Story
Zoey is a beautiful young sable German Shepherd female estimated around 5-6 years of age. Zoey was a stray and we unfortunately do not know her history but Zoey is happily looking forward to having a family of her own.    Zoey is a playful and rambunctious girl. Her favorite activities include playing in muddy ponds, getting all the love, and inappropriately barking at unknown dogs and people. Zoey is learning how to navigate the world and make new human friends. While Zoey can be a very friendly and social girl she is at a critical point in her life known as the 'fear period' and can struggle with reactivity when meeting new people. It is extremely important that Zoey have a confident, experienced, handler that can compassionately guide her through the safe socialization she needs in order to learn how to navigate the world kindly. Zoey is very much a puppy and while eager to please she is still figuring out what is expected of her and how to rise to those expectations. Zoey has been great meeting volunteers with the guidance of her foster home and with those she knows is a very loving, playful girl. She has enjoyed going on hikes around private property and exploring ponds and mud puddles. Zoey is an active and athletic girl who is going to require ongoing exercise and structure to ensure her growth into a well rounded adult Shepherd. Zoey would be a great running companion, hiking buddy, and would likely excel in a number of dog sports. Zoey is NOT suitable for a home with children at this time.    Zoey is still figuring out other dogs and how to interact in a polite manner. Zoey can be very vocal when she meets new dogs and was defensive with other dogs when she arrived at her foster home. She has since settled in and is able to enjoy playgroups with other young Shepherds as well as group hikes. Zoey is slowly figuring out that she can play appropriately and doing a great job. Zoey will require ongoing structured socialization and guidance to maintain her progress as she is at an age of development where her socialization both in and out of the house is vital. Zoey is NOT friendly with cats or small dogs as she has shown a very high prey drive with both.    Zoey is a young, eager to please, and outgoing Shepherd who is searching for an active, loving, and adventurous home to give her the guidance and love she needs to grow into an even more wonderful companion. If you're the home for Zoey please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 8:53 pm

Story
Layla is a stunning female German Shepherd who is estimated around 5 years of age. Layla was a stray therefore we do not know her history or background prior to arrival at the shelter.     Layla is a fun girl who doesn't seem to understand the purpose of humans outside of meal times. She is aloof and generally seems to not understand why the other dogs would bother with human attention - after all humans are only good for their opposable thumbs. Layla defaults to ignoring people unless solicited for attention in which case she is happy to entertain her adoring fans. Layla has a diva energy about her and definitely thinks she runs the shows sometimes. Layla does not typically seek attention or playtime and prefers to chill out and do her own thing.  Layla has had very limited interactions with children at this time but has done well with the few she has met.        Layla is fostering with other dogs and enjoys being the bossy supervisor of anything they do. She tends to ignore the dogs 98% of the time but in the instance that she catches them playing or being too energetic she is quick to be the fun police. Her version of fun is being the fun police it seems and most dogs do not appreciate her reprimands. She gets along well with the more laid back dogs and those that tolerate her controlling nature. She would likely prefer being an only dog or with older, laid back, dogs. Layla is not good with cats or small dogs.        Layla is a beautiful girl who is looking for a patient home that will guide her in becoming a loved family member. Story
Merv is a handsome young male German Shepherd estimated around 2.5 years old. Merv was a stray so we do not know his history or background prior to arrival at the shelter.    Merv is a social, outgoing boy who happily brings joy and entertainment wherever he goes. He is a beautiful and energetic boy but not always the smartest cookie in the bunch. Merv is people-centric and is an eager to please guy who thrives on guidance from his humans. He has a big heart and is looking to someone to be his 'person'. Merv is an active dog and would be a phenomenal hiking or jogging companion. While he isn't constantly on the go, he isn't a couch potato either. Merv has only been around kids 10 + years of age but he has done well with them.    Merv prefers to be the main character in this storyline and isn't looking to share his home with other dogs. Merv has been able to acclimate to living with other dogs in his foster home but still struggles with reactivity and requires diligent supervision of his interactions with the other dogs. He has greatly improved his leash manners and is doing better at ignoring dogs in public as well.  Merv is NOT friendly towards cats or small dogs.    Merv is a beautiful, sweet young guy who is looking for some much needed guidance and love to help him thrive as a good canine citizen. Story
