While an animal`s picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is lifesaving. Adopt Don`t Shop.

Story
Meet Blue, a one year old German Shepherd/American Pit Bull Terrier mix weighing in at around 70 pounds.Blue is a beautiful girl who came from a house that had too many dogs and was quickly overwhelmed as they continued to breed. Several rescues were involved in rehoming the animals and altering them over the past several months. She is a little unsure which is to be expected as she only knew one home her whole life and is now living at a shelter facility. This girl is friendly and lowkey. She walks well on leash and really has a sweet disposition. With a little TLC this gentle sweet heart will blossom. Story
Meet Freddie, an almost two year old Shepherd/Catahoula mix weighing 75 pounds.Freddie came from a house with too many animals and the owners quickly became overwhelmed as they continued to breed. Multiple rescues were involved in help to alter and rehome all of the animals on the property. When he first came to us he was quite timid and unsure, but those days are long gone. Freddie is a very enthusiastic boy who needs a bit of work on his manners, he is working on the off command and his mouthiness but once he is out of the kennel for about five minutes on his walk he really calms down. You can get his attention with a treat and then he is yours to command... You just have to teach him those commands. He knows `sit` and would gladly learn other tricks. Due to him still learning his manners we think he would do best in a home without young kids for now. However, once he goes through some basic obedience we would see him in almost any home environment.Did you know YHS lets local community members FOSTER TO ADOPT?That`s where you and the pet make sure you`re a good fit for one another by having a fun sleepover prior to finalizing your adoption. Story
Meet Charlie, a one year old German Shepherd/Husky mix.Charlie is a cutie with rounded ears and knows how to `sit` and `shake`. He met a grumpy older dog when he came in and did great with her, he didn`t seem to take anything she did to heart. Charlie walks pretty well on leash and is a friendly, goofy guy. He is doing great for his teenage age and just needs a little bit of basic training to polish him off. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. Story
Meet Nova, a four year old German Shepherd/Grey Hound mix weighing 58 pounds (although she is quite overweight).Nova`s story is a sad one, she is quite literally the stereotypical case of her owners getting a puppy and no longer wanting her. She came in as a stray and we called the owners on the microchip and were told we had the wrong number. Some people came in who help with the greenway and said the chipped owner had owned the dog for a while and were homeless. When she was told by them that the dog is at YHS she told them that she is fine with that as she left it at the park because she now has puppies that she would rather have. The greenway people said she has been found multiple times by them before being returned to her owner and she is good with dogs of all sizes and even their cats. Nova is so cute; she does a little happy dance when she gets excited in her kennel. She does need to lose weigh in order to stay healthy and live a long life. She is so friendly, loves going for walks and very active even with her size so we think she will lose her weight without issue. This silly lady is treat motivated and keeps us laughing. Meet Harry, a three year old German Shepherd/Husky mix weighing around 60 pounds. Harry is a friendly guy who was found running around with Lloyd getting into trouble with the local cat population, for this reason we are looking for a home for Harry that is feline free. Harry has a good amount of energy that would probably make him a great walking or hiking companion if you are into that. If you have a nice backyard he would enjoys running around that as well.
