Story
Skip! Skippity doodah is a 12-year-old, 10-pound Chihuahua mix. Skip's dad sadly away. Now Skip is hoping someone will give him a new home. He is truly adorable, timid but sweet, and loves to give kisses once he knows you. Skip is good on a leash, fine in a crate, quiet in the car, and would be okay with other laid back dogs. But, young kids and really rambunctious dogs would be too much for him. Skip likes to cuddle, but is willing to play too. He's the perfect balance of fun and calm. Skip is now our longest resident, and we aren't sure why. :,( He decided to advocate for himself with these words: "Hey you! My name's Skip. But you can call me Skipper because I'm in need of a first mate. I'm a fair weather skipper so I like naps and rolling in the yard when it's sunny and warm, but limit my time outside if it's rainy or cold. I can be a big sweetheart. So, If you want to put me in your lap I'll give you plenty of kisses and I always appreciate a snuggly nap. Dog beds are a MUST, so make sure those are always available... a skipper needs his beauty rest. I'm really good in a crate and am happy to nap in there too. As much as I love to nap, I also REALLY love to go on walks! Like any skipper, I have a few quirks. I'm nervous around strangers (who isn't??). Things that shouldn't scare me make me jump (doors closing or stepping on crackly leaves). Things that SHOULD scare me I ignore (Roomba's, moving vehicles, lawnmowers). All that to say, I know once you meet me you will look past any of my quirks. Now be an obedient first mate, and use those big paws to fill out an application and come work for me... your trustworthy Skipper. Sound like a match for you? Then, please apply: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $245. Story
Bugsy Malone is a chiweenie (Chihuahua/dachshund) who is 8-pounds and 7-years-old. Bugsy has the typical big Doxie voice, so he shouldn't go anywhere with shared walls (I.e apartments, condos). He likes to cuddle, will play with other small dogs and toys, watch television while in your lap, walks well on a leash, and likes to cruise around in the car with you. But, he needs a really secure harness as he is a Houdini with many harnesses. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $295. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, heart worm checked, and on flea/tick and heart worm preventatives. Story
Louie is a fun, sweet, adorable Chihuahua mix. He's 2-years-old, and weighs 11-pounds. Louie gets along with people, kids, dogs, cats, and birds! He is okay on car rides, walks, and being crated. He will beg for attention all day if you don't give it to him. Essentially, he wants to be your lap dog. Louie does use his voice, so a home with no shared walls is ideal (I.e no apartments or condos). He has totally ingratiated himself with his foster family, and would happily bond with yours very quickly also. Please give Louie the forever home he deserves. You will feel like the luckiest to have him in your life. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $325. Story
Taz is a 1-year-old Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix. He's a very thin 8-pounds, but he's already filling out with good food and lots of love. Taz was terrified at animal control, and with his foster for the first couple of days. He needs to figure out you're not trying to hurt him, and then he will come BEGGING for the love and belly rubs. He still gets a little overstimulated at times. So, you just have to follow his signals. He will crawl into your lap and lick your face until you're sure you have no face left. Ha! No young children in the home please. This poor guy has suffered enough in his short life. All he needs is a loving home with pawrents who can continue to help his trust of people grow every day. Taz gets along well with other small dogs, is pretty quiet so far, and rides fine in a car. He does well on a leash also. Taz has really come out of his shell. He loves playing with other small dogs, and has filled out nicely. He is now a healthy 10-pounds. This young cutie is going to make someone very happy! Story
Cooper is a distinguished, 9-pound, older gentleman. He's used to children and other small dogs. However, he can be a little shy upon first meeting. Words, and photos, cannot properly describe how cute this little man's face is. He likes to roam around a fenced yard, sleep in, and basically just chill with you. Cooper is potty trained as long as he's taken out every 3-4 hours. He previously slept in a crate overnight, so no need for potty breaks while you sleep. If there has not been illness of his lifelong dad, he would not be looking for a new home. Cooper is said to be a Chihuahua/Terrier mix. He came his brother Sheldon. But, the boys are not bonded. We just know there are people out there who love the older pups as much as we do. This bud deserves to be pampered throughout his golden years. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $245. Story
Sheldon plays a genius on tv. But, in real life he's an 8-pound Pomchi...Chipom...Teddy Ruxpin...Chihuahua /pomeranian mix. Boy is this guy soft! He's 13-years-young, and still has the spunk of a younger fella. Sheldon was raised with children, and another small dog (Cooper is also available. They're not bonded). He's currently in a foster with other dogs, a cat, and kids. He's very cuddly, and happy to sleep near you all day. In his previous home, Sheldon was let out to potty every 3-4 hours, and then crated overnight. If he is kept to this schedule he is good at holding his potties. Sheldon hopes his dashing good looks, and his teddy bear love will win someone over soon. Please apply here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DBSR/Dog His minimum adoption donation amount is $245. Story
Monty is currently enjoying his time in a foster home! Monty's foster mom says:Monty is a grumpy old man, but with a lot of love still to give. He gives sweet little kisses but grumbles when I kiss him. He loves burrowing under blankets. He has been a picky eater and since he was so skinny, I'm spoiling him with hamburger and chicken. Part of that may have been his dental issues with abscessed teeth which are now resolved. He is a screamer when you try to do things he doesn't like - putting on his collar or his sweater. Makes me think he has been abused before and screams when he is scared. As he gets more secure in feeling safe, I hope that resolves. He comes when called inside and outside. He is mostly potty trained but has marked since he wasn't neutered. He will have accidents if not taken out every couple hours. Puppy pads help during the day.Monty is on Keppra to manage seizure's, so that will have to factor into your decision if interested in adopting!

Story
Pepe is an absolute joy to foster. She is a love bug who loves to snuggle, but is happy to be on her own as well. She enjoys lap time, but will sleep on her doggie bed if your lap isn’t available. She sleeps in her kennel at night (she tucks herself in under a blankie and it’s adorable). She prefers to sleep in and might be a bit grumpy if you try to wake her before 8 a.m. She is a bit on guard and might offer a low growl at anyone or anything she is unsure about. So far she doesn’t seem that keen on taking walks and wants to go home after a house or two. She does occasionally utilize potty pads inside the house, but has gotten very good at going potty in the fenced yard. She doesn’t beg for food and doesn’t expect table scraps. So far we haven’t found a toy that interests her. She does OK with another dog in the house, but it would probably be better if the other dog is more submissive. She is good with cats. Pepe is a 6 year old chihuahua mix. She is a smidge overweight at 12 pounds. Pepe's $300 adoption fee includes her spay, vaccines, heartworm test and prevention, flea/tick prevention, and microchip with registration. Story
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Located in Decatur, IL Say hello to Neon! This guy was formerly a stud in a puppy mill but he has left that world behind him! He has just started to play and currently his favorite friend is the handsome pup that looks back at him in the stove's shiny surface! He can keep himself pretty entertained! Neon is mostly good with other dogs but sometimes his chi attitude presents itself and he gets jealous and doesn't want to share a lap. It's all just for show and hasn't done anything.
