Story
***Staff thinks I will be ready by mid August. My foster family says, `Hyacinth is the most independent puppy of her litter. She is the most adventurous of the group and loves to run around in the yard, to play and explore. She is an all-around amazing puppy!`*** I am not currently at the shelter because I`m growing big and strong in a foster home! You can sign up to pre-adopt me by placing a $50 choice hold. This is a non-refundable fee that does not go towards my adoption fee, but it does give you the first opportunity to adopt me. Shelter staff will contact you when I’m ready to go home with my new family! To place a choice hold, you can either come into the shelter or call us at 719-473-1741; you may wait to speak with a customer service representative or leave a voicemail. Choice holds are placed on a first-come, first-serve basis and only one choice hold can be placed on an animal. Once I am old enough to go home, I will have to be adopted at the shelter without a visit. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to visit while I’m in the foster home as it’s a lot of stress on me to be transported back and forth to the shelter for visits, which makes me more susceptible to getting sick. We want to be healthy for our new life together!

Story
Little Klondike may be the smallest of the litter but he is fiesty! He will take on any of his litter mates for a good chase or wrestle. He has a very sweet disposition and is another one of the more adventurous of the litter. He has the cutest little howl/bark when he is hungry or needs a cuddle.  Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2110319##

Story
Highlights: -Needs a fenced yard-Needs a confident canine sibling -Needs patient adopter I am part of the "Go BIG for Summer" adoption promotion and my adoption fee is reduced to $200 (instead of $350) through August 31st!Meet Sylvia, a 64-pound female Golden Retriever with a heart full of potential and a story of resilience. When Sylvia first arrived, she was very shy and shut down, but she has already made remarkable progress. She now greets people at the front of her kennel rather than cowering and shaking in the back.Sylvia is learning that people can be trustworthy and gentle, and we're thrilled to help her discover this. She does well around other dogs and would appreciate a companion with a similarly calm energy. Sylvia gets along well with her canine friends and enjoys their company. On a leash, Sylvia walks very cautiously, making sure she feels safe. She loves running around in the yard to explore and also enjoys basking in the sunshine, soaking up the warmth and serenity. Are you ready to offer Sylvia the loving home she deserves? With your patience and care, Sylvia will continue to grow in confidence and bring endless joy to your life. She's eager to find her forever family and share her journey of trust and love.- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
