Meet Copper – Your New Best Friend Awaits!Dear Potential Adopter,I am writing to introduce you to Copper, a delightful 7-year-old dachshund and Jack Russell mix who is in search of his forever home. Copper is a charming and unique companion with a personality that will undoubtedly warm your heart.Copper has had one loving owner and has lived harmoniously with another dog throughout his life. Though he has not been around cats, his easygoing nature with other dogs suggests he could adapt well to a new canine sibling. However, Copper has a particular need: he must go to a child-free home. He is quite afraid of children, so a calm, adult-only environment would be ideal for him.Despite his initial shyness, Copper’s affectionate side shines through once he feels safe. He adores snuggling under blankets and would love nothing more than to curl up on a comfy chair or nap in your lap. Copper is kennel trained and has a lot of energy; he enjoys running and playing in the yard, but a word of caution: make sure the gate is always secure, as he loves to dash off on adventures. One of Copper’s favorite pastimes is playing with tennis balls, and his playful spirit is matched by his love for relaxation. He’s a bundle of energy and joy, balanced by his quiet, cuddly moments. Copper is neutered, which makes him ready to transition seamlessly into your home.If you are looking for a loyal, energetic, and loving companion who will cherish cozy times as much as outdoor play, Copper could be the perfect fit for you. He is waiting for a special place where he can be himself and thrive in a safe, adult environment. Please consider giving Copper the chance to be part of your family. He is eager to share his love and companionship with someone who can provide the stable and nurturing home he deserves.Thank you for considering this wonderful dog. If you have any questions or would like to meet Copper, please don’t hesitate to reach out.Available dogs are met by appointment only and pre-approved adopters ONLY.Our dogs are currently in a foster homes which can answer your questions better than anyone else. We promise our fosters that we will qualify all potential adopters before we ask them to communicate with potential adopters. The application is the first step. Story
(Russell Rescue program name Sargent/Sarge)Meet your new best friend, Sgt. Peanut Butter aka Butters! This dachshund/terrier mix is about 16 lbs and approximately 2-3 years old. He loves burrowing down in blankets, snuggling with you, running laps in the yard/playing chase with the other dogs, and having a nice treat, chew or bone. He has some scarring on his head/back from a burn incident in his previous life, but it doesn’t seem to bother him at all. He seems to be a natural protector for those he loves, and is wary of men in particular but warms up in time. Great with kids, good with other dogs in general but will stand his ground if challenged by them. Probably not good with cats. He seems eager to please and is easy to love.Let’s find him his forever home!Sargent, aka Sgt Peanut Butter, would love to cuddle with you under a blanket on cold snow days like today. He does have some energy and loves to play, run outside, and chew on his toys, but when play time is over he’s ready to burrow under a blanket. He’s good with kids and other dogs; no experience with cats. In general, he seems to take more time to warm up to men, but he does get there. He just needs to build a little trust, and once you’re “in” he is protective of his people. All the movie stars are tall, dark and handsome. Sargent is no exception. He will be the new star i. Your life. He already is the star of his play group. Just the right size to go first class on his private plane, and only needs you as chauffeur to premier  night of his latest movie. let us know when you are ready to sign the doted line! Available dogs are met by appointment only and pre-approved adopters ONLY.Our dogs are currently in a foster homes which can answer your questions better than anyone else. We promise our fosters that we will qualify all potential adopters before we ask them to communicate with potential adopters. The application is the first step. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Say hello to Oskar, a sweet, affectionate pup looking for his forever home . He’s 13 but don’t let his age fool you, he is always ready for an adventure, no matter what the weather is. But he is also perfectly content curling up on the couch next to his human. He gets along with humans (even babies) and other dogs, has not been tested around cats but would likely do fine, he prefers pups of his size to play with. He is house-trained and also crate-trained and can be trusted left out roaming around when no one is home. He has leash reactivity especially when he sees other dogs on walks. On a very rare occasion he will bark to alert you someone is at the door, but most of the times he will let his foster brothers do the work. He is a gentle and loving soul and would make him a perfect fit for almost any family. Medical Notes: Neutered Vaccinated Microchipped Heartworm Negative ProHeart 12 Injection Teeth Cleaned & benign growth removed on 1/21/25 Has a Grade 3 out of 6 heart murmur - maintained on a heart medication called Enalapril twice a day (cost on Chewy around $6 for one month) Has Pinpoint Cataracts in both eyes, however gets around very well  Our doctor recommends his heart be rechecked every 6 months Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 13, 2025, 1:05 pm

