Name:  Lexie   Best Guess for Breed: Cocker spaniel mix  Best Guess for Age:  3 years as of August 2024       SEX:    Female   Approximate Weight:  20 lbs   Gets Along With:   Lexie does well with other dogs. We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested. When Lexie arrived in the shelter, she was very scared and shut down. However, she has been making great strides. We think Lexie would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure she can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to continue to build confidence.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations: Lexie comes from a commercial breeding operation and has never lived in a home before.  The breeding operation has been shut down, and this adorable pup now has the chance to learn what its like to be a real dog. She hasn't experienced enough of the world and is shy. She needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog who will show her how to dog!   We would also be cautious placing her in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Lexie is Looking For:   His forever family! This sweet shy girl wants nothing more than to be safe and loved - and to have her own humans to love. She's looking forward to exploring her new home - her new neighborhood - the world! To get there, she needs extra patient and loving adopters who understands she needs a gentle introduction to new places, people, and things. A welcoming resident dog will show her how it's done too!  Lexie has so many adoring gazes stockpiled and all the love and loyal companionship in her little heart to offer her new humans. What do you say? Are you the soft landing this sweetie deserves? Is she the one for your lap and your life?
