Story
ABOUT ROCKY Grab the tissues...this boy is sure to melt your heart! Rocky came to HAP from a high-intake shelter partner in Alabama as a neglect case. When Rocky arrived, he was covered in mange and flea dermatitis, so bad that he was full of scabs and had hardly any fur left. He was also so emaciated, to the point his excess skin rolls blended with his ribs. Despite being in such poor condition, he was determined to live life to the fullest! In Alabama, he was placed in a loving foster home to help him heal. He learned what it felt like to be truly loved for the first time. As he began to put on weight, he began to feel energized and his personality blossomed! He is affectionate and playful with his human pals. Rocky loves playing with other dogs and has been a rockstar in doggy playgroups. He gets along well with everyone, though he has a hard time keeping up with hyper puppies after a while. Although Rocky's hair may never fully grow back, he doesn't notice he's any different from any of the other dogs! He is so goofy and loves his stuffed animals! You can usually find him holding his favorite extra large yellow duck stuffed toy, which he sleeps with and carries everywhere. He never tears his toys, rather he treats them like his prized possessions! Rocky is a special boy who loves love. Understandably, he has his reservations with new people but warms up quickly when he realizes he is safe! He has such a kind heart for what the world has thrown him. Would you give him a chance? Rocky has participated in our Doggy Day Out program too! Here's what some volunteers had to say about him: "First doggy day out today! I took out rocky. He is an old man but is young at heart. He loved meeting everyone he came across on our long walk through campus, and put his head on peoples laps during class. The professor even let us out 10 minutes early so everyone could meet him! He was a bundle of joy. He was a little skittish around cars and loud noises but overall a very good boy :) made sure to keep him hydrated with lots of water today throughout the heat." "Rocky is the best. He is such a love  just wants to give and receive love. He's my best buddy. He's a ladies man! I just love him so much. He's gets excited when he first gets attention and will show you his stuffed animals. They are his best friends and he carries them around and protects them. If he likes you he will push them into you to share with you. At least he always did with me. Then calms down and is medium energy. Walk well on a leash and keeps his kennel very clean!" If you are interested in Rocky, you are welcome to submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is first-come, best-match basis. We are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in a specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come for the meeting to ensure it is a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animal's spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
This puppy has just arrived! They have come to us on transport from a shelter partner, were found as stray, or surrendered to our care by an owner. Puppies require a significant amount of structure, routine, time, patience, and training to learn how to behave properly in a home. The first few months of having a puppy is a critical time to establish boundaries and help your puppy understand what they can expect from you and what you expect from them. Remember, puppies aren’t born knowing how to live in a human’s world, it is up to you to teach them how to make good decisions in a positive and caring manner. The more positive interactions they have in their first year of life will set them up for better behavior in the future. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Arlo! Arlo is an 8-year-old, 61 lb., Lab mix who was found as a stray and brought to a shelter. This sweet boy deserved so much more so we brought him into our rescue. Arlo had a few lumps and bumps removed and had his teeth cleaned. He suffers from separation anxiety so he takes medication. Arlo also has a small limp from arthritis and receives medication for this as well. The cost for these is about $49 a month. Arlo has good vision and hearing and is fully potty trained. He gets along well with cats, dogs, and older, dog savvy children. Arlo can handle stairs and walks well on a leash. He isn’t comfortable in a dog crate, but sleeps on a dog bed, and is comfortable being contained with a baby gate. Arlo’s ideal home would have people home most of the day and a smaller dog friend to keep him company. He loves taking walks twice a day and going for car rides.  Arlo is a sweet, sweet boy who loves being cuddled and giving kisses. He likes toys with squeakers, people watching,  and saying hi to the neighbors. Arlo also enjoys being brushed and napping in warm spots. He’s a good boy about taking his medicine as long as you have Kraft cheese slices! Arlo can fit right into your home and fill your days with love. Please apply today!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **The girls have unique requirements**  My beautiful Chessie/Lab sisters Cher & Sienna. (1) Must be adopted together, and the adoption fee is waived for one of them. They came from a previously severely abusive home when they were pups & (2) are waiting for the perfect family to come along that must have previous experience with abused dogs. They are very sweet and gentle & love kind & tender attention.    Cher is a very shy yet charming canine on a journey to find a patient parent(s) with a relaxed lifestyle. She's looking for someone who can offer gentle guidance to help her come out of her shell. If you treat her sweetly and kindly, she promises to blossom in your care. Meet Our Shy but Sweet Canine Duo - Lab/Chessie Sisters Sienna and Cherry, our Lab/Chessie sisters, have had a challenging start in life. They require a special family with personal experience in caring for abused dogs. These pups have unique needs stemming from their traumatic past, akin to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Both Sienna and Cherry are on medication called Clonidine, which has significantly improved their well-being and is affordable at only $10 for 180 tablets from Walmart. Background Sienna and Cherry's journey began when they were rescued at the tender age of 5 months. They were starving and scared but have now transformed into beautiful and loving dogs under our care. Personality While initially shy, these sisters have charming personalities that shine through once they feel safe and loved. They yearn for an home that can provide patience and a relaxed lifestyle to help them fully recover from their past traumas. Requirements We are seeking a family with personal experience in caring for abused dogs. Sienna and Cherry need a family that understands their history and is committed to continuing their healing and trust-building journey. Physical Characteristics As of now, both dogs weigh around 75 lbs when fully grown. There are a few videos below so you can see how they react here in their foster home. Our lovely Lab/Chessie sisters were abused in their previous lives in VA. While they've made great progress in their foster home, they are initially nervous around humans. However, with time and patience, they warm up and show no aggression, only a deep longing for trust and love. We accept Venmo, Zelle, PayPal & Credit Cards for the adoption fee.      