Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hello! My name is Winston Churchill, and what I crave most in life is love, affection and safety…my biggest dream is to be YOUR fur-ever companion! I’m a total love bug if I do say so myself! My foster family also says that I’m very handsome (TOTALLY TRUE) with a loving and playful personality…also true! Most of the time I’m just a mellow guy who’s happiest when nestling into my people or lounging in a round comfy bed or couch (preferably by my humans of course!). In addition to cuddling, I enjoy stuffy toys (the sturdy kind!), squeaker balls, and I also love chewing on Nylabones. Toys & bones aside, if you REALLY want to know the way to my heart bring on the belly rubs, head scratches, food (did I mention I LOVE breakfast?!), and treats! In fact, if treats are involved, I will undoubtedly master any trick or skill! Speaking of…I’ve now learned to “sit”, “touch”, “stay” and “leave it”…that last one being important as sometimes I think my poop looks like a snack! Hee, hee!! Don’t judge! Anyway, I sleep like an angel at night in my crate with my people nearby, but I don’t like being left alone and will bark, bark, and bark some more if I am left in that thing with no one around…I mean seriously is wherever you’re going SO important that you can’t take me with you!?! I just love my people so much, and I feel anxious when they leave. But, my foster fam is starting to trust me being outside of the crate for short test-runs. They told me they can see everything on the doggy camera, so I’ve been on my best behavior and just look out the window quietly waiting for them to return! With that said, it would be good if you’re home with me lots and that my forever home didn’t have shared walls. Moving right along, I have not met any cats, but I think I’d be ok with them if they keep to themselves LOL; I don’t like a lot of commotion and I’m working on building up my confidence, so I think a household without kids would be best for me. However, I have met lots of dog friends now and LOVE playing with my two resident dog sibs! I also love leisurely walks at the park (although when we walk near our house, I don’t understand why we walk AWAY from all the good things already at home!). I am potty trained on a schedule, and a fenced-in backyard would be a great option for me (as I don’t always do my “business” on walks…too many cool things to see and smell!). I’m still learning to trust people who aren’t MY people (if you know what I mean!). So when we venture out to new environments, I put on my shy-guy face. And when friends and family come to visit the house, it takes a while for me to warm up to them. But foster mom is working on showing me that the big world isn’t so scary! In fact, I love to hang out at Bachman’s and dog-friendly breweries…I’m a quietly “watch and observe” type of guy right now – but when it comes to treats… I’ll GLADLY take those from anyone!! In the end, I am an angel of a boy who is simply looking for YOU…a patient, unconditionally loving fur-ever family that will NEVER give up on me. Will you please be my heart? I promise I will love you more than you could EVER imagine! ALL my love, Winston Churchill *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home. Bulldogs are a member of the Brachycephalic breed and therefore have a host of health issues that may arise.  Because these dogs are new into our rescue, health issues in the future may arise that we are not aware of.  Some of these issues are allergies, eye issues, yeast infections, interdigital cysts, slipped disks in their back, breathing problems, among a host of others that can occur at any time or when seasons change. While breed experience is not required, we encourage you to thoroughly research the breed and its financial, medical, and environmental needs to be sure the breed is a good fit for you and your family.  It is estimated that the average bulldog owner spends $2,000 per year on medical needs.   In addition to normal pre adoption surgeries, Winston Churchill also had surgery on his nares and soft palate to improve the quality of his breathing. This is reflected within her adoption fee. Bulldogs are one of the most expensive dogs to own, maintain, and rescue and our adoption fees reflect such expenses.  The application process for bulldogs usually moves quite quickly as they are a popular breed, so we ask that adopters do research and be prepared for adoption at the time you submit your application.  They are happy, goofy, playful characters and we are excited you are taking the first steps into rescuing one!   This dog requires an application fee.  This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.    We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. Bulldog Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the bulldog. Our goal is place bulldogs in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the bulldog, we will not approve your application.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi – my name is Malaga and I hope my initial shyness doesn’t turn you away from adopting me.  You see, once I warm up to you and feel safe, my goofy personality comes out to play.  Although I am very skittish, I am also very submissive.  I never show any aggression or bite.  In fact, I have a 5-year old friend here at my foster home and I don’t mind her.  Due to my skittish nature, I do need a fenced yard.  It’s just best for all of us that way so I don’t get away. The fenced yard has also helped with my potty training – with a good routine I am doing great. We are also working on crate training and I am a superstar! While I’m good with other dogs, I don’t show much interest in them – I am just a mellow gal! I don’t bark often (usually just when suuuuper excited when you come home).  