Story
Rooster is available for in-state adoption or adoption and transport to another state. This handsome boy was found as a stray running out in the country. He is approximately 7 months old and weighs 45 pounds. He will probably weigh in the 60-pound range when fully grown. We are not sure of his breed mixture but think he may have some lab and Doberman in him. Rooster has a great personality and disposition. He loves all of the other rescue dogs, big and small. He loves people and will lie at your feet whenever he can. He loves water and the garden fountain is his favorite spot to hang out and keep cool. Rooster is a very sweet and goofy puppy. He is pretty much house-trained and runs to go outside with his buddies. He will need some leash training and would probably do better with a harness. We have no idea of how he is with cats. Rooster loves to run and play with his dog friends and toys. He may not be suitable for a home with small children because he may knock them over when running and playing. Rooster needs a fully fenced-in and secure yard. He will be a great dog for hiking or going to the dog park. He is an active boy and will run around the yard with a toy in his mouth playing tag with his buddies. He likes to be the leader and have everyone chase him. Rooster would do well either as an only dog or with other dogs. Rooster is neutered, fully vaccinated, (DAPP, Bordatella, rabies, canine influenza), and microchipped. He is receiving monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Roosters' out-of-state adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport by a reputable and trusted transport company, and he can be transported almost anywhere within the continental United States. Rooster is with our friends at Shaggy Dog Rescue and cannot be transported until after he is adopted. Please email kathy@houstonshaggydogrescue.org if you are interested in adopting this good boy. Story
Meet Ringo! Breed: Doberman Pinscher Age: 15-18 months old Weight: 63 pounds Coat: Red & Rust, short-hair - Neutered - Microchipped - Tested negative for heartworms - Up-to-date on all vaccinations - On monthly heartworm preventative - Crate trained and potty trained - Knows basic commands (sit, lay down) I’m a vibrant young Doberman, and I’m feeling great after being nursed back to health. I have a shiny, healthy coat and love playtime, especially when I can run off-leash in a fenced yard. Fetch, chasing balls, and playing tug-o-war are some of my favorite activities. I even invent my own games! On hot days, you’ll find me happily lounging in a kiddie pool and drinking water. I’m very good with my crate – it’s where I eat and sleep, and I’ve never had an accident. I’m friendly and playful with both people and other dogs, and I’ve never shown any signs of aggression. I would love a home with another high-energy dog, preferably male, as I still get a bit excited around females. I was recently neutered, so those urges should calm down soon. I thrive on attention and positive reinforcement. I might get a bit excited when meeting new people, but I calm down after a few minutes of play and become very sweet and attentive. I’m food-driven and patient, so I respond well to treats and training. I’m ready to be part of a loving family and would make a loyal, affectionate companion. If you’re looking for an energetic and playful dog who loves attention and exercise, I could be the perfect fit for you! Apply at bigloverescue.org Doberman experience a plus.

Story
Maximus came into the shelter as a stray on 1/25/24. We had high hopes of reuniting him with his family because he came in wearing a collar and had a microchip, but unfortunately he has not yet been reclaimed. He has a distinctive scar all along his back that has long since healed. No telling what happened to him to get it, but it adds to his rugged good looks. Maximus has the manners of a gentleman. He’s a great leash walker and already knows how to sit on command for a treat. He takes treats gently from your hand too. He can be aloof, but he’s always a good boy. He’s just very independent and self-sufficient. He takes his entertainment into his own paws! He’s not one to sit by your side and be pet for long. He enjoys squeaky toys a lot though! He has an average energy level.

Story
Rocky was found roaming around in the neighborhood and running away from whoever tried to catch him. He finally came close one day to play with a dog and he was caught. I've fostered him trying to find his owner as he had a collar and seemed well taken care of. No chip and no luck finding the owner. We believe he was dumped as we notice he's always checking we're still with him during walks. He likes to be where he can see us and feel the company but he also behaves well when we leave the house as we constantly check the cameras to check on him. He rarely barks, only when he's outside for potty and wants to let us know he's done. He's housebroken and crate trained. Gets along with my other dog, she's the one who can't stand him however we just keep them apart so noise or barking rarely happens. He loves scratches and cuddling. He's shy but very sweet when he gets to trust you. He eats regular Purina Dog Chow twice a day.

Story
We got Mr. Theo 4 years ago when he has born. He does not have his papers but he is purebred. He’s very loving and true definition of mans best friend. Follows you everywhere you go and sits patiently till you’re ready to give him attention. He loves sleeping on my lap/couch while getting relaxing pets. He LOVES the dog park and gets along with everyone. Just be careful saying PARK. That’s his favorite word and he gets very excited. He’s house trained and sweet. He doesn’t bite. Even though he looks like a scary dog he doesn’t jump on anyone or invade personal space.
