Aston is being fostered in Maryville, IL. You must live within 350 miles & able to drive for a meet & greet/adoption. We got a call from a shelter who had received this sweet little guy. He was surrendered after being bounced from two different families who were unable to provide a stable home for him. He is now UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and on heartworm/flea preventative. He is as healthy as a puppy should be & ready to find his furever family. Aston is doing well on leash training but he does love to run in the secure physical fenced yard with his other foster friends. If you have a fence, it needs to be completely secure & enclosed, no gaps. If you do not have a fence, he will need play time at the dog park or several walks a day. NEVER EVER should he be outside off his harness and leash when not in the fenced area, NEVER. Aston has had tons of fun in his foster home. He plays with the resident dogs, his best friend being a tiny Cavapoo! It was clear to us that Aston had not had much opportunity to explore & socialize with other animals before coming to us. We have been able to provide ample opportunity for that while in foster care. It is vitally important for puppies to have this experience when they are young, as it sets the stage for their ability to properly respond and interact as they grow older. His foster mom has been taking him to work with her everyday. She says he is just the best and lays on his blanket and sleeps while she works. We are working on potty training. We have been amazed at how quickly Aston caught on to routine & he has not had any accidents since moving into his foster home. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. Please be prepared to set him up for success by getting a schedule in place. Always praise your puppy when they meet your expectations. Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility that requires oodles of time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt a sweet energetic puppy. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.

Porsche/ Cocker Spaniel DOB 03/21/24 (5mo) Approx 13lbs Spayed/Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Current on flea & heartworm prevention Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Only complete & qualified applications will be considered/contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications & FAQ about our adoption process can be found on our website. Porsche was released to our rescue so we could keep an eye on her heart. When she was small, a murmur was detected. Innocent puppy murmurs can happen, some breeds are more prone than others. As she grew older, that murmur dissipated & it can no longer be heard. At her last vet visit she was declared fit & healthy. Porsche takes initiative & will learn her way around her surroundings with confidence. Unlike many dogs in our care, Porsche will likely do very well in an active home. She has the energy & enjoys physical activities. She loves to keep track of her foster family members & is dedicated to spending time with them. She does well on a leash & harness. She isn't perfect, but with some work & training she will improve. She is doing well with housetraining, and she will need consistency & praise to continue this success. We won't require a fence, but the family needs to be dedicated to taking her out safely & attended at ALL TIMES. Never EVER should she be left in the yard alone. At night she enjoys snuggling into the big bed with her foster family. She would do well during the day if she was left in a dog-proof area of the home. If you are the right family to bring Porsche home, please email & submit your application!

Story
Cooper is a Cocker spaniel mix who is roughly 8 years old and has been with his current owner for 6 years. Unfortunately, Cooper's first owner abused and mistreated him. Due to this abuse and lack of proper socialization as a puppy, Cooper does not do well with children or other animals A trainer who specializes in these behaviors advised that it likely stems from the abuse he experienced in his first home. As our blended family grows, Cooper shows increased discomfort. Though we do not want to part with him, Cooper needs to be in a home where he feels safe and comfortable. Despite everything, Cooper is sweet and playful in his own quirky way. He has so much love to give, and we want him in a home where he can thrive. We do ask for a meet and greet to be sure everyone meshes well. We will also show you various training techniques given to us by the trainer to assist in helping Cooper settle into his new home. If adopted, Cooper will be sent with his personal items.

Maizie Cavalier King Charles Spaniel DOB 04/05/17 16lbs Spayed / Microchipped UTD on vaccinations & Heartworm Preventative Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you meet the requirements, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications, as well as FAQ regarding adoption, can be found on our website. Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be reviewed and/or contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. Maizie came from a past life of breeding. Thankfully, she is a love bug and is not timid like most are. At Maizie's vet intake appointment, the vet heard a heart. Because of this, we got her seen with the cardiology team at U of I. She was diagnosed with Myxomatous Mitral Valve Degeneration (MMVD) aka Leaky valve, which is common for the cavalier breed. With this condition, Maizie should be evaluated regularly for progression in heart disease by a cardiologist yearly for an echocardiogram and blood pressure and will eventually be put on medication. Your local vet is not the same as a cardiologist and they can not perform these tests so ensure you have or can drive to your nearest cardiologist before applying. Maizie is not very good on a leash yet. She might be receptive to it at a later date, once her family has developed a relationship with her. Knowing that she won't leash walk right now, we must insist on a physically secure fence for her, as she will need to immediately continue her outside potty routine. The only way to be successful with this is to have a secure contained area. Maizie is doing very good with her potty-training routine. Her foster mom has been very proud of her progress & says she is almost there! It is important to note that anytime there is a change in environment or schedule, you must give the dog a chance to be successful. A new routine that employs consistency & praise will help set them up for success. Maizie is a loyal friend. She quickly took up with her foster mom & is comfortable being around her during normal household activities. She is doing well with quiet well-behaved children, adults, men, women, & all her foster canine siblings. She is very much enjoying making friends. Please let us know if you have the perfect home to offer Maizie by sending us an email. Gateway4paws@gmail.com

