Story
Duke is a fun loving and playful 8 month old GSP! He is great with people of all ages and readily greets new people with excitement and interest. He is currently being fostered with a family with 3 kids (9,6,4) and 2 dogs (14 yr old cur mix and 9 yr old GSP). He is great with all the kids and is very tolerant when the 4 yr old wants to play dress up. He loves to sleep in bed with the 9 yr old and will sleep through the night. When he is not in bed with the 9 yr old, he has no problem sleeping in his own dog bed on the floor of the master bedroom. He is great with dogs of all ages and sizes. He is very inquisitive when meeting new dogs but will naturally be submissive and is great at taking cues from the other dog if they don’t want to be bothered. He has spent many weekends with a 14 yr old miniature dachshund and a 1.5 yr old bernedoodle. He loves to play but is easily quieted down when needed. Duke has only shown interest in the dog toys that we have. If he does happen to get one of the kids toys, he releases it easily and can be directed to one of the dog toys. When he is excited or happy to see you he will jump up but is currently working on his manners. He is a very smart boy and has done well commands such as sit, stay, wait, lay down, off, and come (we are currently using an e-collar for outdoor training so he is able to have free roam of the yard and burn some energy sniffing, chasing, and playing fetch). Duke takes treats very gently and has shown no signs of food aggression. He will easily let you take his food or put your hands in his bowl. However, he is definitely a counter suffer and will try to take any food that is within reach off the counter. His foster has not found a great way to discourage this type of behavior but continue to work with him on it. He very easily goes into his kennel with the word “kennel”. He takes about 10-15 mins to calm down once in there. He has 2 Benebones and a deer antler in there to help with this transition. He utilizes these items a lot. Duke has only been able to stay in his kennel for about 4-6 hours before having an accident. The longest he has gone in his kennel without an accident was 8 hrs but that was only once. He is still working on holding pee while playing in the house. He has had a couple of accidents on the floor but is easily encouraged to stop and will continue to pee once outside. Duke loves to be with his family and will whine if left inside while everyone else is outside. He is being walked about 2 miles a day and is getting about 1-2 hrs of off leash time running outside playing fetch, chasing our other GSP, and sniffing/chasing squirrels and other animals each day. He is getting used to the water but hasn’t readily gone in by himself yet. Duke is a great mix of GSP energy but can calm down and enjoy snuggles on the couch or quietly lay near while you are working. He would be a wonderful addition to any semi-active or active family! ##2076655##

Story
We are still looking for Judd's new family. If you applied for him and still interested in adopting please respond to our volunteers request to schedule your home visit.  UPDATE on Judd: Judd is a great dog with a LOT of energy, and has adjusted beautifully to his foster home. Due to the attention and exercise demands typical of a GSP his age, he will likely do very well with an active family who can keep up with him, and perhaps another dog. He has had limited exposure to children, When around them, has been calm and gentle around kids of all ages, and has not tried to jump on them.   He has been great with both people and dogs both in public and at home. Sometimes he is so excited that he will attempt to jump to greet a person, but we have been working on that and it has become less frequent.  He is not fazed by automobile traffic or other urban noises.   At home, he will settle in after a good walk and sits/lies in his favorite spot, which is at the window watching for people and critters. When people visit or when he hears noises outside, he is very attentive but does not bark!    Judd has no resource guarding issues, and will allow you to clip his toenails, check his ears, nose, mouth, legs. When overly excited, he might nip at your hand, though that behavior has been curtailed as he is given the exercise and attention he needs.    Judd has blossomed into a very affectionate and trusting dog. For the first few days he was understandably unsure and confused, but has gained confidence and has settled in very nicely to the daily routines.  He is a very good boy and a beautiful specimen of a German Shorthaired Pointer. His youth makes him somewhat needy and unrefined, but with the right adopter who understands the breed and his needs, he could be someone’s dream dog. Judd is a great dog with a LOT of energy, and he would do well with more than one adult (mostly due to the attention and exercise demands), and perhaps another dog. With his limited exposure to kids, he has been  gentle and calm. He seems to really like men, and doesn’t have an aversion to any people he has met on walks. In fact, he will seek out contact with people along the way by walking toward them when they pass by.He goes on three walks a day, to the lake, river, and various parks, and he seems to love it! He was afraid of the lake waves, but with more exposure he can get over that with some gentle encouragement. He is not fazed by automobile traffic or other urban noises, though he has been scared of flags flapping in the wind, statues, and other things that I think he just isn’t used to. He has already overcome his caution on the flag and the statues, so gentle exposure is all he needs. At his vet appointment, he was calm and showed no signs of fear or pain with his vaccination updates. He did cry as his anal glands were expressed, but recovered nicely once that was done. He could be a good hunter, though his foster is not necessarily equipped to judge, other than seeing his drive in the yard and constant lookout for anything flying or moving. His foster has seen him blossom into a very affectionate and trusting dog. For the first few days he was understandably unsure and confused, but has gained confidence in his short time with them. He is a very good boy and a beautiful specimen of a German Shorthaired Pointer. His youth makes him somewhat needy and unrefined, but with the right adopter who understands his needs, he could be someone’s dream dog. ##2041236##

Story
Hi friends! My name is Lucky! I am a sweet and somewhat timid 3-year-old girl that was surrendered because there were too many dogs in the home. Some dogs here at the shelter overwhelm me here, but I may be able to share my future home with another dog. We just gotta meet each other first to make sure we would be a good fit. I was adopted then returned a few weeks later because I was getting protective of my owner and not getting along with the child in the home. I had never been around kids before though, so maybe a better fit would be with older kids? A home that doesn't have a ton of visitors would probably be best for me as well. I was originally an outdoor dog, so I would need to be worked with on my potty training and how to be an indoor dog, but I am a smart breed, so with some consistency, I should be able to adjust just fine! Once I am comfortable with people, I have lots of energy and spunk, but sometimes it takes a bit to get it out of me. I am yearning for a place to call my own, and I really am a good dog! Someone just needs to give me a chance! Could that be with you? Ask to meet me at the shelter! Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 61.31 Age: 3yrs 5mths 0wks
