Story
Nala is a beautiful, happy Dutch Shepherd who is great with other dogs and friendly with people.  She has spent the last two years on a working ranch after her mom suddenly passed away and a kind lady took her in so she wouldn't end up in the local high risk shelter.  The woman who saved her has tried to find a forever family for her, but in North Dakota's rural ranching there is not a lot of interest in Dutch Shepherds and Belgian Malinois, so she asked MAD to find this sweet girl her forever home. Nala walks well on a leash and knows sit, down and has good recall.  She is crate trained and loves to hang out on the couch and cuddle.  While treated with great kindness and love, Nala has not received the exercise, stimulation and play time that she needs to thrive.  Running a large ranch does not leave the woman who saved her any time to meet Nala's needs beyond the basics of food, shelter and affection.  Nala will thrive with an owner who has the time to provide her with toys, balls, training and stiumlation to bring out her full potential.   Nala was purchased from a breeder by her original owner, and has a solid understanding of basic obedience.  She is crate trained and loves a good couch! All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and one-year subscription.  If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link  https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic.  *********************************************************************** We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. Story
#MadLoveHazel located in MichiganDear MAD pack,My name is Hazel, I am a lovely, 5 year old Dutch shepherd female who would like to talk to you about me.I grew up in South Texas and my family left me at the shelter in Spring of 2024. I didn't really understand why, because I am a very easy going girl. I get along with dogs, I love people, I have a sweet attitude and I am very loyal.I learned a lot at the shelter, as spring turned to summer, I settled into thinking this may be my new home. I had a roommate who shared a small kennel with me, her and I got along very well, I got some tests done for my health and they took some pictures with a big machine. My new friends at the shelter found that I had heartworms, but those are fixable! They also saw that my bones had old damage on them, my silly little butt wiggle is actually from an old healed pelvic wound. When my friends saw these things they shared with MAD that I was deserving of a fresh start. After some time and lots of talks, I scored myself a ticket a freedom flight on a plane to Michigan. As summer turned to fall, I started this new chapter.I became a MAD dog, not because I am upset, but because I am special and deserving.I have been getting medicine to heal my heart, I am learning about toys, and food and treats. I enjoy walkies. I enjoy my foster family and with more and more training I am becoming a great lady who is a wonderful family dog.I spent far too many months of 2024 being a rescue dog, my new years resolution is to be a forever dog! Now as winter arrives, I find myself wanting a family more and moreI am a good girl, I am lower drive, I enjoy building a bond with people. I am smart, I am learning to be a dog and I enjoy toys! I will work for food and treats!I am a great addition to your family and with structure, I thrive I have many years left to get on with this thing called life! I am a great first time Dutch shepherd for anyone who is interested in this breed.I have so much love to give and so many hopes for the new year! Please consider welcoming me homeWith Love,HazelFor information on how to apply, please reach out here or apply at madrescueinc.org.Your comments and shares help me reach more families who may consider adopting me. Your help is appreciated      Meet Hazel, a 5-year-old Dutch Shepherd-mix who is as charming as she is resilient. While we don’t know much about her past, she was surrendered at a Texas shelter in July and was brought to Michigan on a "Freedom Flight" by MAD in October   Why Hazel is the Perfect Companion: Affectionate and Friendly: Hazel adores people and thrives on attention, loving belly rubs, ear scratches, and being close to her person. Easygoing and Gentle: Hazel has a low-medium energy level and a calm, gentle disposition, being more on submissive end of spectrum. She takes treats gently and handles vet visits like a pro, even staying relaxed during nail trims despite having the quick nicked on a nail and bleeding everywhere! Hazel’s not overly motivated by treats or toys yet, but she’s just beginning to settle in, and she might show interest in them over time. Quick Learner: She’s (re)learning how to wait patiently for her leash, doors, and meals and responds well to guidance. She’s a quick study and responds well to guidance, especially on walks (sometimes forgetting her person is on the other end of the leash but redirects easily). Good with Other Dogs: Hazel has done well with dogs at the shelter and is warming up to her new dog companion, showing she can adapt well to a multi-pet home. She will be meeting cats soon and no issues are expected. Unique Charm: Hazel has an old pelvic fracture that is fully healed. Due to her old injury, she has a slightly shifted tail and fabulous butt wiggle when she’s excited – it’s sure to make you smile! Challenges to Consider: Medical Needs: Hazel will be undergoing heartworm treatment over the next few months and will be spayed before joining her forever family. In addition to the old pelvic fracture, she has a chipped canine tooth, but they don’t seem to cause her discomfort but are things to be aware of. Uncertain Around Children: While Hazel is great with adults, she hasn’t been around small children or adolescents, so her adaptability there is unknown. Adjusting to Routines and Car Rides: Hazel is still learning some basic manners and will need ongoing help getting comfortable in cars.   We will continue to update her profile over the next few months as we learn more. However, if you're looking for a calm, loving companion with an adorable wiggle, get your application to MAD in - Hazel is ready to join your home!   All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and one-year subscription.  If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link  https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic.  We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. Story
Zara is a sweet, petite 2.5 year old female Dutch Shepherd who absolutely loves, loves, LOVES her person! Zara was picked up as a stray in Southern Connecticut and resided in a shelter for close to a year, which left her with a bit of a fear of the world around her. Despite that, she has really come out of her shell and learned that the world is not such a scary place and humans are capable of giving her the love she craves! This snuggle bug would do well in an active family where she has an outlet for her energy, which she's got plenty of. However, this sweet girl has an off switch and will gladly snuggle with you as well! One of Zara's favorite activities is being brushed - she will sit there as long as you have the stamina to keep brushing her beautiful brindle coat.  Zara is not too keen on other dogs, but can coexist with them as long as introductions are slow. She's learning that other dogs can be fun, too, and was even spotted playing tug with one, but she has some resource guarding tendencies due to the length of time she was in the shelter. Zara is crate trained, though she's not a huge fan of it, and muzzle trained as well. She is untested with cats, but seems to like kids that are willing to let her warm up to them - then she will snuggle until the cows come home.
