Meet Charlie and Ruby, the dynamic senior Dachshund duo ready to snuggle their way into your hearts!
At 13 years old 12 pounds, and 11 years old 10 pounds, Charlie and Ruby came to us after their owner passed away and extended family could no longer care for them. This bonded friendly old guy and gentle old gal want nothing more than to snuggle with their humans and enjoy nice, long rolls in the grass.
After receiving very little vetting most of their lives, they came through their initial foster care with flying colors: Ruby had a large hernia removed and five teeth extracted during her dental; Charlie had a small mass removed from his chin, a whopping nine teeth extracted, and was found to have a heart murmur that requires daily medication. For about $65 a month, this critical prescription will keep him ticking, while a mere $5 monthly will help Ruby keep her arthritis symptoms at bay.
These two are otherwise in great shape for seniors, with good vision and the ability to hear a snack bag open in the kitchen from the other side of the house, though Charlie may take Ruby’s lead with just a tad of hearing loss himself. As with many aging dachshunds, these two have sensitive backs and will need help with stairs and getting on the couch to cuddle. They have learned to skillfully use a ramp in their foster home, and would like to maintain their independence this way. An adult home or one where older kids understand this need is preferred.
Charlie and Ruby did spend part of their lives confined to a small space, so now that they have had a taste of bigger places, they will be most happy in a home with a yard to stretch their little legs as they much prefer sniffs in the grass to long walks. They will show their thanks by hopping around like bunnies when they get to spend time outside. They also want to know their humans are around, so someone who is home more often than not would be great. The companionship of other small dogs would also be okay with them.
As Charlie and Ruby have adjusted to their new environment, they have become almost fully potty trained, though they appreciate a wee pad on standby for those just-in-case occasions. Once they understand their new routine with you, they will settle in nicely.
In short – just like Charlie and Ruby themselves – this doxie duo is ready for their final chapter with their furever humans. They are super sweet seniors that just want love and snuggles and treats. Apply today to bring home this sweet pair for double the snuggles and double the joy!