About LNF Dogs/Puppies: All dogs and puppies have undergone temperament testing. They live in foster homes. They are housebroken (puppies are paper-trained) and crate trained. They have been microchipped for identification purposes. They have been tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, and Lyme disease. Adoption Fee: The adoption fee includes 30 days of FREE pet insurance, with an option to purchase additional coverage. The rescue strives to provide the best medical care to ensure the health of the dogs, including spaying or neutering. Adoption Requirements: A minimum physical fence of 4 feet in height is mandatory and must be installed. Some dogs may require a 6-foot wood or vinyl fence, as noted in their profiles. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ADOPTED!!! Please note: Our beautiful Joy does require a 6-foot wood or vinyl fence, no chain-link or split rail.    Meet Joy, my lovely, sweet, loving girl Joy Her 'Meet Your Match' designation is: Teacher’s Pet -   I’ve got the whole package — smart, four legs, love to learn, and live to please. Go ahead, teach me anything. Sit, stay, and balance your checkbook, I can do it all. Keep me entertained and I’ll be yours forever.    Joy lives up to her name as she is always joyful, so very happy that now she lives with people who love her & now she feels safe. She had litter after litter in WV & I would say her previous life was that of pure neglect. She is about young & about 60 lbs (she's gained 10 lbs since she joined the rescue) & I have her listed as a Lab/Antalion Sheperd mix. Her coat has so many shades of gold & yellow, she is really stunning, expecially in the sun!    When it comes to people, she's indiscriminate with her affection. Joy doesn't believe in strangers, she's ready to shower everyone with love. I love how when you are close, she leans into you gently, offering a soulful gaze of absolute adoration. She is also very intelligent, it seems that when I look at her sometimes I can see her thinking!    This tall, lanky and I think very regal looking young lady is a bundle of love wrapped in a desire for attention. With her keen senses, she thoroughly enjoys walks where she can indulge in the various scents around her. Her trust, which is quickly earned, is as solid as a rock, and with it, she's game to explore and try out anything.   If you're looking for a loyal companion who looks at you like you're the center of her universe and is eager to be a part of every adventure, then Joy is the young girl for you! Don't miss a chance to make Joy a part of your family. Read our adoption requirements & if you can meet them you can apply for her right here at our website. Come & meet her and get ready to be greeted with boundless enthusiasm and love!       We accept Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, and All Credit Cards for the adoption fee.      About LNF Dogs/Puppies: All dogs and puppies have undergone temperament testing. Story
*My adoption fee has been sponsored by a FFAS supporter!* Hi-ya! I'm Scrappy! Little, cute, and the best sidekick, just like my namesake! I came to the shelter when my family wasn't able to take care of me anymore and I must say - it's a big change from a cozy home to a shelter kennel. I'm one and a half years old and 49 pounds! I hope that my new family has a love for big, goofy boys, because that's what I'll be when I grow up! I love playing with other social and active dogs, so if you have a canine sibling, that would be ideal! I would love a patient family who is willing to help me learn all of my best boy manners as I grow up - could that be you? I would love to start the journey out of the shelter and into my true, forever, happily ever after!    Have Room in Your Home? Welcoming in a pet saves your new pet's life and creates space for another pet to get a chance! Not sure if Scrappy would be the best fit for you? Send in a generic app! Our team will work with you to find a pet to best fit your lifestyle! You will go home with a starter bag of food, one month of flea and heartworm prevention, and also have 90 DAYS of training help included with your adoption, if needed! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Silky (2yo and 59 lbs) is a charming Labradoodle and Hound mix who is ready to steal your heart! This adorable pup is not just super cute and cuddly, but also incredibly affectionate. Silky's favorite activity is snuggling up on the couch with his people, making him the perfect companion for cozy movie nights or lazy afternoons. While Silky loves his indoor cuddle sessions, he's also a big fan of the great outdoors. He enjoys running and romping around, and would really thrive playing fetch in a yard. He has made significant progress with his leash training. At first he was a big puller but after a few weeks of training, Silky now knows to check-in and will loop around and come back to the heel position if the leash is taut. He doesn't need to go on long treks but is happy to do so if you're up for it. Mostly, he loves sniffing around bushes and trees, taking in all the exciting scents. This intelligent boy is a fast learner and already knows several commands, including sit, down, paw, and go to bed. He's crate trained and sleeps soundly through the night in his crate. For Silky, the crate is his off switch—he knows it's time to nap when he goes inside. We are stilling working through some anxiety issues including barking when meeting new people/dogs, hearing noises, and separation anxiety. Silk is going to thrive with the right person could that be you? Please fill out an application if you are interested in adopting. abuddyforlife.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 4, 2025, 1:40 pm
