Story
We got Penny Lane from a breeder in Dec 2020 in central Michigan. She was the runt of a litter of 12. Our kids were 6/7 at the time. We did several AKC group trainings with her during her first year. At about 7 months old, she ate a rock from our yard that required surgical removal from her small intestines. Within a few months, she swallowed a child’s sock requiring a second surgery to remove. At that point we tried a few different ways to help ensure she stopped this behavior, including soft muzzling and restricting her access in the house (she was confined to the living room/kitchen area). Slowly she seems to grow out of the swallowing behavior and we could get her to “drop it” with treats. She did develop a fear when coming close to her face to attach her leash for walks, but she has improved with that. Finally, she has issues with resource guarding toys resulting in nipping/biting. After a trainer assessment, Penny would do best in a structured environment with adults only.
