Story
I ain't nothin' but a hound dog and you can find me howlin' all the time hoping for my forever home! I'm an outdoor enthusiast with a nose for adventure. If you're someone who loves to soak up the sun and breathe in the fresh air, then I'm your paw-fect companion for outdoor escapades. While I may enjoy the occasional afternoon nap under the shade of a tree, nothing gets my tail wagging quite like the promise of a nose-down walk, where I can immerse myself in the intricate world of scent work. I may seem a tad aloof at first, but offer me a tasty treat, and watch as our bond blossoms like a flower in spring. With a repertoire of tricks like sit, paw, and down, I'm trained and ready to go!Post Adoption Training Scholarship (PATS)At SAVE, we understand that the current economy presents challenges, and this impacts dog adoption rates. To ease the financial burden on adopters and help our adoptable dogs find their forever homes, we are excited to introduce the Post Adoption Training Scholarship (PATS) program. This initiative funds the first five training sessions with a qualified trainer for select medium and large breed dogs, identified in their adoption bios. For more information, please call the shelter director (Jack Griffin) and ask about the PATS program.Complete the online adoption application on our website. The shelter is open by appointment for approved adopters. We have appointments available daily except Mondays. We look forward to helping you find your furry best friend! Barney is an affectionate, sweet boy. Probably not a year old and loves to play. He has that wonderful hound voice but he's not obsessive with it. He does well with other dogs, he's not familiar with cats but plays to hard with chickens. He's very smart and has learned a few basic commands. He would be a loyal companion for a little love. For more information on Barney and our adoption process please enclose your phone number with your inquiry or call Jacki at 941-587-4612.  August 18, 2024, 1:36 pm

Story
***Special needs. She was hit by a car and had several hip surgeries. She needs joint supplements and may eventually need some support for her back and in the form of a wheelchair support vehicle!*** Meet Jenny! Jenny is a 2-3-year-old foxhound, whippet, pointer and jack Russell terrier mix!! She was hit with a hit by a car within the first year of her life. She was turned over to a shelter in South Carolina who contacted us because we are well-known to help with special mobility needs dogs. Of course, we said yes. Jenny has endured two hip surgeries, on the same side of her hip for both of them. The first surgery was a female femoral head osteotomy commonly known as an FHO. The surgeon removed the head of her femur and made a pocket in the hit muscle as a replacement. She also removed many bone fragments as well. It took Jenny nearly a year to recover from the first surgery and then it was determined she needed another! The second surgery seem to do the trick and removed a lot of scar tissue and extra bone growth that had become painful for her. Jenny is a happy-go-lucky girl. She’s always on the lookout for bunnies and squirrels, that’s the hound in her! She loves to play with other dogs, but big dogs that are rough can be a little much for her although she can hold her own! She does well playing on grass but a lot of walking on concrete will need some special care to make sure that her back legs don’t drag. She uses both our back legs very well, but will always have some mobility issues. She often tends to walk sideways when she gets tired! Jenny has gotten along well with all her other foster dog siblings. Jenny hasn’t met a stranger and also has been great with the children she’s met. As well as the cat in her foster home. Jenny is very well crate trained and housetrained although her accident has left her with urgency when she needs to go outside to potty. And Jenny walks well on a leash and loves to walk the neighbourhood looking for anything that moves! We feel that Jenny is ready for her forever home after over a year in her rescue foster homes. Interested in becoming a forever home for Jenny? Fill out our online adoption application: http://www.friendswithfourpaws.org/adoption-form.html This is the first step in our process, and we don't go any further without an application. Find more adoptable pets, news and information on Instagram @friendswithfourpaws or our Facebook page Friends with Four Paws. We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions to find our babies the best fit home for them and you. Please do not submit an application if you are not serious about adopting Jenny. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and Jenny the perfect forever home, and appreciate you working with us. For immediate consideration, please attach your application to the initial inquiry to help us expedite the process. Our adoption fee is $525. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention and travel expenses. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed. Thank you in advance for your patience with our process and for making adoption YOUR option!

Story
Meet Spanky who certainly has a charm about him! Everything about him screams "Squeeze me!" Spanky is a six-seven year old American Foxhound mix that is very loyal and follows his family room to room just waiting for the opportunity to share his love. His current living situation has changed and he has moved into a new environment where the resident older Chiweenie has decided she is not comfortable with larger dogs. Spanky loves toys and loves to carry around his blanket in his mouth. He does well with housetraining and is eager to please. He is also a cuddler and snuggler. He's a hunk of love! Spanky is active but once his energy is expelled he calms right down to watch a movie and chill with you. He has a shy side so he might be overwhelmed but a chaotic environment. With a name like Spanky, you know he has PERSONALITY! The best way to begin. An adoption is to request an adoption application by EMAILING STORKWOODS@COMCAST.NET. This is the BEST way to begin. We have foster homes in several areas of the country. We do have transport available.
