Story
Oz is a small pup, about 7-8 months old and expected to weigh under 30 pounds when done growing. Recently neutered, he's making great progress with house training and holds it well while crated. Oz settles in his crate after a few minutes and only barks appropriately at strangers or loud noises. He loves treats and quickly learned commands like "no" and "go potty."During the day, Oz enjoys napping on the couch but sleeps in his crate at night, though he'd prefer the bed. He loves playing with his foster siblings and various toys and he loves interacting with children and other dogs after initial introductions. We think Oz would be happiest in a home with other dogs to keep him company throughout the day. In the yard, Oz is energetic and loves to chase and play fetch with his toys.Loyal and protective, Oz is very attached to his person and barks at potential intruders. His biggest pet peeve is being left alone, and he's known for his adventurous spirit, occasionally trying to escape the yard. Oz's greatest accomplishment is quickly learning his name and coming when called, making him a delightful and intelligent addition to any home. Can you give this sweet little guy with big dog energy a home today?Interested in adopting this dog?Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. Story
While not a direct descendant of the Romanov dynasty, Tatyana is a regal, fun loving companion who gets along great with humans of all ages as well as her fellow canines. She is amazingly adaptable and will be just as happy to chill and sunbathe on the deck as to chase a tennis ball. Tatyana is housebroken and knows a few commands, but there is a great opportunity to teach her more as she is a super-fast learner. Taty is a good eater, does well on walks and will catch a few winks during car rides. A crate is not needed as she loves to snuggle in bed with her humans and will stay still and doze until you are ready to start your day. Taty does have a mild skin condition and takes medicine to help prevent itching. She also will politely disassemble stuffed toys, but what dog doesn't enjoy doing that?If you are looking for an adaptable, easy to get along with dog that is great with people of all ages, please come see Tatyana. She is eager to join your family and be your cuddle buddy.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Meet Patches Patches is a cute, tan and white Chihuahua Mix, estimated to be about 2 years old, weighing 15 lbs. She is very cute, and good with most other dogs but sometimes is selective about her friends; she was confiscated along with several other dogs, ended up in a downstate animal control, and finally found her way to BAARK. Patches is well behaved, affectionate , an overall nice girl. However she has many traits typical of a Chihuahua….can be dog selective, can be bossy with other dogs, and will not back down if another dog challenges her. So, if there is another dog(s) in the household, he or she should be mellow and laid-back. While affectionate, Patches is not fond of cuddling. She’s an independent spirit and prefers to do her own thing. She will surely make a great companion for adults familiar with the breed and able to appreciate the Chihuahua personality. Patches is fully vetted, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm prevention, spayed and microchipped. If you are interested in adding this independent spirit to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Story
Sophie Marie arrived at BAARK Dog Rescue along with her housemate after their mom went into a nursing home. While we were able to bring both girls into our Rescue, they do not appear to be bonded to each other, but greatly enjoy the company of other dogs. Little Sophie is about 11 years old, a sweet female Chihuahua who has had a tough life when it comes to her health, Sophie was stricken with glaucoma and required removal of one eye; her other eye has limited vision. Despite her limited vision however, she is very confident in moving throughout her foster home, and loves to be front and center in the household. In addition, Sophie is diabetic, and requires a prescription food along with insulin injections twice daily after meals. In spite of her issues, Sophie is quite a little character, deserving of a forever family of her own, able to meet her medical needs as well as her need for an active social life…as well as a cozy place to rest her body when the day is done. Sophie is up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm prevention, spayed and microchipped. If you are interested in adding this adorable girl to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. Note that BAARK is located in Barrington and adopts primarily within the Northwestern Suburbs of Chicagoland.

