Story
We are moving overseas for a temporary job and looking to rehome our beloved pup Archie until we return in January 2026. We adopted Archie in 2014 and he's now the most puppy-faced 10-year-old boy you've ever seen (seriously, we still get stopped on the street constantly asking if he's a puppy!). He has been a loyal companion, witnessing our family grow as we married and welcomed two human babies, now ages 6 and 2. Archie is a top-notch snuggler, full of energy on walks, and incredibly patient with little ones. Until very recently he would run his little heart out at the dog park, consistently faster than dogs half his age. Having spent the first year of his life in shelters, however, he does come with some baggage and still experiences separation anxiety. Archie would do best in a home with at least one person home the majority of the time and/or with another dog to keep him company. He is house-trained, but resists the crate. Please consider taking in our special guy!

Story
Tina is a 2-year-old black and tan female Doberman. Her tail is docked and her ears are cropped, however they don’t stand up. Tina is a happy, playful, and energetic girl who is crate and house-trained. She sleeps in a crate at night without issues. She tends to bark when in the crate during the day, so we have started giving her run of the house during the day while we are not home. We have cameras to keep an eye on her and so far she has been a very good girl and usually just sleeps on one of her dog beds. Tina rides well in the car and will either lay down or look out the windows. Tina is looking for an active home with people who are committed to doing training, activities, and brain games with her daily. She can be shy when meeting new people, but for folks who are patient, she quickly warms into a velcro Doberman who will follow you all over the house. Tina LOVES to play fetch! Balls are life! She is very good at bringing the ball back so that you can throw it again. Check out a video of Tina playing fetch: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/igugggsXojs Tina also likes to chase anything that moves - squirrels, rabbits, birds, bicyclists, and runners. Because of this, Tina will not be placed in a home with cats, small mammals, or birds. Tina is smart and treat-motivated. She would do well with someone willing to train her and help her work through some of her fears, but that will take time. Tina would do best in a suburban or rural home with less pedestrian and canine traffic. She takes some time to warm up to other dogs. Tina gets very excited when she sees other dogs while she is on a leash. For now, Tina needs a fenced yard so that you can keep neighborhood walks to a minimum, and during quiet times only. She could be a single dog or go to a home with a calm, but playful pup partner, but would need a slow introduction to any other dogs in the home. Tina had happily coexisted with a 50-pound senior female dog in a previous foster home. Tina is currently being fostered in Virginia. Story
Dakota is a very affectionate, gentle, 97 pound, 7-8 year old female Black/tan Doberman with a calm and friendly personality. She is a bit overweight and on a journey to a healthier leaner body. Dakota is a special needs dogs; she had a cancerous mass which was removed. There are currently no signs of cancer but she should be monitored to see if it returns. Dakota greets everyone she meets with a wagging tail and gentle kisses. Dakota is calm and well-mannered. She is content to take naps and relax. If she is left alone she does will whine and pace. She is not destructive but will chew a blanket. Her first day of unrestricted activity was December 9th (post-surgery) so she is just now beginning to take longer walks in the backyard and play with some of her outside toys. She sleeps through the night on her dog bed. Dakota will do best in a new home where someone is home with her. She does well when riding in car. Dakota did spend the Thanksgiving Holiday with another Doberman, Dolly, a 2 year old female. While Dakota’s activity was still restricted at the time she got along well with Dolly. She would be a good companion for an older or more relaxed playmate rather than rough-housing with a young puppy. Dakota is fostered in MD. If you are interested in meeting Dakota, please contact her foster parent. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Story
Ember is a 6 year old female with natural ears and a cropped tail. She is super friendly and tender loving. Upon first meeting, I felt that Ember had been well loved and well cared for. While we don't know her past history it's clear she loves affection and being part of the family. Her tail is cropped a little bit longer which is nice because it shows her emotion, energy, and eagerness. Parts of her, including her neck and chest, are super soft. Ember is very well adjusted to the home life. She gazes out the front window without pouncing or jumping. She waits patiently for her bowl of food. She doesn't counter surf or beg for food at the table. If she does quickly jump on the bed or sofa a simple "off" or "let's go" is all she needs to reset. At nighttime she sleeps on a dog bed on the bedroom floor. During her first few weeks in foster care sometimes she would pace or give a low-level whine. Engaging her with conversation or a toy or giving her a variety of soft blankets or dog beds and encouraging her to lay down was a big help. After working with her it's obvious she's had prior training. Ember will do best with an adopter that when asking her to sit, stay, or lay down can help her work on increasingly longer durations. She's a smart girl and earlier this week she learned "shake". Ember currently lives with a resident dog who lives in a different part of the house. So far we’ve kept interactions limited because while Ember seems super interested she is also very energized. While we have not yet seen any direct interactions with children it's expected that she'd do well with older children. Ember recently had a dental procedure and will need an adopter willing to keep up with her annual dental checkups. She's good in the crate, good in the car, and ok being left in a bedroom or den with the door closed for several minutes. Ember is comfortable being in the backyard and will give a bark when she's ready to come back in. She walks well on the leash and is an all-weather dog that likes walking in the rain and also in the snow. Some of Ember's favorite activities are looking out and watching the world around her, carrying around a toy, or destuffing a plush toy. Ember is in foster care in Maryland and is eager to meet you!
