Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Introducing 'Dalton', one very handsome and gentle giant with gorgeous amber eyes.  His most pressing need, besides a new home, is that he spends a lot of his time in the great OUTdoors!  While he's calm and well behaved around other dogs and loves attention from people, he makes it abundantly clear that he prefers not to be confined to a cage.  He is house trained and has good manners inside the house other than the occasional taking of socks left on the floor to his bed.  He does not chew things up but just takes them to his bed.  We're not sure if he's had experience guarding livestock, and he hasn't been tested yet to see if he also gets along fine with cats.  As you can see from his photos, his natural coat is long and luxurious, but he needed to be groomed and so was shaved early for warmer Spring weather. Like all our rescue dogs, Dalton is neutered and up to date on vaccinations, worming, flea control and heartworm prevention.  His adoption fee is only $200 which includes a LIFETIME microchip registration with HomeAgain.  If you'd love to claim this very special canine for your own, please click on the green arrow icon near the top of the page to submit an online adoption application (no cost or obligation).    Thanks for thinking rescue! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fun playful girlMs Kalei is smart, sweet, and a bit of a goof. Great with other dogs. She is a gentle giant.  She is looking for a home where she has a dog buddy. Kalei is crate trained.   She knows sit and is working on other commands.   Kalei loves adventure and would love nothing more than exploring new walking trails or riding in the car. She is a great dog and will make a fabulous family member. Ms Kalei has not had a lot of luck. She was hit by a car when she was very young and came to the rescue with a broken leg. As soon as her leg was healed, we discovered she had a damaged hip as well.   Kalei has had a hip replacement from the car accident, her broken leg and her hip are both good as new - or bionic! She runs and plays with the rest of the pack.     Kalei is looking for a family that will love her forever!  =========================================================  Please contact app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application . Puppies that are under 4 months old cannot be adopted outside of our Veterinary Service area. Please call for specific locations. Children under 8 years old often are not a good match for our puppies and dogs. In order to protect both, your child and our rescued dogs/puppies from harm, we seldom if ever adopt to families with young children.  Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events. Thank you for considering a rescue! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you. Story
I got Saint from a farm in Prince George, Virginia back in 2021. He will be four years old on April 11. Unfortunately I’ve had to downsize into a 1 bedroom apartment after starting law school recently, and I am unable to work or care for him the way he deserves. He is a really precious soul. He is a property guard dog so he is a little uninterested in strangers. He will definitely take some time to warm up to you because he doesn’t trust easily. But when he does, he’s the sweetest most loyal guy. Saint would prefer to live with someone who has land for and space for him to run around.

Story
I am reaching out to find a loving new home for my dog, Lucky as I prepare to relocate to another state. This decision has not been made lightly, and it is truly one of the hardest choices I’ve ever had to make. Lucky is a 5 years-old great pyrenees/lab retriever, with a personality as warm and loving as they come. He is playful, affectionate, gentle. He does has a little anxiety when walking outside, but when he gets used to the surrounding, he will enjoy every moment. Lucky is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. I am looking for a home that will provide Lucky with the love, attention, and care. If you or someone you know might be the perfect fit for Lucky, please reach out. My greatest wish is to find a forever home where he will continue to be cherished and happy. Thank you for considering opening your heart and home to this wonderful companion.