Story
Chickpea is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! We met Chickpea at Chicago Animal Care and Control in July, and he was just the cutest and friendliest little thing! We were honestly kind of shocked, as most small dogs down there are terrified and huddled in a corner. Chickpea seemed unbothered by the whole ordeal he was in, and came right up the front wagging! The rest is history! Chickpea has been convalescing in a foster home with a couple and their dog, and has even met the small grandkids and large grand dog and done well! He is housebroken on a routine, and is fine left home alone for a bit to free roam with his dog pal. His foster mom writes, "Chickpea is a most different Chihuahua in that he rarely barks, unless, of course, he needs to protect the property! He loves to chase or be chased by the other house pups or just wrestle around a bit. He likes to sit up high so he can see who or what is coming and going and whatever else is going on in the world. He also likes to accompany me to any and all outings. He just likes to be with me because it's boring being home alone with nothing to do. He likes sleeping with us and maybe under the covers, if it's a cold night. He would be very happy to live with another four legged, as they know how to play!! Chickpea's adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Story
Hi, I'm Skylar, the Cuddlebug! My middle name is "Pet Me". I was a stray in a Southern Illinois rural area when I was picked up and put in doggy jail. Adopt-A-Pet came and took me out and put me in a foster home so I could find a new family who would take proper care of me. My best guess is I'm somewhere between 3 and 5 years old. I weigh 17 pounds and kind of look like a large chihuahua. I'm sure there's some terrier in there too. I am tri-color with some pretty unique markings. Just look at my pictures! I LOVE attention, snuggling up with you & getting a massage: back, butt, tummy or head. It doesn't matter. Just pet me. I can sit or lie down on the couch or recliner next to my foster Mom, while she's on the phone. I won't move for an hour as long as she's massaging somewhere on me. That's the main time I sneak in a few kisses!! My second greatest passion is taking long, sniffing walks around the neighborhood. I'm really good at learning new things. I came to Adopt-A-Pet knowing pretty much nothing, and now I've mastered some of the basic commands. I know Sit, Come, Stay and Heel. Mom has me sit at every street corner saying, "It's a street." I am also learning to Down. A good obedience class with my adoptive family would really help in the long run. I'd be the star student, rather the teacher's pet. When I first came to this house I wasn't neutered and had to mark my territory all over. I didn't know that I was expected to do my business outside. Now I am neutered and my foster mom took me outside constantly to make me learn this. I still have an occasional accident but I've pretty much mastered housebreaking. I'm still a little leery with strangers and it might take me a little while to warm up to you. But once I do, watch out - I'm your friend for life! Again, that obedience class that you're going to take me to will help with this. I'd do best in a quiet house with someone that's home a lot to give me Love and let me reciprocate. Someone who enjoys taking long walks. No little kids, please, as I'm just not used to them and not quite ready to take them on yet. Will you please come and take me home so I can Love you? Skyler's adoption fee of $350 includes: vet exam, DAPP (distemper combo) vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, Rabies vaccination, 4DX heartworm/lyme test, flea/tick preventative, heartworm preventative, routine deworming, microchip and neuter.

Story
Hi everyone! My name is Cubby and I am senior pup looking for a fur-ever home. I am currently in a foster home while I wait to be adopted. I was told that each dog needs a bio so potential adopters can get to know me. I agreed but said a human had to do the typing :)So here is what I have to say about myself:--I prefer to be in a one pet household. I am not a fan of cats or other dogs in my space. --I am housebroken and crate-trained.--I am not sure how I would be with children.--I love going for walks and do well on a leash.--I can be left home alone though I do cry a little at first.--I am not destructive so your shoes and furniture are safe.--In terms of a forever home, I do not need a fenced yard or a canine companion. I love to play and be petted.--I am up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, and have a microchip.Do you have room in your heart and home for me? If so, email dogs@almosthomefoundation.org to get in touch with my foster parent.Adoption fee is $100Email: dogs@almosthomefoundation.orgAlmost Home Foundation's adoption requirements:Be at least 21 years of age;Have the consent of all adults living in the household;Have approval from the residence owner;Have valid ID with current address;Be approved by Almost Home Foundation as a suitable adoptive home; andLive in the suburbs surrounding Schaumburg (Illinois Residents only)*** Please note that Almost Home Foundation accepts only cash or checks for adoption fees; we do not accept debit or credit cards. ***

Story
Beavis and Batista were recently adopted, but their new parents split up, and neither of them could keep the boys. Now, at their young age they find themselves in need of a new forever home! They are young brothers who are little guys at 15 and 20 lbs. They don't have to go to the same home, but they like each other and could stay together if you're looking for a dynamic duo! They also get along with other dogs, besides each other. They even lived with a bunny who had free roam of the house! If you're looking for a pup (or two) who are snuggly, playful, and sweet, that describes them perfectly. They love people once they get past any initial shyness, but Batista is nervous around young kids.Email: dogs@almosthomefoundation.orgAlmost Home Foundation's adoption requirements:(1) Be at least 21 years of age;(2) Have the consent of all adults living in the household;(3) Have approval from the residence owner;(4) Have valid ID with current address;(5) Be approved by Almost Home Foundation as a suitable adoptive home; and`(6) Live in the suburbs surrounding Schaumburg (Illinois Residents only)*** Please note that Almost Home Foundation accepts only cash or checks for adoption fees; we do not accept debit or credit cards. ***

Story
Poppy is an adorable senior Pomeranian Mix, estimated to be 11.5 years old and 11.5 lbs. He’s a very cute, sweet dog but he is a little old man who just likes to hang out with his favorite human(s). he’s not a cuddly lap dog, and is not especially playful pup. His favorite activities are napping and watching what’s going on around him…without necessarily engaging in any activities. He’s more of an observer vs a participant! Poppy would sure love to be an only dog, but, would do ok with another quiet senior who would not bother him with play or cuddling. He’s looking for a place to just chill and hang out in his twilight years, not being bothered by lots of people or by children. Poppy is in overall good health but he appears to have poor eyesight. He just had extensive dental work. He is of course neutered and microchipped and is up-to-date on all vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is on year-round heartworm prevention. And has recently had full bloodwork. If you’d like to add this cute senior to your household, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.