I’ll even manage a few zoomies when you return just for show.  And if you tell me to “lay down”, I am smart enough to know that’s when I need to lay on my bed.  Just don’t stand/walk behind me (remember that skittish thing I have?),  I like to be the one in the caboose section.  I don't need another dog in my home, if my people are home often. If you are, having another doggie buddy to hang out with would be great! Overall, I’m a chill dog.  Sleeping/naps are what I do the most. We are working leash walks and I am a little alarmed with the pull of the leash, but we are practicing!   If I sound like a good match for you, that’s wonderful!  Until I hear, I’ll just stay here napping and gnawing on bones. *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hey there! I'm Danny Devito, a lovable 9-year-old French Bulldog, weighing in at 24 pounds of pure charm. I may be a senior, but I've got the heart of a puppy and the spirit to match. I'm all about being close to my humans, no matter where we are – inside, outside, at home, or out and about. I'm pretty mild-mannered, except when it's feeding time. Then, I become very vocal, urging you to hurry up with my meal! I love a little yummy in my tummy! I adore everyone I meet and will happily lay at anyone's feet for some pets and love (and treats!). At the dog park, I love hanging out with bigger dogs. I might be small, but I enjoy running around their ankles and joining in the fun. Despite my age, I still have short bursts of energy and an entertaining running style that can make anyone smile. I love toy bones and stuffed animals, and after doing my business outside, I make sure to remind you – loudly – that I've earned a treat. I never let you forget the treats! I'm great with cats, always respectful, and I don't need a fenced yard. Leash training is a work in progress, and while I'm not a fan of long walks due to my little legs, I do okay with short distances. I can be quite dramatic if you try to take me too far – I'll lay down on the grass or sidewalk and close my eyes until you pick me up and carry me. I'm potty trained for poop, but we're still working on a routine for pee  - sometimes foster mom puts a belly band on me just in case. I'm crate trained and know the hand signal for "come," and we're working on "kennel." I’m a little hard of hearing so the hand signals are working great. I'm mild-mannered, love to snuggle, and will take over any blanket within reach. I have a particular fondness for cat toys if you have those lying around. Stairs are a bit of a challenge for me – I do a silly slow-hop that sometimes needs a bit of encouragement. I thrive on attention, petting, and treats. If you're looking for a low-energy companion who loves snuggles and has a big personality in a small package, I'm your guy. Could I be the perfect addition to your family? *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!       Meet Scout! This adorable one-year-old Frenchie is on the lookout for his forever family! Despite being born with spina bifida, Scout doesn't let it slow him down. While he may need to wear a diaper and suspenders due to lack of control over his urine and bowls, his ability to stand up makes diapering a breeze. He is able to express his bladder and bowel himself and does not require and assistance in that realm - just changing his diaper. Frankly, not having to go outside in bad weather is a plus, and there is nothing to pickup in your backyard! Because of this, Scout cannot go 8+ hours a day without diaper changes, so he does require someone who works from home, or can stop home to help change his diapers to avoid infection and chaffing. Scout is full of personality, with plenty of opinions to share. He's a playful pup who never seems to tire out, often leaving his friends wondering how he keeps up the energy. When playtime winds down, Scout isn't one to rest for long; he'll grab a toy and entertain himself by tossing it around with gusto. Scout is eager to find a loving home where he can continue spreading joy and laughter with his playful antics. Due to his energetic ways, not all dogs appreciate his play He has doggie friends, who enjoy playing like him, but it is not preferred by all. Scout can't wait to start a basic obedience class with you to keep learning and to make up for lost socialization when he was a younger pup. Scout has not met any kids, but is ok with dog-savvy cats.  He is crate and leash trained, so does not require a fenced in yard.  Scout is looking for a special home, but we know it is out there Scout is an incredibly sweet boy who loves life and not all he needs is YOU…a patient, unconditionally loving fur-ever family that will NEVER give up on him. Sure, he may be a bit higher maintenance than others, but his heart is enormous and it’s overflowing with love that he wants to share with an amazing family. If you will welcome him into your world, he promises you that not only will he show off his excited bouncy dance, but he will make you the center of his universe!!  Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Hi.  My name is Ronnie.  I am a laid back and sweet male Frenchie, really the most perfect gentleman if I do say so myself! I really love my people and want to be near them all the time - some would say I am a Velcro dog, but I would say that I am 25 pounds of love! I love to follow them everywhere - if the resident dogs get too close to my people, I push my way in – but not in a mean way.  After all I am a French gentleman.  I can sometimes get protective of the people I choose and guard them to keep them for myself.  