Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Pike Creek, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Charlie and Ruby, the dynamic senior Dachshund duo ready to snuggle their way into your hearts! At 13 years old 12 pounds, and 11 years old 10 pounds, Charlie and Ruby came to us after their owner passed away and extended family could no longer care for them. This bonded friendly old guy and gentle old gal want nothing more than to snuggle with their humans and enjoy nice, long rolls in the grass. After receiving very little vetting most of their lives, they came through their initial foster care with flying colors: Ruby had a large hernia removed and five teeth extracted during her dental; Charlie had a small mass removed from his chin, a whopping nine teeth extracted, and was found to have a heart murmur that requires daily medication. For about $65 a month, this critical prescription will keep him ticking, while a mere $5 monthly will help Ruby keep her arthritis symptoms at bay. These two are otherwise in great shape for seniors, with good vision and the ability to hear a snack bag open in the kitchen from the other side of the house, though Charlie may take Ruby’s lead with just a tad of hearing loss himself. As with many aging dachshunds, these two have sensitive backs and will need help with stairs and getting on the couch to cuddle. They have learned to skillfully use a ramp in their foster home, and would like to maintain their independence this way. An adult home or one where older kids understand this need is preferred. Charlie and Ruby did spend part of their lives confined to a small space, so now that they have had a taste of bigger places, they will be most happy in a home with a yard to stretch their little legs as they much prefer sniffs in the grass to long walks. They will show their thanks by hopping around like bunnies when they get to spend time outside. They also want to know their humans are around, so someone who is home more often than not would be great. The companionship of other small dogs would also be okay with them. As Charlie and Ruby have adjusted to their new environment, they have become almost fully potty trained, though they appreciate a wee pad on standby for those just-in-case occasions. Once they understand their new routine with you, they will settle in nicely. In short – just like Charlie and Ruby themselves – this doxie duo is ready for their final chapter with their furever humans. They are super sweet seniors that just want love and snuggles and treats. Apply today to bring home this sweet pair for double the snuggles and double the joy!

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Middletown, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Olympus! This 17 lb, 14 year old Dachshund Mix was surrendered to our rescue by his family when they no longer had the means to care for him. Despite this sad change in circumstances, he has shown himself to be a well-behaved, easy-going dog who wants nothing more than to snuggle up by your side! Olympus is a healthy pup. While in foster care, he has had a dental, became up to date on shots and is microchipped. He requires some daily eye drops, which he accepts with ease. Olympus loves to eat and gets very excited when you ask him if he’s hungry! He has been thriving on a sensitive skin and stomach salmon and rice diet. Olympus is housebroken, walks well on a leash and is very quiet. He has lived with both dogs and kids, and has been great with all! His likes include being around his people and sleeping in the bed with you! His dislikes are running out of snacks, too many stairs for his little legs and not being allowed on the couch! He also gets a little bit nervous on car rides. Olympus was incredibly bonded to his teenage human sibling and quickly became attached to the teenager in his foster home. We’d love to see him in a home with a human sibling of his own! Olympus is a total doll and his forever family will be very lucky to get such a wonderful companion! Apply today for our perfect little gentleman!

Story
Hi, This is Georgia. She is 4 years old and a mix of breeds (lab, dachshund, terrier, staffordshire, and shar pei). Her birthday is 10/25/2019. She weighs about 30 lbs and is a medium size dog. Georgia is crate trained, goes to the door when she needs to go out. She loves belly rubs, peanut butter in a kong, going for walks and her favorite are car rides. She has been left out of her crate when someone has left the house to go out to eat as long as she is let out before leaving. If she ever happens to run out of the yard just grab a leash, get in the car and when you see her open the door and ask her if she wants to go for a ride and she will hop in. Georgia knows: laydown, roll over, paw, share with her toys, leave it and she will sit before you tell her to eat. She also loves to catch treats and is great at catching flies and eating them so no need to have a fly swatter handy! Georgia is a ball of energy so she needs a home with a fenced in yard. She also needs good long walks and time to play fetch and keep away with her toys while being chased. We have also taught her to “share” so we can take the toy from her. Without giving her ample exercise and enough sniffing on walks to wear her out then this will lead to boredom for her and might result in her looking for things to chew and eat around the house. Overall Georgia is a sweet cute good dog that listens to commands, loves to cuddle, will make you laugh and makes a great watch dog. She has her license and rabies shot but she needs a bordetella shot. She has had 2 teeth removed due to her hard chewing on things so be aware of this when giving her hard bones. There are times when she is ok with them. She doesn't like to go in the water. She has also been around other dogs and cats and is good around kids. Email puppiesandmore@yahoo.com for contact on Georgia. We just want to find a good home for her
