Story
Meet Sadie! This sweet and playful 1-year-old girl is looking for her forever home where she can share her love and excitement with a family. Weighing 60 lbs, Sadie is the perfect mix of fun and affection—she loves to run and play but also enjoys curling up on the couch for snuggles.Sadie is wonderful with kids and truly lights up around them! She adores little ones, including toddlers, and would love a home with children to play with in the yard. She also gets along well with other dogs and even cats. She is house-trained, crate-trained, and walks well on a leash. She’s a fast learner, already picking up on commands like “sit” and “stay,” and she’s quickly learning the word “no.” She’s also doing well with learning to chew only her toys. While Sadie is loving and loyal with her family, she is more reserved with strangers, especially men, and takes time to warm up to new people in her home or out in public. Because of this, she would thrive in a low-key household without frequent visitors, where she can feel safe and build confidence. With her silky black coat and feathered tail, she may have some flat-coated retriever in her. As a young pup, she still needs supervision to ensure she doesn’t get into mischief, but her playful spirit makes her an excellent match for an active family. A fenced yard where she can run and play would be ideal for her.If you’re looking for a loving, affectionate, and eager-to-please pup who will be a loyal best friend, Sadie is ready to bring joy and companionship into your life! Apply to adopt at bcaaofnj.org.Interested in adopting this pet?Click here for BCAA's on-line Application! PLEASE NOTE: Our adoption fee helps to cover our expenses and includes all shots, *age appropriate*, distemper and rabies, fecal check, spay/neuter, heartworm test, grooming, and in many cases dental and also the fee we pay when we rescue from a shelter. Story
ABOUT ROCKY Grab the tissues...this boy is sure to melt your heart! Rocky came to HAP from a high-intake shelter partner in Alabama as a neglect case. When Rocky arrived, he was covered in mange and flea dermatitis, so bad that he was full of scabs and had hardly any fur left. He was also so emaciated, to the point his excess skin rolls blended with his ribs. Despite being in such poor condition, he was determined to live life to the fullest! In Alabama, he was placed in a loving foster home to help him heal. He learned what it felt like to be truly loved for the first time. As he began to put on weight, he began to feel energized and his personality blossomed! He is affectionate and playful with his human pals. Rocky loves playing with other dogs and has been a rockstar in doggy playgroups. He gets along well with everyone, though he has a hard time keeping up with hyper puppies after a while. Although Rocky's hair may never fully grow back, he doesn't notice he's any different from any of the other dogs! He is so goofy and loves his stuffed animals! You can usually find him holding his favorite extra large yellow duck stuffed toy, which he sleeps with and carries everywhere. He never tears his toys, rather he treats them like his prized possessions! Rocky is a special boy who loves love. Understandably, he has his reservations with new people but warms up quickly when he realizes he is safe! He has such a kind heart for what the world has thrown him. Would you give him a chance? Rocky has participated in our Doggy Day Out program too! Here's what some volunteers had to say about him: "First doggy day out today! I took out rocky. He is an old man but is young at heart. He loved meeting everyone he came across on our long walk through campus, and put his head on peoples laps during class. The professor even let us out 10 minutes early so everyone could meet him! He was a bundle of joy. He was a little skittish around cars and loud noises but overall a very good boy :) made sure to keep him hydrated with lots of water today throughout the heat." "Rocky is the best. He is such a love  just wants to give and receive love. He's my best buddy. He's a ladies man! I just love him so much. He's gets excited when he first gets attention and will show you his stuffed animals. They are his best friends and he carries them around and protects them. If he likes you he will push them into you to share with you. At least he always did with me. Then calms down and is medium energy. Walk well on a leash and keeps his kennel very clean!" If you are interested in Rocky, you are welcome to submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is first-come, best-match basis. We are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in a specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come for the meeting to ensure it is a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animal's spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
ABOUT FELONEIGH Despite her incriminating name, this girl is a total sweetheart! Feloneigh is a a 2-year-old husky mix with lots of love to give. She came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for her. She quickly rose to fame among our staff and volunteers for her affectionate personality and gentle demeanor. Feloneigh enjoys hanging with people, cuddling, and afternoon strolls. She has made some doggy friends, though she can get retreat if pups come on too strong, so a dog that like to sniff and say hello properly before playtime is best! She already knows basic commands and walks beautifully on a leash, making her a wonderful companion to adventure with! Feloneigh has participated in our Doggy Day Out program, check out what our volunteers have to say about her: "Spent my first DDO with the best cuddle bug Feloneigh! The first thing she did when we got to the apartment was straight to the bed, she snuggled the whole time!! She was the best girly - she likes watching Bluey and got endless kisses and belly rubs!!" - Kelly "I had Feloneigh for the day! What a DREAM of a dog. She is extremely gentle and loves to give kisses. She’s definitely more on the skittish side and tends to prefer to stick close with you, but she responds well to reassurance. She is very calm in the car. We took a 3 mile walk around Rockford Park - she did great on the leash with no pulling. She loves making eye contact with the person walking her. During walks she will sometimes pause and gently put her paws up on you, and if you sit down with her she just wants to cover your face with kisses. After our walk we spent some time in my apartment for cuddles and snacks and she was super calm and well behaved. She settles herself down nicely without prompting. Feloneigh is such a loving, sweet girl and just needs someone who can help her gain a little confidence! She seems like she would do well with a family looking for a dog who can handle both high- and low-activity days!" - Julia If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire!
