Story
Adoptable Lili Location: Calgary, Alberta Breed: Chinese crested Age: Approximately 7 years old Size: 9.6lbs Sex: Female Energy Level: Low Cats: Not known, most likely okey Dogs: Yes Prey drive: No Kids: Not known, children over 12 most likely okey Medical: Heart medication Adoption fee: $300 Meet Lili, a gentle, sweet and strong girl who is looking for her forever home. Lili is becoming interested in toys and is hanging out with the foster home’s other dogs. Lili’s energy level is on the lower side and has not yet gotten the chance to go out on many walks due to the weather. When it comes to house training Lili has come a long way, still having some accidents and due to her medications she does tend to need to go out a bit more! When it comes to being left alone at home, Lili has no issue with that. Her foster home lets her have free rein of the house, and she is the perfect little girl. Lili loves the other dogs in her foster home and goes on playdates with the neighbours dogs, so we believe she would love having a buddy in her forever home. Cats and smaller animals are currently untested with Lili, however we believe that with her lower energy and chill personality it will most likely be fine! She is a bit shy when it comes to humans, needing a slower introduction however she does fine once the introduction is made. Whilst she has not been tested with children, we believe that slower introductions will be key for her, as well as probably a household with kids older than 12 as she is shy and needs a calmer environment. Lili does not have a prey drive, however she does like to bark at animals and people passing by the front window. Lili is the perfect little princess, nondestructive and good with car rides. Due to her being so good in the house, her foster has not felt the need to kennel train her. Lili is still learning when it comes to her sense of fun and play, and is slowly getting interested in toys. We believe she would be the perfect fit in a calmer home, maybe with an older couple who have the chance to cuddle all day long. Lili is looking for her forever home that she can love and cuddle with, and is the perfect definition of a lappdog. Lili has a heart murmur and takes daily medication for this. As a senior dog, her health will need to be monitored at her annual vaccine appointments. If you think your home would be a good match for Lili, please complete an adoption application on our website and one of our team members will be in touch with you shortly via email to arrange a phone interview.

Story
Location: Didsbury, AB. Energy level: low. Meet Toto, a sweet and shy boy with a heart full of love to give. Toto may take some time to adjust to a new home, but once he trusts you, his affection is endless. His journey has been a little rocky, and he’s still learning to feel safe in the world around him. Toto’s kennel is his safe haven, and while he loves to cuddle up on the bed with his human, he feels most secure sleeping in his kennel at night. Toto is a very quiet boy and hasn’t barked a single time—he’s peaceful and gentle, never a troublemaker. However, he’s quite nervous about being picked up or handled, and leashed walks are too overwhelming for him at the moment. He’ll need a patient adopter who understands that he might need time to build confidence and feel comfortable in new situations. Toto gets along well with other dogs and would be fine around dog-savvy cats, though he appreciates his space, especially when he’s sleeping in his kennel. He’s a bit of a homebody and has enjoyed camping trips with his foster family, though he’d rather stay in a quiet, loving home where he can feel safe and secure. This sweet boy eats a special dehydrated dog food that’s easy on his sensitive teeth, as many of his teeth were removed. Despite his ruff start, Toto has never held a grudge—he’s all about the love and enjoys getting spoiled. One of the cutest things about Toto is his pre- and post-meal “dance”! He’s so excited for food time that he can’t help but do a little happy wiggle and shuffle before and after each meal. It’s a small, adorable quirk that’s guaranteed to make you smile! Toto is looking for an adopter who will be patient and understanding, someone who can give him the time and care he needs to blossom into the affectionate companion he’s meant to be. If you’re ready to offer Toto a quiet, loving home where he can feel safe, secure, and showered with affection, he just might be the perfect fit for you! Toto would do best in a home with another pet and no children due to his nervous nature. A quiet, stable home with a predictable routine would be a dream for this boy. If you think your home would be a good match for Toto, please complete an adoption application on our website and one of our team members will be in touch with you shortly via email to arrange a phone interview.

Story
Location: Medicine hat, AB Weight: 9lbs Age: 2 years Sex: Spayed Female Energy level: Medium Chica is a delightful pup with a heart full of love and a personality that will capture your heart. At a medium energy level, she enjoys her bursts of playtime throughout the day, typically lasting 15-20 minutes, followed by cozy naps to recharge. When the weather is nice, Chica is always up for a refreshing 40-minute walk, walking beautifully on her leash and harness. While Chica is friendly with other dogs and even cats, she appreciates her space when it comes to new people. She is currently building her social skills, and with some patience, she'll blossom in her interactions! Chica is crate-trained and settles in nicely at night, sleeping soundly until around 7 a.m. However, due to her sensitive nature, she does require a little extra supervision when she's inside the house to prevent her from chewing on things she shouldn't. This sweet girl is completely house-trained but prefers to do her business when the weather is warm—so during snowy or cold days, she’ll need a little extra encouragement to go outside. Chica thrives on companionship and does not do well when left alone for long periods. She can be a bit of a stinker when it comes to food, with a tendency to swipe snacks when you least expect it! Patience and consistent training will help her learn about personal space and how to behave around new faces. A true cuddle bug at heart, Chica loves snuggling up with her favorite toys, including her beloved stuffed squeaky lamb chop and her Kong filled with peanut butter. She also enjoys the lick mat, which helps keep her calm during anxious moments. With the right adopter who can offer love, understanding, and a bit of time, Chica will make a loyal companion and bring endless joy into your life. If you're looking for a furry friend to share your days with, Chica is ready to fill your heart and home with love! Are you ready to welcome Chica into your family? Click "apply to adopt" to complete an application and one of our team leads will be in touch via email to arrange a phone within a few business days.

Story
Location: Didsbury, AB Age: Approx 2.5 years old Size: XSmall Energy level: Medium Meet Phoebe, a pint-sized powerhouse of personality! This adorable Chihuahua is the perfect blend of sweet and sassy – a tiny package overflowing with love. At a couple of years old, Phoebe still retains a wonderfully playful, puppy-like energy. She's got a zest for life that shines through in her enthusiastic playtime with toys (she absolutely loves toys!), and her happy disposition with other dogs (though she might give chase to any feline friends). While Phoebe initially greets new people with a little bark, don't let that fool you! With a little patience and time, her initial shyness melts away, revealing the affectionate cuddle bug underneath. She's almost perfectly house-trained (the occasional accident is easily managed with regular potty breaks), and her snuggles are legendary. She'd especially love a home with another small dog to play with, keeping her tiny spirit happy and engaged. Phoebe is a true sweetheart who thrives on companionship and would prefer a home where she won't be left alone for extended periods. She's a devoted bed-sharer and enjoys the comfort of her human's presence. Being a protective little lady (typical Chihuahua!), older children would be the best fit for this sweet girl. While she's still working on crate training, her foster family is making progress. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who will fill your life with joy and tiny-dog charm, Phoebe might just be the perfect pup for you. Could you offer this little spice-and-sugar sweetheart her forever home? To learn more about Phoebe, please complete an application on our website. www.ruffstartanimalrescue.com