After only one week, Bandit has become part of the pack. He loves playing with toys and his brother (check out his video). It took him only a week to adjust and he is getting even more comfy each day. He cuddles and loves to get kisses. Bandit did sleep in the crate the first few nights here but started crying around 5:30 am. He currently sleeps in the bed with us and does great. He sleeps in late and barely moves around except to give more cuddles and kisses. Leash training is still a task, and some days are better than others. Bandit continues to do well in foster care. He loves to play and chase his foster brother, so a playmate is a must! He does love to bark, like many dachshunds do. He still gets nervous if you reach down when standing up, but he is doing so much better every day. Take a chance with this cutie, and you won't be sorry! Our must-haves for adorable Bandit include: A fenced yard Another young, small dog that is well socialized so he can learn from them Someone with patience or breeder dog experience who understands it is going to take time A single-family home only Someone who could be home more than not If you meet all these requirements and want to adopt, please go to our website and apply online. Bandit is a handsome guy, so don’t wait!    ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. He cries when he misplaces his favorite toy and when he can’t see his foster people. He is working hard on potty training but isn’t reliable yet. His tiny legs, soulful eyes and happy wagging bottom may make him seem innocent, but don’t be fooled - he’s a whirlwind of excitement and playfulness and needs someone who can keep up with and appreciate his antics. He loves his toys, but doesn’t love sharing. He decides when you can play with him and will toss a ball at you when he’s ready to play with you, otherwise he’s content playing by himself. Tobi is still learning boundaries, often testing his limits in his foster home, especially when no one is looking. He’ll chew on anything he can get his mouth on, and if he can’t reach it, he’s got a vertical jump that rivals an NBA player. When it’s quiet, he’s up to something! Despite being the master of mayhem, Tobi has a heart full of love. He loves snuggling up for a nap after playtime, and his tail rarely stops wagging when he’s with his foster family. He sleeps through the night in the big bed, but when he’s ready to get up, you better be, too. He tolerates one snooze on the alarm clock and after that, it’s go time! In the house, he is reactive to new people by showing off his meanest bark. Like many toddlers, though, he quickly warms up after proper introductions. On the other hand, his reactivity to cars, dogs, and people (even in their own yards) when outside includes lunging, pulling hard on the leash and his “big dog” bark. This is a work in progress and will take time, practice, and patience. He’s a very smart little guy and is food motivated, which is helpful during training sessions. He’s also eager to please. Tobi is a lively, loveable little companion who will bring endless joy and laughter into the right home! BIO:  Tobi came from Maryland when his owner had to work too many hours to give him the time he needed and deserved.  They contacted AADR to help find him a new home.  Tobi loves toys to the point that he will protect them, so if you have another dog, there could be a scuffle over the toys.  Tobi, however, is also good as an only dog if you work from home or are a stay-at-home person.  It’s important that you can keep up with his energy level.  Tobi loves zoomies and playing catch when you throw the ball - just don’t expect him to bring it back, you must work for it!  He is young so keep in mind you have to be young enough to keep him happy.  Could that be you?  Maybe you need a jogging buddy? He also loves the snow and cold and he really likes it if you'll stay outside with him and throw snowballs.  He'll settle down inside after he's had some energy run off.  Keep in mind that Tobi is reactive to other dogs on walks and people, so you have to keep a strong hold on his leash.  You'll have to work with him on this.  He does not like men in hats and will react to new people coming into the home but will warm after a few minutes. Keep in mind because he does protect his toys if you do have another dog, they can have no toys that way there will be no fights over toys, and they'll play with each other. Tobi does have some separation anxiety, which is why he may do better with a younger small FEMALE dog to play with and keep him company if you do have to go out. But the foster mom crates him so he doesn't get into mischief while she is out for short periods of time. Our must-haves for adorable Tobi include: A fenced yard Someone who is home more often than not A submissive young small female dog to play with and pal around with No apartments, condos, townhomes, or high-rises; shared walls would not be good If you meet all these requirements, please fill out our online adoption application.  ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. I wanted to give you a little update on how I am doing. I am getting to play every day with my Foster Sister and having so much fun! Every now and then she lets me know that she doesn't want to play, and I back off. When we take a break from playing, I get to snuggle with my Foster Siblings under a blanket and I just love it. I don't stay long because something always distracts me and I just have to check it out. As my Foster Mom says, I am nosy, or you could say a lot curious. I like it here but would really like to find my furever home. I want someone who will love me forever because I will love them forever! I really like to play, so I need a brother or sister who will play with me. And look at me... why wouldn't you want someone this handsome?! If you think we could spend the rest of our lives together, please complete an application. I am waiting on you! BIO:  Ace was returned by his original home to the breeder because he snapped at a small child. The breeder then asked AADR to help find Ace his perfect forever home. He loves to play, so he would need a home with another dog his size who also loves to play. He will sit in your lap until something else gets his attention. He loves being under a blanket with his foster siblings, so I’m sure he would like to snuggle with a new brother or sister. Mr. Ace is a very nosy boy, so he is constantly checking things out. He does not like loud noises such as a vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, paper shredder, etc. He will bark at them until he has barked them into submission, and they go silent. He is working on house training and now goes out the doggie door by himself but still has accidents. If you are an active adult with children over 10 and looking for an active and lovable dog, Ace may be the guy for you. Our must-haves for adorable Ace include: A fenced yard Another small to medium young dog for him to play with Someone who is home more often than not No condos, high-rises, or apartments due to possible barking If you want to know more about Ace, complete our online adoption application, and we’ll be happy to talk to you about this sweet boy.  ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Willard is looking for his ‘Furever Home.’ He was picked up as a stray and no one came looking for him so AADR stepped in to help. We are so glad we did because Willard loves being with people and is such a good boy.  Willard loves to be loved on and he loves to give kisses. He plays with toys and will go get them. Willard loves to run with the other dachshunds around the yard, investigating all the smells that the yard has to offer. He likes to ride in the car and does well in his crate. He is so smart; he quickly learned the doggie door. When you get his harness, he will sit quietly for you to put it on him. He loves long walks and has even met the neighbor’s big dogs and has no problems walking with them. Keep in mind that he will be reactive to strange dogs and people on walks so you must keep a strong hold on his leash. This is something you will have to work with him on. When new people come into the house, he reacts but warms up quickly. That being said, he is a good pup and even gets along with the cats in the house. Our must-haves for sweet Willard include: A fenced yard A doggie door would be a plus Another small dog for him to buddy with; he can also be an only dog No apartments, condos, or high-rises If you are looking for your next best doggie friend, look no farther than Willard!! ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your 'new friend' get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. It is very important that he goes to a home with another well-socialized small dog that he can learn from what it’s about to be a pet and not to be afraid of new things. If you are truly looking to “rescue” a pet, Cody is your guy. He will need patience, love, and an understanding that this will not happen overnight. It would be really great if someone with breeder dog experience would come forward to adopt him. Yes, it’ll take work and time, but the rewards are great when you see the first time he wags his tail at you, or comes running when you get home, or better yet, when he climbs in your lap. He is the true rescue story. So if you have what it takes, please apply, but if you just are not sure you want to take on a project like Cody, please pass on him. BUT if you do, you won’t regret your decision and will make his days so much brighter. Our must-haves for precious Cody include: Must have another young, small, well-socialized dog for him to play with and learn from or can be an only dog if adopter has “breeder dog” experience A fenced yard Someone who is home more often than not Someone willing to put in the work to make him the pet he wants to be No apartments, high-rises, or condos ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime.
