You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) NEEDS FOSTER HOMES IN PA. Your help is needed to save dogs' lives. National Pyr (NGPR) rescues Pyrs and Pyr mixes from kill shelters where large breed dogs last only a few days. After dogs are pulled from shelters, they are assessed, vetted, spayed or neutered and quarantined for two weeks or more before going to a foster home. There are not enough foster homes in the places the dogs come from so dogs are transported to foster families where they can live in a home environment and interact with kids, cats, people and other dogs. Every dog that goes into a foster home allows us to pull another dog from a shelter. Please go to National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) to learn more about the breed. Then if you are interested, please read about fostering, then fill out our volunteer application if you can help and we will get back to you shortly. We thank you and our beloved Pyrs thank you too. If you can't foster or adopt at this time, please consider helping our Neediest Cases or making a tax-exempt donation by visiting our Donate page.  February 12, 2025, 11:32 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This adorable guy is Luke! Luke had a rough start, coming to rescue from a hoarding situation, and is now looking for the good life in a furever home! He would love a family that will give him his space to roam in a securely fenced in yard (he will require a 6 ft fence). Luke can be nervous in new situations but is very sweet once he warms up and gets familiar. He has a mild temperament and is happiest relaxing in the yard, calmly keeping watch over his humans. Luke is looking for a family that has experience with the breed and understands how to give a sometimes anxious Pyr their space - he will be the Pyrfect companion for these type of humans. With a little patience and a lot of love, Luke will be a wonderful addition - apply for this adorable guy today! *** See my video below. *** NGPR Pooch Profile Name: Luke in PA Age: 8 yrs 1 mo old as of March 2025 Color: White Dew Claws: Yes, Double Estimated Adult Weight: 85 lbs Current Location: NGPR approved boarding in Gallitzin, PA Medical: Neutered, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative. This dog travels with a Interstate Health Certificate required by the USDA confirming that all the above criteria have been met. Housebroken: yes Can be Placed With: Selective w/other dogs, no kids, no cats Fencing: Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed. Fees: Adoption fees are determined on a sliding scale depending on age, location and transport. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. Fees for dogs adopted locally start at $400 and can range up to $700 for puppies under six months. Puppies placed on spay/neuter contracts receive $100 back when the dog is spayed or neutered. Fees for senior dogs (7 or older) and foster dogs will be adjusted accordingly. More Information: Questions? The fastest way to learn more about a dog is to fill out our Adoption Application. If you call or e-mail you are reducing your chances of adopting this animal as we direct our time and energy to first serving those who apply. NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. March 6, 2025, 3:15 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Jonas has only one wish - he is hoping for a furever home where he can be a good companion to the right person who is a patient and experienced owner. Jonas has a long, soft, fluffy coat and is a smart boy who knows his basic cues, though he would love it if his furever family would dedicate time to add more skills into his toolbox so he can show off how exceptional he can be. Just like many of our pyr rescues, Jonas can be a tad wary when encountering strangers, but if you are patient and give him the time and space he needs, he will warm up to you in no time. Once he determines that you are trustworthy, he transforms into a loving companion where he may claim your lap as his own! Jonas will thrive in a less active home without children and in a relatively quiet neighborhood, where his people have the time and patience to continue his training. This big boy has all the 'pawtential' to become your most loyal companion, will you open your heart to him? *** See my video below. *** NGPR Pooch Profile Name: Jonas in PA Age: 6 yrs 11 mos old as of March 2025 Color: White with gray markings Dew Claws: Yes, Double Estimated Adult Weight: 90 - 100 lbs Current Location: NGPR approved boarding in Gallitzen, PA  Medical: Neutered, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Mary is best described as a perfectly proportioned petite Pyrenees doll (a "Pocket Pyr"). She may be a mix, but looking at her all you see is this mini Pyrenees with all the big dog characteristics including the “Pyr-Paw,” white eyelashes, and a beautiful fan tail (she's not expected to get much bigger than her current weight, just 40 lbs). Mary enjoys being active and will need an adopter who can accommodate her love of playing, running and zoomies! She is a very smart girl and her foster Mom thinks her personality and playfulness could allow her to thrive learning an agility obstacle course, as Mary needs to be challenged, and is a fast learner. She came to rescue with an injury to one of her hind legs, but that hasn’t slowed her down one bit! In addition to playing, Miss Mary is also very happy to snuggle, and will never turn down a belly rub or good ear scratch! Her favorite snacks are strawberry pop tarts, peanut butter and peanut butter flavored dog biscuits. Mary does have guarding issues with food and treats, but that’s simply resolved with separate feedings and controlled treat rewards. She gets along with other dogs and cats, but we are recommending older, respectful kids only who can understand her resource guarding. All in all, Mary will thrive with someone who is patient and is willing to continue working with a few of her quirks (and realizing she’ll be their shadow!) Mary has so much love to give and although this petite girl has had a rough start in life, her heart is truly the size of a big breed dog! NGPR Pooch Profile Name: Mary in NY Age: 4 yrs old as of March 2025 Color: White Dew Claws: unknown Estimated Adult Weight: currently 40 lbs, will not get much larger Current Location: NGPR approved foster in Erin, NY Medical: Spayed, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This lovely girl with the most radiant smile is our precious Cake, and who doesn’t want cake?! This beautiful girl is gorgeous and she knows it, and she never hesitates using her looks to charm her way into your heart, and it has worked on every single person she has met so far! If you happen to find yourself with a spare hand, Cake will remind you that that hand can be put to good use in petting her. If you somehow have both hands free, oh boy, then you’d better be prepared to give Cake your 200% attention, not only because she deserves it, but because cuddling with her has magical healing powers - a kiss from Cake can brighten up your day and make all your worries go away! This sweet girl is shy with new people, but once she gets used to them, she is a sweetheart who can’t get enough attention. Cake would like to meet and get to know her potential adopter(s) in person before adoption day, so she hopes you live close to Hahira, GA and can come say, "hello!" She is crate trained, walks well on leash, knows “sit,” and will come when called. She has no desire to climb fences, and a 4’ fence will suit her just fine. She has a low-medium activity level and couldn’t care less about digging. Her energy is better spent rolling around in the grass in the sunshine! And when it’s hot outside, she prefers to spend her time inside where it’s cooler. Cake loves other dogs, and really wants a canine brother in her forever home! If you are lucky enough to be Cake’s furever person, we are pawsitive that there will never be a dull day in your life as long as Cake is by your side! *** See my video below. *** NGPR Pooch Profile Name: Cake in GA Age: 7 yrs 5 mos old as of March 2025 Color: White Dew Claws: Yes, Single Estimated Adult Weight: 70 lbs Current Location: NGPR approved foster in Hahira, GA Medical: Spayed, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative.
