Story
Valo is one TALL drink of water with eyes you want to swim in.   His journey started as a stray running near a park.  He was scared and would not let anyone close to him.  Once trapped he was taken into the shelter hoping an owner would come.  Sadly that did not happen and after minimal progress in three weeks, putting him in jeopardy, we made space for him.  He was terrified of people, touch, the leash and would not take treats.  We assessed he observed dogs so placed him with a buddy pack.  He observed and started to follow.  Eventually he would take treats if dropped, then from hand.  He started to tolerate touch, accept affection and now seeks it.  He boops with his nose and is a goof.  He does well with people and dogs but does sometimes react insecurely so needs someone prepared to be patient, aware and help him continue gaining confidence through positive experiences.  He still has a ton of puppy energy but once burned off settles. He is great on leash with proper handling, despite his size. He loves adventure and does well at all of our adoption events. He did well when cat tested but while fostered with a cat did not.  The cat was sick and elderly so we could not further assess and had to pull him back to the facility where he resides now.  If you are not ready for a permanent companion but can make room for a goofy dog he would greatly benefit by a foster to help him grow more with one on one in a dedicated setting.  It would help us get to know him better and prepare for his future home. Because of my Flight Risk I cannot be left unattended in a yard, crate training is a must when you are gone, tight grip on the leash is a must on adventures and my new family must be aware of open doors and windows.  NO offleash activities in unfenced areas for life. ATTENTION:  All of our dogs are in private foster homes.  We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs.  If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to www.secondchancedogrescue.org and complete an application.    We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt. // // Meet Auggie! Auggie is a 5 year old Great Pyrenees mix who weighs about 65 lbs.  He'd love to have a family and a yard where he can run and play, his favorite thing to do. He is not really interested in going anywhere, home is where this big boy's heart is. Auggie is a loving and playful dog who enjoys all kind of toys. He's had one-on-one training and classes, knows obedience cues, and follows them very well. He is also walking properly on leash, is potty trained, and knows 'sit', down' and 'shake'. Auggie will need an experienced owner and an adult-only family. He’s not used to being around cats and will chase them, so no cats for this boy. He's neutered, microchipped and current on his vaccines. His adoption fee is $300.00. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Story
Honey-brown eyes that will melt your heart! Howdy, y’all! My name is Bean, and I’m a 3-year-old, 120-pound Great Pyrenees spayed female. I’ve come all the way from Riverside Shelter, where I was rescued by TAP just in time before I was set to get euthanized. I’m grateful for this second chance at life and cannot wait to live life to the fullest in my furever home! As far as my training goes, I’m completely potty-trained and leash-trained. I sit on command, am working on “lay down”, “stay”, and “come” and still working on leash reactivity. I am a sweet, loving and calm girl who is friendly to every human I meet! I love physical contact - and holding your hand! I take my job of protecting the house very seriously when my humans are gone and I am on alert for any unusual noises and will bark them away. I prefer getting love from my humans over playing with toys. I am dog selective and need to be the only dog in the home. I require a strong leader and dedicated owner who will continue my progress in leash training and working on my desensitization on seeing dogs near my territory, and redirecting my attention. I have responded to positive reinforcement training and I am going to be working on muzzle training as well to continue to be the best girl!  I love to lay around and soak up all the love and pets from my humans, but I also have a playful and adventurous side to me, too. I prefer leisurely strolls and several shorter walks throughout the day. I am an easy going girl, and while I’d prefer to have company and attention most of the day, I am A-OK on my own, and show no signs of separation anxiety when you leave. Please get in my cardio and exercise before leaving, and have a nice snuffle mat or food puzzle to keep me entertained while alone. I do need to lose some weight and am on a new weight management program to get back to my ideal weight. I want to be healthy, so I cannot indulge in too many treats these days! My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/. ##1733844##

