Story
Zoe’s racing career was short and completely undistinguished, so we’re not surprised that she has settled into couch potato heaven with a happy sigh and not a trace of anxiety. Still only four years old, more than one person has described her as an old soul; wise and loving and a delight to be around. She has been introduced to other people and dogs very easily and takes great delight in play dates with a neighbor Silkhound, who keeps her on her toes. We don’t think Zoe will suddenly develop a genuine desire to hike long distances (although her sleek physique and shining black coat makes her look like she’s constantly on the move) and we are hopeful that her laid-back nature will extend to being prepared to share her couch with a cat.

Story
Winnie is still pretty much a puppy: endlessly curious, zany and sometimes willful. Whatever her name might suggest, her trainer never tapped her as a racing prospect, and she came straight from the ‘beginner’s kennel’ to our adoption program. At heart Winnie is happy, friendly and sociable, but like some teenagers she does like to push at boundaries and needs steady leadership and consistent expectations to keep her at her best. If left unchecked, she may try to adopt ‘top dog’ behavior and guard her precious things, or bully gentler pets. We’re looking for a forever family who will channel Winnie’s puppy energy positively with lots of activity and consistent training. A house with a fenced yard and a dog door will be best for this active girl.

Story
James will turn 5 in January 2025, having never set paw on a professional racetrack. In fact, this powerhouse of a hound has proved to be a genuinely shy boy, anxious around new people and things. After years living in the rough and tumble of a communal kennel without graduating to competitive racing, James has a lot to learn about pet life, from basic leash manners to bed-flopping for this sensitive guy. With the help of an experienced and patient foster family, James is beginning to believe that his new life is real and is starting to relax and enjoy being an at-home hound. We’re hoping his gentle nature means he will be cat trainable – watch out on our social media pages for updates on his Cat Test. James’ ideal forever home will have a fenced yard, quiet corners he can call his own, and a easy, calm routine he can rely on.

She is a brainy, brawny, and bubbly brindle beauty who loves to learn and works extra hard to please.Rey, a six-year old female greyhound mix originally from South Korea, has a cool-looking striped coat, an alert expression, and plenty of energy. Friendly, outgoing and literally a “hugger”, Rey loves all humans, though she might love men even a little extra! This girl is surprisingly strong and could probably pull a 747 without breaking a sweat. The best home for Rey will be one which gives her space to exercise, ideally in her own yard, and lots of mental and physical activity. Like most extra smart individuals regardless of species, Rey needs to be kept mentally stimulated to avoid slipping into mischief. Rey’s ideal family will keep her intellectually engaged with learning new things, going to interesting places, and sharing their lives’ adventures with her. Sports or service work would be great ways to keep her mind challenged. While it isn’t a must for her to live with people who are home all the time, Rey will need to be around her family a lot. Rey loves going on car rides -short or long- because she knows they take her to new places and reveal interesting things! One of Rey’s favorite things is to tear a stuffed toy apart from limb to limb; when she finally locates the squeaker she is in bliss. Because most humans don’t approve of toy destruction, Rey has had many toys taken away from her. As a result, when it comes to her toys she has learned not to trust most people, because so many people have “stolen” so many toys before she could destroy them properly! This is why Rey must go to a home without kids. Rey just doesn’t trust people with her valuables (like toys) until she really knows them first. Once she does trust you though she can be convinced to relax her toy vigilance with savvy handling. This girl’s trust can be earned with just lots of treats, play, and cuddles or belly rubs. GPI’s trainer will teach Rey’s new family methods for interacting with Rey and her toys in four free one-on-one training sessions, and offer priority paid sessions thereafter as needed. She must be the only dog in the household as she wants to protect “her” people and space, as well as food and toys, from other dogs. Apart from this, Rey is very tolerant of other dogs, even in close proximity. But she doesn’t seem at all interested in making dog friends. She absolutely can never live with cats or other small animals.Rey is generally good on a leash, non-reactive when passing other dogs, and will make a wonderful- albeit really strong -walking companion. With a savvy handler she is well behaved in most public places, though places like pet supply stores where she can easily snag a toy she considers valuable should be avoided. This is how the person who best knows Rey sums her up:“If you look up love and loyalty in the dictionary you will see Rey’s picture. All this girl wants is to work for the one she loves. Her love is easy to earn. Rey craves mental and physical enrichment, trust, and affection. A little play, show her you're a giver not a taker, and some belly rubs is all it would take for this extraordinary girl to give her whole self to you.” Rey is past Dog of the Month!!  https://greyhoundpetsinc.org/rey-september-dog-of-the-month/ Sponsored by Carla and Bill Rogers, in memory of Gracie Rey would love to have a sponsor while she waits to be adopted.  If this interests you, please see this link for more info:  https://www.greyhoundpetsinc.org/support/sponsor-a-dog/ Greyhound Pets, Inc. - www.greyhoundpetsinc.org - 877-468-7681 WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO ADOPT A GREYHOUND?
