Story
Lexie is estimated to be around 5 years old and about 15 lbs. Here is Lexi (Alexandria), she's a sassy, spunky, and energetic (est) 5-year-old Chihuahua mix who's about 15 and a half lbs. She's a little nervous at first but once she loves you she cannot get enough of you. Does not believe in personal space. Biggest snuggle bug. She is sassy and loud and let's you know what she wants and when she wants it. She loves her fluffy duck and her bed, and is always excited to go for a W-A-L-K. While this little sweetheart loves long walks and exploring, she has fantastic leash manners and is incredibly receptive to commands. She needs a very special home, a little under 3 years ago she was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. This is very well controlled with her medications but she is going to need those for the rest of her life. She also needs to go to a child free household. She was treated badly at a previous home, and since then human miniatures are a no-go. Lexi is excellent with other dogs, cats, kittens, adults (again, little nervous but incredibly food motivated and will do about anything for a treat). If you would like to inquire more about Lexi, please reach out to Long Way Home so we can connect! To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Story
Laverne and Shirley were rescued from a breeding facility. Their previous environment wasn't the best - so now they enjoy the retired life and being pampered. They had no idea what grass was and still prefer hard surfaces to potty. They are very much inside dogs except Laverne loves to sun bathe. Neither of them plays with toys much. Laverne occasionally will play with a small Lambchop toy or chew on a flavored Nylabone for a short time. There is an occasional zoomie when they're feeling frisky. They both love to hunt for treats in their Snuffle Mat but they mostly just eat and sleep at your feet unless it's treat time. They both like belly and ear rubs. Laverne is the bigger of the two (about 10 lbs) and is the most affectionate, although still a very shy girl. She will come to you for attention and seems to bond easily. She does not like to be picked up so she will run if she feels fear. She can't see out of her right eye (born with an undeveloped eye), but it doesn't seem to bother her or slow her down. She does not like to be held but will sit for short periods in your lap or at your side. She takes life in stride and nothing much seems to bother her. She's happiest when she's lying at your feet napping.Shirley is about 8 lbs and is extremely skittish and puppy-like. She doesn't like loud noises or surprises. She will run if she feels threatened or scared. She needs a new Pet Parent that will take the time to gain her trust with kindness and treats and can provide a calm, quiet life for her. She is better at bonding with women than men but has shown some improvement in that area. She is much more energetic than Laverne and we call her the Wack-a-Mole because she will pop up her head and dance around if she wants your attention or a treat. Both Laverne and Shirley have learned to use the doggy door to go potty. They will still need some reminders in a new home. They will use peepads and especially prefer them in bad weather. These sweet girls need more work walking on a leash but they are coming along with it. They aren't used to taking walks and Shirley especially has very tender and easily infected feet (webbed feet) so a soft surface is necessary if walking becomes a routine. She can not be walked on gravel or any rough surface. They can be adopted together or separately. They love each other but sometimes prefer to sleep in separate kennels. They are great friends but their personalities are very different. To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Center Ring and Center of Attention - that is where Madeline wants to be! She plays until the lights go out. She will tackle anything, small dog, cat, human, or the Great Danes at her foster home. She enjoys treats, being outside, toys, being in your face to give kisses, all animals, and walks. She does fine in the kennel...as long as she knows you aren't home. She is like the Energizer Bunny - this dog literally plays at 110% until you turn the lights out at night. She needs playmates and an active lifestyle! She may look like a lap dog but she would prefer running around most of the time. Any and all attention is welcome - being ignored is not acceptable :) She has a huge personality and needs just the right family to have the fulfilling life she deserves! To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.
