Story
Meet Ben, who will turned two in June. Ben came to us extremely emaciated, in pretty bad shape weighing only 39 lbs. ( he is now 85 lbs.) . His human had tried and tried to get him to gain weight, get healthy but with no success. We got him, had several tests run, noticed how fast he ate his food. We put him on a special ID diet, started using slow feeder bowls, and fed him small meals several times a day. After many many tests, much medication, and special food, he started to gain weight. He has now gotten adjusted to regular food. He may always need a bowl to slow down his eating but he looks great and is a happy boy. Ben is good with other dogs. He is a little dominant but does well with both male and female dogs. He did have a quick encounter with a cat, but not long enough to say 100 percent, but he did not do anything but sniff the kitty. We would recommend no small kids only because of Ben's size and we are still working on getting him not to jump up and hug you. While it looks sweet, he could knock someone down accidentally. If you think Ben may be your boy, please read on and fill out the on line application. RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. ( we are in Cleveland County NC) Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home. Story
Sadie is around 4 years old and is a cuddly 87 pounds currently. She is your typical, loving Pyrenees that has gotten along great with everyone she has met here. This girl is a true working dog and will need a farm to roam. If you have a 6 foot tall fence, she could roam with supervision. She was around cats and other dogs at the farm she previously lived on with no issues. She has always been an outside dog but is now loving to come inside with us and get cuddles. She was also immediately house trained and has not had an accident inside in the week she has been in. She is doing well with leash training here at the rescue also. This girl is just one big love bug! Sadie is spayed, microchipped and current on shots, heartworm and flea prevention. Story
Ally is around 4 years old and a very huggable 81 pounds currently. She has the loving, gentle Great Pyrenees personality and was around other dogs and cats at previous home with no issues. She has been great with the small and large dogs since she has been here. This is a true working girl and will need a farm to roam or, if you have a 6 foot fence, she can roam there with supervision. She has always been an outside dog but since we have had her inside here, she is enjoying coming in to take a break and was automatically house trained as she has not had an accident inside. She is now walking well on leash too.  She should be great with critters, kids and an active family. Ally is spayed, microchipped and current on shots, heartworm and flea prevention. Story
Joni was born September 1, 2024 and currently weighs around 20 pounds as she is the smallest of the litter. Her mom was a Great Pyrenees and dad was a full Lab. All puppies in this litter have affectionate temperaments and they do like cuddles. This little gal also loves toys. This baby will need all the training that goes along with a new puppy (leash training, house training, etc). She should do well with most active families but will need a fenced yard so that she can roam a bit. Pyrenees are a gentle breed that usually do well with other animals such as dogs, cats and livestock. They were around 6 cats in their old home with no issues. We were told that they also love popcorn. lol. Joni will be current on medical for her age. If you are interested in visiting or adopting, please submit an application at RichardsonRescue.org. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 26, 2025, 2:59 pm

Story
Hello, We are looking to rehome our sweet boy, Odin. He is a loving, protective, energetic Great Pyrenese that was born on 5/24/2024. He has been in our care since August of last year and has been loved by our family. Unfortunately, our circumstances have changed recently that have made it clear to us that he would be better going to a new home that can provide more space for him to roam around. He is house broken and spends the majority of the day lounging about however, he would be best served in a home with a large, fenced in yard that would give him more freedom than hehas now. He is great with both people and other animals, he is very friendly and hasnt shown any aggressive traits.