Story
Some dogs are worth melting for! Hi I'm Olaf! And even if I am not sure about warm hugs, I like warm feelings towards me! I am a 6 years old, Great Pyreness boy and weigh 120 lbs. I have not been neutered because well, I 'll tell ya. So let's break the ice with my rescue story. I was the guardian dog of a doodle puppy mill where TAP conducted an emergency rescue post a raid. You may remember the Doodle Mania! I have spent the first 4 years of my life at the hands of severe abuse and wrongful receiver of my owner's cruelty, and I have trauma that has made me afraid of humans, but more comfy surrounded by dogs. I have been in the best foster home since then where I have come out of my shell as much as I could. My mama gave me time and space and I am grateful. I get along beautifully with her dogs specially her TAP foster fail! But I do continue with my touch aversion and will not be leashed. So, any grooming or moving location will need me to be medicated. I also have hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis, so pain needs to be monitored along with medication. Here is my The Dodo story: https://fb.watch/x0lrk37S6t/ I am true outdoor dog and with very strong GP instincts. I spend my days guarding my foster home from unknown entities. I am a big strong boi after all! I am very sweet and gentle and I am learning to trust. After many, many months of decompression time in the yard, I have been hanging inside the home. I also come to greet my mama upon her arrival at home, will request for treats, but want my own space mostly. I play with my foster siblings a lot and they make me the happiest! I spend most of the day napping and do my patrol duty job at night to protect my 'flock'. I need an adults only home as kids and their sudden movements frighten me. I am a gentle guy and will floor you with my handsomeness! When my goofy and loving side comes out, it's the most adorable! I will need a big yard, hopefully a ranch, so I can do the job I was born for and have the best instincts for! A large property is better since I will patrol and bark at night, and guarantee 100% protection from coyotes, critters and what not. Understanding of my breed is key. Independent, smart, aloof, and stubborn. Side eye is a breed trait and I have it down! I would love to be given space and left alone. I am outdoors by choice, but during bad weather and fireworks, I ay come and lay down inside. 'Let it go......' you know?! I will do best with dogs and minimal human interaction. Mostly a sweetheart person who understands what I have been through and will not mind me ice-olating a bit. Any treatment with me or interaction has to be only force-free and positive reinforcement. I am very sensitive so patience and calmness is key. If you need the best guard dog, have a large space in teh yard and most importantly in your heart, we must meet up! My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/   ##1626191##

Story
Apollo is 1 almost 2 years old. His birthday is October 10th. He is super sweet and has a big personality. The king of side eyes if you get up and move to a new spot. He loves to cuddle next to you on the couch or by your feet. He is very calm for only being a year old. When he gets his zoomies make sure to not have liquids by technology. He doesn't realize how big he is and can knock some things over if not left high enough. He has three favorite toys and enjoys wearing shirts from time to time. Apollo is kennel-trained, but can be hard to handle on a leash. He loves making new friends, whether its people or other animals. He always likes to say hello.

Story
Winter is a 9 month old Great Pyrenees - part gentle giant, part marshmallow. Her disposition is sweet, smart, and she is a Velcro dog in that she wants to be a part of the family. She will do well in an environment where she will not be left alone all day - she would enjoy being a part of a family with kids, or with someone who works from home. She would do wonderful with another confident and friendly dog. She will not do well left alone for many hours at a time. She is easily trainable and very food motivated, and has some of the sweet stubbornness that is characteristic of pyrs. She is still learning table manners (aka don’t stick your nose on the counter!). She is also definitely still in her adolescence - so she will need someone who is patient and willing to work on her puppy behaviors (redirecting her chewing, continue to teach her to settle, helping her learn which things are her and which are off limits, manners in the kitchen) She settles well when her needs have been met - a 20/30 minute morning walk or hike, or a play date with another dog plus some training throughout the day will keep her happy. She walks well on leash, and hasn’t shown any reactivity to other dogs or people. No food aggression. She does alert bark (increases at night), which is part of her guardian breed, but it’s definitely manageable. Truly, with the right family, she will continue to blossom into the most stellar dog. 🐶