A child free home would be best for me as that commotion gives me a bit of anxiety as I try too hard to control them.  I'd do best in a home as an only pup and have my forever person all to myself, so I do not need to have another dog living with me as long as my people are home quite a bit of the time. If you do have other pups, they'd be best if submissive because I am an alpha guy in the pecking order.  I have learned how to nap on dog beds and have been caught snuggling in together with the other pups! I love treats and have learned how much fun toys are. I walk great on a leash so I don’t need a fence in my forever home. I don't like that crate thing all that much and voice my discontent. Because of that, shared walls are not ideal because apparently neighbors don't appreciate things like that.  The humans here leave me out while they are gone and I just rest until they return.  I really do prefer to sleep on the sofa or find a warm spot in the sun.  My ideal home would be one where the humans are home during the day.  You see, I've been bounced around a lot in my life and what I really need is consistency and someone to not give up on me. The first few days/weeks when change happens, it makes me nervous that you are going to leave me forever and I show some separation anxiety. But, once we get that schedule down and you tell me you're my pack leader, then I will start to trust that you will never leave me. I'm a very loyal guy who sadly has not a lot of consistency in my life outside my foster home.  So, if you worked from home and were a bit of a home body, or could take me with you to work or on adventures, that would be just perfect! I am potty trained and know what "outside" means so that helps me know what is expected.  I also know "sit" and am working on "stay" - so I'm a smart guy! I also don’t mind car rides and would love to go to work with you if given the chance. I love to snuggle and sleep with foster mom at night.  Foster mom says I am a goofy boy who is still learning how to be a dog.  All I need is a loving forever home to help me become the best dog I can be. *Bulldogs are a member of the Brachycephalic breed and therefore have a host of health issues that may arise. In addition to normal pre adoption surgeries, Tyler also had surgery on his nares and soft palate to improve the quality of his breathing. This is reflected within his adoption fee. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Happy sunny day, potential forever home people, my name is Aruba!  At least it’s sunny today, when I’m writing this. I am a shy and timid French Bulldog looking for a forever home with lots of patience and love to help me grow into the best girl that I can. Let me start by telling you that I really need a fenced yard and despite attempts, I have no interest currently in leashes. I also need another dog (I’m not picky on size of them or breed/sex) as they help teach me how to be a confident dog and I pick up their cues. At this stage of my entrance to life in a home, I’m still very standoffish, especially with women. My forever family needs to understand that I need to go at my own pace and terms. But I do enjoy having other dogs around, I enjoy playing chase with them and so far they’ve taught me it’s ok to get close enough to lick your hand. I am determined, with a little help from my friends, to learn all about living in a safe and happy home! So, I don’t want you to be turned off that I am not a cuddle bug (at least not yet) but I do enjoy my toys, balls, and all things chewable, like treats and gnaw bones. My fosters have attempted to take me in public but I froze in fear. I tend to do that when I don’t feel safe in any space. But that fenced yard is key – that is where my personality comes out when my furry sibs and I play.  I even go potty out there in the yard and when on a good schedule, I do well! So while it’s not perfect, I’m close. I understand what the crate is for and also have picked up some commands, like “sit, kennel, outside and go potty!”  That shows you I’m smart.  I’ve got a routine and insist we follow it.  At bedtime, I’ll bark at you while we get our jammies on. Foster mom is working on my bedtime routine and we're making good progress, as she continues to show me that I am sage and no longer have to live in that kennel. I am very food motivated and that will help you build trust with me.  During the day, I’m kenneled with the other bulldog who lives here, as it helps alleviate any anxiety I have.  But when you get home, I’m going to tell you all about things.  The kennel is my safe space and they have one in the bedroom for nighttime and one in the living room for me during the day. Oh and if you haven’t had a bulldog before, you should know you’ll need to wash my wrinkles almost every day since they get filled with goobers and slobber.  *winkwink* Another thing to know about my diet is that I have some food sensitivities that are typical to bulldogs and am on a raw food diet. I would prefer to continue eating raw if possible. When I went into the vet, I had some pretty nasty ear infections and that is why my ears curl and flop. Foster mom says it gives me personality - and I agree.  Because I was not spayed at a young age, I have a hormone related mass in my uterus. Since being spayed, it has already decreased and will continue to do so. It causes me no issues, but they said I should note that here.  In time, that should go away, so nothing major to worry about there!  I also had my breathing surgeries on my nose and DANG does it feel good to breathe now. I'm all fixed up and ready to keep learning about this new life with you. Are you a patient and loving home ready to bring some sunshine into your life? I am ready to find my forever family and hoping that is you!
