Story
I'm Carissa, a 2-year-old, 60-pound Dutch Shepherd. I'm a survivor: a very kind rescuer found me starving, fending for myself in the woods in Texas. She saw what an amazing, sweet girl I am and wanted to make sure I had a chance at a good life. I love people and get along with all dogs -- I really enjoy playing with canine friends! I also adore children. I have such a lovely temperament I might even make a good service or emotional support dog. I'm smart and already know a few commands, like fetch and sit. I'm also completely healthy, heartworm negative, and spayed. Mostly, I'm just a sweetheart who wants to love and be loved. All I need now is my forever family! Please apply at https://www.saveadog.org/applytoadopt.asp. Available after 8/26/24.

Story
Rainbow is looking for the love of a lifetime! We have her listed so that we can share her story and perhaps find someone that will understand her needs and have the patience to see her become a wonderful companion dog. There is always hope. I am her foster mom. She is timid and fearful and although she allows me to touch and pet her, she is a very special case. She is currently fostered outside in a large dog pen and has run of my backyard at night. I often have other foster dogs and cats/kittens so it is always a busy time for taking care of everyone. She loves her dog house and comes out sometimes when called. She was trapped on the property of a school in Homestead. We rescued her pups and then trapped her. She had serious mastitis and needed surgery. This was 2.5 years ago. We had a couple of trainers come to my house and work with her. She does not like the leash although she was able to run alongside a trainer on a bike ride. She loves cheese. She has never been fostered inside of a house, though we do think that would change her perception of life. We have just never found a foster that would accommodate her special personality and be able to spend the time that she needs. Rainbow has been around my dogs and she has never been assertive or aggressive. She does sometimes bark at the dog next door through the fence. Rainbow weighs about 60 lbs. She eats well and probably doesn't get enough exercise. She is probably about 6/7 years old. Rainbow is not your typical dog. We do still keep hope in our hearts that someone will come along that will devote time and care to her so she can be the dog that she was born to be. If you would rather have a dog that is already trusting and ready for adoption, we have others. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. Story
🐾BRUTUS🖤 Brutus is a 2 year old Dutch Shepherd/Lab mix according to his embark testing! He’s a big cuddly goofball and loves to make his humans laugh! 🥰 This lanky boy is very smart and loves to do training/learn new things and keep his brain busy, which makes sense with his awesome breed mix! He’s very affectionate and loves to follow his person around and cuddle. He rides great in the car and is fully crate and housetrained. 💯 Brutus is a great swimmer and loves to play fetch in the water, his foster is currently training him for dock diving! Despite being very active and having lots of energy he has a great off switch, too. He can get excited very easily and has some manners that need work but his foster mama is having so much fun training him & he’s learning quickly. 🐶 If you’re interested in dog sports, Brutus would be a great match for you! Especially if you’re a beginner - he is so eager to learn and please.🥰 For his forever family, Brutus is seeking an active home with someone who is willing to keep up with his training and give him plenty of exercise. He thrives when staying active both physically and mentally. He does great with all sizes of dogs & older kids. He is a very social boy and would do great with some dog friends in his home! 🏡 Does Brutus sound like the adventure buddy you’ve been looking for? 🫶🏼 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
MEET JUNIE!June Bug is a lovely little lady who`s ideal day consists of plenty of playtime with another dog, making silly noises at her people, and taking a nap with some toys. Because her routine is so much better when she has a doggy role model, we think Junie would prefer to live with confident and playful adult dog who can match her energy and teach her how to dog. Junie has really come out of her shell since first coming to the shelter but would ideally prefer to live in a home outside with the city with teens and adults only so she can continue working on confidence building. Her adopters must continue to work on her force free training! Could you be her new person?Junie is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed, microchipped, and seen by our vet team. For more information on Junie or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. Story
MEET GUS!Gus (also known affectionately as Goose) is an entertaining goofball. Gus likes relaxing with bully sticks, playing with his toys, and has the potential to be a good hiking buddy with some training and confidence building. However, Gus`s real superpower is how well he gets along with other dogs. A confident and energetic adult dog would make him happiest in his new home! Gus is still learning how to be a puppy so he would prefer a home outside of the city with routine and teens or adults only please! There will certainly never be a dull moment with Gus, he is very smart and will be a quick learner!Gus is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped, and seen by our vet team. For more information on Gus or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. Story
Ellie is about 6 years old. She would do well in a home with a dog or cat. She's very energetic and intelligent. She loves meeting new dogs, going for long walks, and running around the yard. Her favorite way to play is with a tug toy. Ellie knows the commands Sit, Stay, Heel, Come, Down, and Go to Crate. She heels on the right side. Indoors she will reliably follow commands. Outdoors she will tend to follow her nose, but with training she's getting more reliable. Her release word from Sit or Stay is Okay. She knows Go to Crate but I don't crate her currently. Ellie is hand shy around new people, she needs to trust anyone new before she'll allow them to touch her. This can take time, between a couple hours to a few days depending on the situation. She will growl and then nip if someone reaches for her before she is ready. She typically takes treats from new people at a distance using Stay, and must be muzzled at the vet. Adoption fee covers toys + food + flea/tick/heartworm meds.