Gia is a female German Shepherd around 5 years of age. Gia was kept as a backyard dog and struggles with barrier reactivity. She was surrendered to the shelter after getting out of her yard and nipping a jogger.   Gia is a very sweet, loyal girl who is learning how to expand her social circle. Gia adores those she knows and has been an outgoing, friendly girl with all of the volunteers she has met. Gia thinks she is a lap dog and loves to get attention - especially butt scratches. Gia is generally a well mannered girl but does struggle with barrier reactivity around her crate and fences. She can be a pretty vocal, wild girl in this situations but calms down quickly once out or redirected. Gia has not been around children to our knowledge.   Gia does great with the other dogs in her foster home. She is appropriate and friendly with the other dogs although she isn't very playful. She isn't one to romp or roughhouse that we've seen but she does a great job navigating the other dogs in the yard. Gia has NOT been cat tested.   Gia is a big, loving girl who is looking for an experienced home that can help her continue to grow her social circle and improve on her FOMO when crated. Story
Avery is an adorable German Shepherd mix around 10 years of age. Avery was originally with us as a young adult dog when she came through the shelter as a stray. Avery spent the last 8 years in a pet home that surrendered her for no fault of her own. Avery is looking for a retirement home to enjoy her golden years with.    Avery is a very sweet girl that practices the art of being a wallflower in new social situations. She is not the sort to immediately be your best friend but she isn't rude either - she just prefers people she knows. Once Avery has decided you are 'in' then you are in for life and she wants to be part of anything you are doing. She is still a pretty active girl for her age and enjoys supervising yard chores, going on walks, and of course decompressing with your favorite TV show. Avery has been around kids 8 years and up with no issue but does prefer the calmer, more settled kids overall.    Avery doesn't mind other dogs and is mostly indifferent to them. She had not been around other dogs in her previous home so she was a bit defensive with them in her foster home but has adjusted well to them. She is not one to play and will appropriately reprimand the younger dogs for getting too pushy with her. Avery has been around barn cats which she wants to chase but also doesn't want to catch - she gets excited when she sees them from a distance but when they are in close quarters in the barn she ignores them. She could likely adjust to sharing the home with cats but may need some guidance.    Overall, Avery is a kind-hearted senior who has had her life turned upside down and is looking for a soft place to land. If you have room in your home and heart for this sweet little mixed breed gremlin email us at Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit Tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQs.    ** The last few photos are of Avery as a young adult when she was first with us **Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 8:53 pm

Story
Chelsea is a beautiful female German Shepherd estimated around 1.5 years of age. Chelsea was a stray therefore we do not know her history or background prior to landing in a rural Kentucky shelter.    Chelsea is a strong, independent girl with clear working line influences. Chelsea is good with people but she is not a particularly social girl outside of "her" people. She is a high energy girl who is always looking for something to get into and is too smart for her own good. Chelsea is on the hot mess express in many ways and is looking for a home that can channel the energy and brains of a strong-willing working dog into appropriate outlets. Chelsea would thrive in advanced obedience and any number of dog sports. She is the sort that needs a job and clear guidance to ensure she doesn't try to rewire the house.   Chelsea is a bit too pushy for most other dogs and is having to learn her social manners. She tends to be the fun police in the yard and wants to control what everyone is doing which does not win her any friends. Chelsea has yet to figure this out and is going to need ongoing guidance as she continues to learn how to be a good canine citizen. Chelsea is NOT good with small dogs or cats.    Chelsea is a smart, active girl looking for a family that will give her the love and socialization she needs to thrive.
