foster home doesn’t have other pets, but we would be happy to explore this with purpose if a family that applies has other pets. He does show interest in seeing other dogs on walks, but has not met any of them. Milo very much enjoys his walks, and gets so excited when he realizes it is that time! He’s fairly low energy in the home, and doesn’t need a fenced in yard, but a walk or two a day would be necessary, along with other potty breaks. He doesn’t prefer his crate but will go in it when his foster family leaves the home. As is common with little dogs, Milo is working on his potty training, and shows continuous improvement. As for his eye, Milo likely sustained an injury to it before he was found as a stray. It was removed to prevent further issues down the line, such as glaucoma. It does not impact his daily life, and he is a normal guy! The adoption fee for Milo is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Milo please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team members.

Story
Pablo (noun) - a medium length, wire-hair black chihuahua who has ears 5 times too big and legs 5 times too short and stumpy for his body. Might be a chiweenie. See also: loyal, smart, snuggly, energetic, happy stalke-errr we mean shadow; the most well- behaved chihuahua as long as you are not a large dog, child, or stranger. Prefers the company of small, female dog friends and one or two patient adults who have a great sense of humor and prefer a calmer home without too much chaos. He can also share a home with cats, though he will sometimes try to chase them. A Pablo's favorite things include: early morning snuggles in bed, couch snuggles, sunbathing flat on his side looking dead, treats, playing with toys, and spending time with mom and/or dad. Best Skills: - Name Recognition: responds to Pablo or Rico, and comes when called even from the backyard when he is barking at the neighbors, the mailman, children playing on the next block, or the wind - Eating (though he can be picky, he likes to keep you on your toes and always guessing what he's going to like each hour) - Potty-Trained! Yes, behold a chihuahua who is potty trained! - Crate-Trained: though he doesn't like it, he will go right in on his own when asked - Sit: sometimes, if he wants to and a collection of other random skills his dog-trainer foster mom has tried to teach him. Okay, so maybe he's not book-smart....NEXT! - Sleeps through the night - next to you in bed and under the blankets of course - Confidence: he prances around like the rightful king of his castle with his own unique strut - Olympic ready: he is a perfect candidate for his favorite activities! sprinting, jumping, murdering stuffed toys, picking pills out of food, playing fetch, and napping - the most muscular, buff chihuahua you will ever meet! so buff in fact, his muscles busted right out of his Hawaiian shirt (which he hated anyways because he doesn't like clothes) - Protects his people: you will never pee or shower alone again! He positions himself with his butt to you or the shower and guards the door for predators while you do your business. He will also protect you from any perceived threat by barking loudly and saying "go away you scary _____(Insert thing thats only scary to Pablo) ____ or else! Leave my mom/dad/furry sister/my house and territory alone right this instant!" What a gentleman! - Stuck-like-glue: being a stalker is not usually a great quality to have unless you weigh 9lbs like Pablo, and then it's okay. He will follow you everywhere! He will sit next to you on the couch, be the big or little spoon at night while you sleep (how versatile!), stare at you while you eat, follow you around the house from room to room. You'll do everything together forever! Quirks: - He is a Chihuahua: he needs someone who understands he's a chihuahua - and he acts like a chihuahua. He does not want to make new friends, he only thinks he wants to go for walks but really doesn't, he barks a lot, he is selectively people and dog friendly - but he also will become your best friend within a few hours time. - He needs a forever home where his new family doesn't like to have people over to visit often, as it really freaks him out to have visitors disrupt the peace of his safe-space aka your home. Are you ready to meet your new tiny best friend? Visit www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt today to find out more about how to join Pablo's inner circle.

Story
Dove is a total love and the complete definition of velcro dog. So if you don’t want a dog next to you on the furniture or sleeping next to you in your bed, she is not the dog for you. She has no idea as to what personal space is. She definitely adores her people. Dove gets along with the other small dogs in her foster home. She doesn’t, however, want to share your lap, but a simple correction and she is fine. She’s still learning she needs to share. Dove would do best in an adult household as she really isn’t into kids. A small dog secure fenced yard is a must for her. Dove is housetrained, with reminders, and potty pad trained. She is also spayed & up to date on vaccinations as well as current on heartworm and flea prevention. Dove’s adoption fee is $475. You must complete and submit an adoption application before a meeting with Dove can be scheduled. The application serves as a basis for a conversation. If you believe this wonderful little girl is for you, then go to heathersfosterdogs.org to complete and submit your application. Using the menu at the top of the page, click on “Adoption Application.” Submit your completed application & you will be contacted. ***Please note that we are a foster based group located in the southern suburbs of Chicago. Story
CALLING ALL CHIHUAHUA LOVERS!!! Go no further, I’m your guy. Hi everybody, my name is Huey and I’m a 9 lb. Chihuahua mix that’s about 1 year old. I’m an overall happy go lucky guy who is just as sweet as can be. I have been doing pretty good with my house training but am still a puppy with a small bladder So making sure I get put outside to go potty regularly will make you and I both happy campers. A fenced in yard that is small dog proofed is preferred but not required. When home alone I currently hang out in my crate, as I’m still a little too young to be left out on my own. I may cry a little at first but after a while I will settle down and take a nap. Because of this, an apartment may not be the best arrangement for me. Ideally, I’d love to end up in a home where someone is home with me quite a bit. At night, I love to be able to cuddle up with my human in bed. Like a little human, I like to get under the covers and I’m out like a light. Speaking of being with humans, I don’t really understand the whole personal space concept. I want to be as close to you as possible. When it comes to my walk, you may think I’ve been tipping the bottle. I have a little pep in my step, and sometimes end up walking a little crooked. I am very smart, and I am picking things up pretty quickly in my foster home. One thing I’ve learned is to sit for my food. I also come pretty well when called. As I mentioned earlier, I am young and still have a few puppy tendencies. So far I think I’ve stayed out of trouble for the most part, but I do like my little tennis balls and my bones. You may want to make sure I have plenty of those, or I may end up chewing something I’m not supposed to. It wouldn’t be on purpose, I just don’t know any better. I’m also pretty good at entertaining myself with my toys. I’d be best in a house with no small children as I can get a little nippy. Slow introductions to new folks coming into the home are probably best as well, as I do like to protect my home. Overall I’m a typical Chihuahua with a lot of personality and sweetness. I’d love for you to meet me and make me a part of your family forever. I have been vet checked, neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, am up to date on routine shots including rabies and have been treated with flea & heartworm preventatives. Huey’s adoption fee is $475. Interested in adopting adorable Huey? Then go to our website, heathersfosterdogs.org, to complete an electronic application. Use the menu at the top of the page & click on “Adoption Application.” Submit your completed application & you will be contacted. You must submit an adoption application before a meeting can be scheduled. The application serves as a basis for a conversation. We are located in the south suburbs of Chicago and generally serve the greater Chicago metropolitan area.
