Story
We got Loki last March from the shelter as a puppy. She was around 12ish weeks old, give or take. She was dumped and obviously abused in her short life. We’ve had her ever since, no issues, until the last few months. My huskies have become extremely territorial and aggressive with her, we break up lots of fights. She’s been attacked for simply drinking water. I am in fear for her life. This isn’t fair to her. I can’t control when they’re going to fight and I can’t keep them pinned away 24/7. She is a husky/shepherd mix. Pros: crate trained, literally the sweetest dog on planet earth, loves to snuggle, loves to LOVE, good with cats, has never had an issue with other dogs, very easy going, good with kids, potty trained, intelligent, laid back. gets very car sick 🤢, extremelyyyy skittish (we’ve never laid a finger on her and she runs if we move too fast, loud noises, etc. this is due to abuse as a puppy), sheds. She would make a wonderful pet. She loves our toddler and us.

Story
Looking for an excellent family dog and companion, but also a great potential protection dog or competition dog? Look no further than Mia, our 2-year-old German Shepherd/Malanois mix. This breed makes a loyal and devoted companion. They tend to be a little more level headed like the German Shepherd and are not as overly active as the Malinois and they are easier to live with as a house pet. Mia came to us when her owner decided he was too busy to devote to her the time she deserved. She has completed her basic command and manner training in Camp K-9 at the Kentucky State Reformatory. Her inmate handler describes her as having medium energy. She is Dog selective so a meet and greet would need to occur if her potential owner has a dog. She enjoys self play playing with her own toys. She is house trained and crate trained. She does alert at strangers sometimes. Mia has a clean bill of health and is up to date on vaccines and is on flea/tick and heart worm prevention. She is microchipped. Mia would do best in a home where her owner has experience with dogs of her breed or large dog experience.

Story
QUINCY is a one year old male shepherd/chow mix that weighs 60 lbs. He was picked up with 2 other dogs running along the interstate. The other two were claimed but apparently Quincy had strayed too far from home? He is an active young adult that gets along very well with other dogs. He is crate, leash and house trained. He has also been started on some basic obedience. HIs current energy level is still "puppy" enough he'll need an active home environment and a fenced in yard. He'll do best with a family that has dog experience. He's very smart and eager to please but commands attention. (it's a shepherd thing!) An owner who will continue his obedience training would be ideal. If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Quincy's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Additional adoption FAQ's can be found here also. Meets will be set with approved applicants based on our "best family fit" approach. Thank you!

Story
LuLu -Paws Behind Bars Trained Lulu is German Shepherd mix, and as such, she is a smart, athletic, bundle of energy. Although she is a puppy, our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program is the perfect place to let her grow up. She quickly mastered her obedience training and is able to work on her social skills in all different kinds of situations. LuLu will do best in a home with an owner who has good dog experience, preferably with working breeds. We already see that If LuLu isn't "working, she is looking for puppy mischief. She will need plenty of physical AND mental exercise. At her age, she can be successfully introduced to other dog(s) in the home but we are recommending young male dogs. We do not think she's a good fit for small children or cats. Her home will need a fenced in yard. Most importantly, she needs an owner who will maintain her training and understand her high drive to please and "work". IMPORTANT: Please Keep in mind LuLu is under an year old with a life expectancy of 12 + years. Our guiding principle for adoptions is to seek the right fit for our rescues and the families, including a home that can stay committed to the animal for life. If interested in adopting, our process begins with the submission of OUR online application which can be found at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com. Additional adoption FAQ's can be found there also. Meets will be set with approved applicants only.

Story
MISTY is a 2 year old, female german shepherd that weighs 65 lbs. She is smart, affectionate, and active. She was a bundle of energy when she came in and lacking in social skills. Paws Behind Bars had an opening so in she went. Some dogs take longer than others to get to the point they are ready for a family of her own. While she was never aggressive or difficult around people, she had a lot for us to "unpack". First, she's a german shepherd. She needed a job to do and a person to work it with her. Second, she had an enormous amount of energy and she needed exercise. Finally, she needed exposure to sight, smells and sounds until most of it became her new "normal" and not something she needed to run away from. All of this took months, well, maybe almost a year. But Misty has grown up into a lovely young lady! She is ready for a home of her own. Her perfect "fit" with be with an active, adult family (she'd be fine with older children). She must have a fenced yard. She is fine with other dogs as long as it's a younger, easy going male. Most of all, and in order to thrive, she needs an owner who understand the breed. They are incredibly loyal and smart. If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Misty's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Additional adoption FAQ's can be found here also. Story
DELTA is a 3 year old german shepherd, pit bull mix female. She currently weighs 59 lbs. She is a graduate of our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program and is very, very well trained. Like many german shepherds, Delta enjoys a "job". She is smart and she is focused. She is also very athletic. Her most outstanding physical characteristic is her ears! They are always held high and on alert! Her most outstanding personality trait is her love of water and deflated basket balls. If you're a lake person, here's your girl! If you've outgrown your school basketball years, and have an old one or two around, here's your girl - she will self-entertain for hours. Her perfect home with be one with active adults and a fenced in yard. DELTA does need to be the ONLY dog and she says NO to cats. She will be satisfied simply by having her "person" and becoming the most loyal companion in your life. If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on DELTA's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Additional adoption FAQ's can be found here also.