Lizzie / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 7yo/ dob 04.06.17 13lbs Spayed / Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Heartworm / Flea Preventative Heart Murmur/ DCM Adoption Donation $450 (tax deductible) Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you meet the requirements, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications can be found here on our website. Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be reviewed and/or contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. Mileage requirements may be lifted for Cavalier or DCM experienced homes. Lizzie came from a past life of breeding. Thankfully, she is a love bug and is not timid like most are. At Lizzie's vet intake appointment, the vet heard a heart murmur. Because of this, we got her seen with the cardiology team at U of I. She was diagnosed with Nutritional Secondary Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). DCM is not common for the cavalier breed. Her valves look good & there is trivial evidence of tricuspid regurgitation. The concern is with some enlargement, we have started her on a high-quality diet that could slow/reverse this condition. Lizzie will need to be seen by a licensed cardiologist in November for a recheck echocardiogram and follow the cardologist recommendation going forward for rechecks. She has also started Pimobendan which she may or may not need to remain on this medication long term. Your local vet is not the same as a cardiologist and they cannot perform these tests. If you don't already have a cardiologist, do the research to see where the closest one is to you and ensure you can make the drive should they be far away. You will be required to provide us the name of the cardiologist you would use when you apply. When Lizzy came into rescue, she needed a dental. She only had 13 teeth that needed to be cleaned but unfortunately, they were bad and all had to be pulled. Good news, Lizzy is in no more mouth pain and you will not need to pay for any more dentals. Lizzie is okay with a leash. She does better at her potty duties if she has a secure area to go in. For this reason, we would discuss a small designated physically secure area, as Lizzie isn't really fond of playing outside. She doesn't need a fenced yard, but she does need some security. Remember how little she is, and NEVER should she be left alone outside. Lizzie is a stage 5 clinger, she will glue herself to you, or any human, who will pick her up. Her number one goal all day long is to be touching a human. Being held by a human, laying next to a human, sitting with a human, staring at a human.....lol. You get the idea. Lizzie is an excellent car rider. She is just happy to be part of the festivities. Lizzie is just so thankful to have a chance at her own family. She is an absolute gem that doesn't get into any trouble, loves everyone she meets, and just wants love! Please let us know if you have the perfect home to offer Lizzie by sending us an email. Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be reviewed and/or contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. Mileage requirements may be lifted for Cavalier experienced homes. Millicent came into our rescue back in February. She settled into her foster home & everything was going well, mostly. Her foster mom was trying hard to help Millicent stick to her diet plan, but it just wasn't going the way it should. Then we got word that maybe there was a reason she wasn't losing weight. We took her in for an x-ray. Sure enough, she smuggled in a belly full of puppies! Off to the maternity ward she went. A nice clean area was set up for her, she settled in, and that diet was put aside! The puppies are now 12 weeks old, fully weaned & Millicent has been a mom for the very last time. Millicent is ready to find her own family now. We are looking for a home that will give her a chance to start learning what it means to be a family member & be a part of daily activities. Millicent very much wants to socialize & have fun. She doesn't know exactly how to do this, but she is being very brave & learning quickly. Millicent is not very good on a leash yet. She might be receptive to it at a later date, once her family has developed a relationship with her. Knowing that she won't leash walk right now, we must insist on a physically secure fence for her, as she will need to immediately continue her outside potty routine. The only way to be successful with this is to have a secure contained area. Speaking of a physically fenced yard. Millicent is part monkey. Yup, she can & will, climb fences. A chain link fence is simply a jungle gym waiting to be played on. Of course, Millicent should never be left unattended in the yard, anyway. She doesn't do it to escape, she just enjoys the challenge. And we think she likes to show off. Millicent is doing very well with her potty-training routine as long as she is taken out on a regular basis. It is important to note that anytime there is a change in environment or schedule, you must give the dog a chance to be successful. A new routine that employs consistency & praise will help set them up for success. She quickly took up with her foster mom & is comfortable being around her during normal household activities. She is doing well with quiet well-behaved children, adults, men, women, & all her foster canine siblings. She is very much enjoying making friends. Please let us know if you are ready for an adventurous sidekick, who also really enjoys naps! You can send us an email at Gateway4paws@gmail.com
