Story
PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO - Nicky's story starts at 6:55 min. Nicky is an absolute survivor! A homeless man near Skidrow started feeding Nicky when he was already in bad shape. But the homeless man didn't have the means to take Nicky to the vet. He built him an adorable little house made out of a cardboard box and covered with plastic to protect Nicky from the cold and rain. We rushed Nicky to our vet immediately and he was extremely underweight, his skin had sores and scabs all over, he had injured paws and the worst: Nicky had a diaphragmatic hernia. The vet thinks that he had been hit by a car at some point and the hernia kept getting bigger, literally pushing his intestines into his lungs and against his heart. It was a race with time, because Nicky was in such bad condition at first, that he was not a candidate for surgery. But Nicky has a strong will to live and he is a super nice cat! He purrs immediately when you start petting him. He's a quiet guy and loves to eat. With proper TLC and medication, Nicky started to gain weight and his skin cleared up. Just in time for his life saving surgery. Nicky received the operation to repair the hernia at one of the best hospitals in Los Angeles. He's an absolute miracle cat! Nicky is recovering extremely well from the surgery and indulges in eating his favorite foods. Nicky is about 6 years old, so he's fairly young for a cat. He is FIV+ but Leukemia Negative. Nicky could be in a home with another cat or as the only kitty. He's a very patient, loving handsome guy! Nicky would love to have his own home where he would be loved and he could make up for the time of neglect in the streets. Will you make Nicky happy?! Ingrid (512) 980-0105 pcdrapps@yahoo.com

Story
Staniel is an affectionate, yet playful, male who is currently an only pet. Staniel loves attention and cuddles, he can be very vocal when he wants love. Staniel loves treats and playing with toys, he can occasionally get a little over excited when playing or seeking affection. Staniel is shy, and takes a bit to warm up, he does not do well around babies or small children, they tend to make him anxious/nervous. Staniel has been an only pet pretty much his whole life, and may take some adjusting if going to a home with new friends.

Story
This is Garbanzo Bean! (Bean Boy) He's a very high energy young man. Loves playing and being chased/chasing. Loves sitting at the window bird watching, and loves pumpkin puree. Sometimes he likes to play too rough. He would most likely do well with another younger cat/kitten that also enjoys playing. He doesn't do well with dogs. We are rehoming him because he torments our older cats and pounces on them when they're relaxing. He's 10 months old and we were hoping he would calm down with age but just hasn't. He's still young and may calm down with age.

Story
Meet Hopper! Hopper came to us as a stray, but took to human affection very easily. During his time outside, he had an unfortunate incident which lead to his back left leg being amputated, but don't let that fool you! He has never lost his spirit! Hopper is a young male, roughly 1 and a half years old. He is a feisty lovebug with a big personality, and vocal! He's a wonky little dude, who loves to play, be chased, kicker toys and more! But more than anything, he just wants love and attention, and a home to call his own

Story
Sweet, Affectionate, Food-Motivated Need a new home office assistant? Dwight Schrute is your guy! He's up for any job, especially if it involves giving head boops and greeting everyone he sees with sweet meows. Dwight is a super friendly guy who loves being around people. He loves laying on you and following you around and will snuggle up against you any chance he gets. It's actually incredible how loving and trusting he is of people despite what he has experienced in his past. Dwight came to APA! via AAC after being brought there with wounds on his shoulder and leg. He was tragically a victim of human violence and has a bullet lodged in his spine. Despite the absolutely terrible treatment from humans he has experienced, Dwight has shown that he has learned to love people again and deserves to find the most loving home where he will be spoiled with attention! Because of Dwight's past injuries, he is incontinent with hindlimb paralysis and requires some extra medical care. He needs his human to press gently on his bladder twice a day to "express" it and help him go pee. It is super easy once you get the hang of it, and APA! will show you how! He doesn't need any help to poop; he will just leave little poop nuggets on the floor which are easy to clean up a few times a day. For more information, please contact APA! Dwight has been living with other cats in a group room at APA!, so he can peacefully coexist with other kitties, although he doesn't play or snuggle with them much. He also would rather not have any other kitties try to roughhouse with him. He much prefers the company of humans! Dwight is pretty easygoing and only meows when he's asking for food or greeting people (which he loves to do)! The perfect forever home for Dwight is one with people who have no problem helping him out with his incontinence needs and will give him all the love and attention he deserves! Dwight has been through a lot, but nothing would make him happier than to find his forever home where he can hang out with you throughout the day and curl up next to you for pets and snuggles. Oh, and lots of treats and snacks too! All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Dwight Schrute, please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.

Story
Affectionate, Chatty, Zoom-tastic Steel is a super-snuggly girl who adores pets and will roll around on the floor at your feet to ask for them. If you don't notice her, she'll follow up with an announcement about how very much she would love some cuddles. Her long black fur is gloriously soft, so you will love brushing and petting her! She charms visitors with her loud purrs, head-butts, and sweet chirps, making sure no one leaves without giving her some well-deserved pets. Your friends will comment on how perfect she is, (as we well know!). But don’t let her cuddly nature fool you—this girl’s got energy! Steel loves a good zoomie session, darting up her cat tree or racing around the room before flopping down for more affection. Steel enjoys using her cat scratcher. She also has a fondness for kicking towels. No need to buy kicker toys for her; she'd rather use the towel! On the patio, she loves to soak up the sun and let the day go by. If you have a backyard or like spending time outdoors, she’d love to keep you company while you garden or just hang out.. Steel is a tripod kitty who doesn’t let anything slow her down. She was found on the street with injuries to her hip and leg. But no worries, she has healed perfectly and gets around just fine! The same injury also caused her incontinence, now she needs a little help to go pee. She needs expressions (pushing on her bladder to make her go) twice per day. Steel is her foster’s first incontinent cat, and got into the routine quickly. She sometimes dribbles when she’s walking around, but it’s not too bad. When you come home, she may dribble a bit on the floor from excitement. (If only everyone were so happy to see you!). Her foster helps her out with peepads and pee resistant blankets. She has also used diapers a few times with her, and she tolerates them well. Although since she’s missing a leg they sometimes shift around! In every other way, Steel is a “normal” cat: fun, loving, and ridiculously adorable. She comes with a lifetime supply of cuddles and purrs. Everyone who meets her absolutely adores her. Steel’s sweetness more than makes up for the extra care she needs. Again, she is perfect! Reach out to meet Steel, you’ll be happy to become her friend! All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.

Story
Sweet petite purrmachine Mama Morton is a lovely, gentle senior lady who is very calm and friendly. Mama is on medication for hyperthyroidism, and she eats a prescription renal food for her chronic kidney disease. Both issues are still easily managed, and she seems to be so grateful for getting the care she needs! Mama loves her scratcher and sometimes plays with mouse toys, but her favorite pastime is just hanging out next to you. She'll head-butt you to ask for cuddles and butt scritches. Mama gets along very well with her foster's resident cat. She doesn't actively engage much but is content to be near her. Mama would love to live out her golden years in a calm, loving home with people who are happy to give her the care she needs. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
