Adoption ProcessNOTE: We are now Adopting with our new VIRTUAL Foster-To-Adopt Program. We are sorry but to help lessen the spread of COVID-19 only staff are allowed in our buildings.Interested adopters will be assisted over the phone or outside the shelter (PLEASE WEAR YOUR MASK) in person to go through our available animals or our animals ready to go into foster homes. Once you have chosen your pet, an appointment time will be set for you to come to the shelter with your carrier. You will call the number you have been given and your pet (with two weeks worth of supplies) will be brought out to your vehicle.In two weeks, you will call OR email us to let us know how everything is going and we will forward your documentation via email along with your receipt of payment.Want to pay your adoption fee or make a donation? We can do that over the phone with VISA or MasterCard (sorry, no Visa Debit cards) or simply e-transfer finance@s-dhs.ca . The adoption fee is only a portion of the cost of care for your little one. 10 Hosk- Cats were brought in from a home where the amount of animals had grown out of control. All underweight and starving they have now been medically treated and are ready to find their purrfect furrever home.Hoskinity is a younger one from the crew a very sweet and social male who loves people and attention. Very food motivated and he will do anything for a treat or a snack. He is certainly ready to go to his new home, however, he has some gastro issues and may take a vet appointment and couple of weeks to adjust to his new surroundings. We ask that the new adopter does not change his food or schedule as this will cause some gastro issues. Staying on the same food will help keep issues down.

This beautiful boy was surrendered to SimcoeDHumane. Infection caused the eye perforated. Once ruptured, eye enucleation was the only treatment. He has recovered from his eye surgery and his demeanor has changed to be simply wonderful. If you don't have room in your home for this boy, please think about a donation to go towards his care! Dasha is an adorable epitome of friendliness and playfulness. She loves to chase after toys, cuddle up in your lap, and purr contentedly. With a sweet and gentle nature, this little furball is sure to bring endless joy and love into your home. She is spayed, microchipped, flea treated, dewormed, tested negative for FIV/Felv. She has also received her core vaccines and rabies.

Lucy was the kitten to a Mother cat dropped off at my parents' farm. She was born in August 2019. We brought her home in Sept 2019. She loves boxes, and loves to look out the window. She cuddles with our big boy cat Lewis. My youngest daughter was 10 when we got Lucy. Lucy did great with her. She is very timid around the 2 dogs that have moved in along with my college aged daughter (in 2021). Before the dogs came, she was the perfect cat. She never messed outside the litter box, she let Lewis let me vocally know it was feeding time, she loved scritches on her head & loved sleeping on my youngest daughter's bed. But the dogs are too much for her & she is now very stressed and anxious. I have tried anxiety medicine & have tried a separate Cat room, but she is still reacting to the dogs. Lucy would be a loving companion for someone in a house with no dogs or puppies. She needs some time to know that no dogs will chase her slobber on her, and once content, will make a great friend.

Binky was born on April 8, 2023. He has been vet checked, dewormed, flea prevention, needle, rabie shot, fixed and micro chipped. Binky is a very lovable little guy who loves to get all the pets he can. He has a twin sister who he plays with all the time. He is very curious and will investigate everything he can. Merlin was born on April 8,2023. He has been vet checked, dewormed, flea prevention, needle, rabie shot, fixed and micro chipped. Merlin is a very inquisitive young man who will get into anything he can. He loves to get his pets in as well as follow you everywhere. He gets along very well with his siblings. Meet Arebus (male, black) & Trixie (female, calico)! Arebus & Trixie are about 3.5 years old. They were surrendered to our rescue due to allergies. Once they settle in, you will find Trixie to be more outgoing & social – she enjoys pets and snuggles but also has that Calico independent streak. Her partner in crime, Arebus, is shier and will take a little time to warm up but once he does, here is what his foster mother has to say ‘Arebus is ridiculously affectionate. He is my lap cat! Truly one of the most lovable cats I’ve met. He loves touch and stares into my soul when we’re cuddling. He just needs time!!!’ Both are gentle and playful and would be fine with another gentle cat. They are fine with the male cat in their foster home. They had a very difficult time with the hyper active puppy in their original home and consequently we do not recommend that they be in a home with dogs. Arebus’ original owners decided to declaw him in the front earlier this year because he was scratching the furniture. We do not support declawing for any reason and truly wish they had surrendered him to us before declawing him. It is shameful that any vet in Ontario would declaw a cat because he is scratching furniture. Arebus also had a urinary issue in 2022 that we believe was the result of poor diet & stress. We are firm believers that all cats should get wet food every day. A tablespoon of wet food twice a day and lots of fresh water goes a long way in helping to prevent urinary crystals caused by a dry kibble diet alone. They are both on a urinary diet now and Arebus is doing great. Arebus & Trixie have been neutered/spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Meet Miss Astrophe! Astrophe is a sweet, playful, cuddly girl who needs patieence and love. She was left behind when her family was evicted. She arrived skinny and frightened but has become more social and certainly not as skinny now. Astrophe is an avid catnip fan, loves treats and has a favourite squeaky toy that her foster home finds buried under floor mats or stashed beside the bed. Astrophe is not a fan of male cats but has learned to tolerate the male cats in her foster home. She is okay with the female cat in her foster home. Astrophe doesn’t mind being picked up or held and enjoys napping on the bed or nearby on the couch with her foster parents. She does not like her tummy touched though. Astrophe will be anxious at first and will need patience to build trust. She has gotten better but is still jumpy around loud noises and unexpected movements. She would do best in a calmer, more mature home that will not abandon her again. With patience & love, she will make a wonderful companion. Astrophe has been spayed, vaccinated, vet checked, microchipped and tested negative for FIV/FELV. Mocha can be very lovable once she gets used to you but can also sometimes be very shy. With a bit of love and patients she can turn into a very lovable sweet girl.
