Story
slow burn, worth the wait Wheat is ready to be your new favorite book. Just don't judge her by her cover - she may have 'resting glare face', but it's all bluff to hide that's she's actually a silly little goose who loves forehead rubs and napping by your side. Wheat is the ultimate slow burn, enemies-to-lovers epic romance. After being overwhelmed by the shelter environment, she needed time to decompress, and she still gets stressed out by big changes. In the couple months with her foster, Wheat has gone from wanting a break after just a couple pets to enjoying a session of vigorous cuddles before plopping and purring next to her foster mom for a cozy nap. She has gotten much more comfortable - she even sleeps in bed with her overnight! She might not ever be a lap cat, but she'll definitely rub circles around you. Wheat would love a stress-free home so that she can retire happily! Wheat really needs love and stability after being surrendered after 10 years due to a new baby in her previous family with allergies. She is looking for a quiet home with adults and young adults where she is your only cat. While she is quite the foodie, she needs people who will help her lose a little bit of weight slowly and safely. She is best on a wet food diet due to a history of kidney stones, but wet food makes her very happy! All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Wheat please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.

Story
Lap Invader, Outgoing, Confident While Lil Bit can absolutely fill her own time and be an independent lady, she definitely prefers the company of her humans to being alone! A person she can rub up against, convince to give her pets, or crawl into the lap of is the purr-fect companion for Lil Bit! Anyone who enters the room Lil Bit is in, better be ready for some love and attention! She gets excited and immediately beelines for any newcomers to her space, and hopes they'll want to be her friend! Humans and her brother, Big Baby, are always welcome cuddle mates, and Lil Bit has previously lived with an 80 pound dog just fine! She does well with equally independent furry siblings, whether they are a canine or fellow feline! Her and Big Baby would benefit from a slower introduction to not only other animals, but their new home as well. Most of Lil Bit's energy goes into giving and receiving affection, but she does have a playful streak when a wand toy is brought out, or a spring is rolled across the floor. She hasn't given in to solely lounging around the house all day and does enjoy a little but of excitement! Lil Bit and her brother, Big Baby (130652), were adopted together as wee kittens, and have been together their entire lives! They also lived with the same beloved human, who recently became too ill to care for them, and made the heartbreaking decision to help them find a new loving and forever home. Lil Bit has helped Big Baby with the changes in their lives, frequently seeking him out, checking on him, and rubbing her face on him to say, "It's all going to be okay!" It is obvious that these two gorgeous and engaging tuxedo kitties are bonded, love each other, and depend on each other, so they must be adopted together. Learn about Big Baby here - https://bit.ly/4bKR1f5. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Lil Bit and Big Baby, please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.

Story
Sophia needs a new home along with her sister Savannah. Going together would be ideal for them. I helped a neighbor with her cats for about 5 months keeping them at my home and Sophia/Savannah were ok with them. They didn't interact - but co-existed. They can also co-exist with dogs. My dog is stressing them out chasing them constantly. They are my ex-husband's cats and he cannot take them. I am moving into a much smaller place so taking them is not going to work. Not only will I be over the pet limit, they will have even less room to run from my dog. They are from the same litter and were trapped as feral kittens on 5/31/2016. Based on their age at that time, the birthday they were given was 4/18/2016 making them now 9 years old. They do need a high/tall litterbox. They pee high. Sophia is a biscuit making, lap cuddler. They will be both be a bit shy at first, but she will sit in your lap for hours if you let her. She will eat plastic and strings/ribbon.

Story
PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO - Nicky's story starts at 6:55 min. Nicky is an absolute survivor! A homeless man near Skidrow started feeding Nicky when he was already in bad shape. But the homeless man didn't have the means to take Nicky to the vet. He built him an adorable little house made out of a cardboard box and covered with plastic to protect Nicky from the cold and rain. We rushed Nicky to our vet immediately and he was extremely underweight, his skin had sores and scabs all over, he had injured paws and the worst: Nicky had a diaphragmatic hernia. The vet thinks that he had been hit by a car at some point and the hernia kept getting bigger, literally pushing his intestines into his lungs and against his heart. It was a race with time, because Nicky was in such bad condition at first, that he was not a candidate for surgery. But Nicky has a strong will to live and he is a super nice cat! He purrs immediately when you start petting him. He's a quiet guy and loves to eat. With proper TLC and medication, Nicky started to gain weight and his skin cleared up. Just in time for his life saving surgery. Nicky received the operation to repair the hernia at one of the best hospitals in Los Angeles. He's an absolute miracle cat! Nicky is recovering extremely well from the surgery and indulges in eating his favorite foods. Nicky is about 6 years old, so he's fairly young for a cat. He is FIV+ but Leukemia Negative. Nicky could be in a home with another cat or as the only kitty. He's a very patient, loving handsome guy! Nicky would love to have his own home where he would be loved and he could make up for the time of neglect in the streets. Will you make Nicky happy?! Ingrid (512) 980-0105 pcdrapps@yahoo.com

Story
Carrie 3 came into our program when she was found at a feral feeding station in Houston. She strolled up to the feeder, and it seemed to be pretty obvious that she had been dumped there, and was definitely not feral!  Carrie spent the first couple of weeks in her new foster home in a walk-in pen, where she was able to observe the other cats and dog in the house while remaining safe. She has since come out of the pen, and has been integrating herself into the family. She is even used to the dog now! She can be picked up and carried around, but she isn't too excited about it and wiggles her way out of my arms. She will take time to adjust to her new home, but she is worth it! ##2121724##
