Story
Beautiful husky girl Chiquita, born April 2023, is looking for a home. She is approximately 41 lbs. Her mum and littermates were often seen wandering in the area of the SPCA PV sanctuary and staff and volunteers saw them in deteriorating condition due to a diet heavy on garbage and took them in to give them the care they needed. After she got refuge in the sanctuary, she lived through a hurricane which heavily damaged the shelter, and she had temporary refuge in a home that unfortunately had a landlord that didn't allow dogs.. but in that time, she learned what a home is and what it is meant to be loved. Chiquita is an energetic girl so she’d love a yard with some space to burn off some zoomies but was in a foster home in an apartment. She loves the beach. Her foster mom just loved her, described her as a fast learner, and a great cuddler. She has learned basic commands - sit, come, waits to eat her food. She isn't destructive in the home and did well in the car. She is selective with other dogs, and can be reactive, and would squabble with her siblings. Kids make her nervous so she'd prefer a quiet adult home where she can learn more about the world. Chiquita would be best in a home without cats as she shows high prey drive. Video of Chiquita with her shelter friends: https://www.facebook.com/spcapv/videos/1401202434079126 She is now healthy and vaccinated. If you think you might be her happy home, please contact us at pvcaadoptions@gmail.com for more information. Chiquita is currently in Mexico but can fly to a Canadian home near you! Story
Miss Scarlett has come a long way from when she first arrived in our care! Scarlett was found out at remote camp ground, with no ID and was never claimed. The first few days at the shelter she felt quite nervous of the staff, and her new surroundings, but since being here only a few weeks now, she has really come out of her shell.Scarlett loves the staff now, but will need some time to warm up to anyone new. She enjoys zooming around the staff and then plopping down at their feet for a belly rub, when you try to leave Scarlett, she will refuse to let you leave and beg for more belly rubs.Because she came in as a stray we do not know that much about how she lived before. We do think Scarlett would be okay with dogs with the proper slow leash introductions, but we are recommending no cats. We don't think Scarlett has had much experience with going to a vet and she can be quite scared, we are currently muzzle training her so that she can be safe at future vet visits. She is very high energy and because of that we are recommending no small children as Scarlett can get a bit jumpy when over stimulated. She will need consistent daily exercise and a daily routine. Oh and did we mention she is your typical husky and has a lot to say when she is left alone! If you are interested in Scarlett, you can contact the Alberni branch for more details, or fill out the BCSPCA adoption application. Story
This is Henry, a curious and goofy ball of fun! Henry has been having a blast in his foster home as he awaits a fur-ever family. There's nothing better than going for walks, having off leash zoomies, playing with plushy toys, and cooling off in a little doggie pool according to him! When he greets you, he loves to give gentle hugs and kisses

Story
I bet the majority of us have always wanted a Steve in our life. And that Steve is most likely a super cool guy who you just want to be around because he emits goodness no matter the time of day. Steve the dog is no different than the Steve you know. He is a super cool guy, despite the past that should've been kinder to him. Steve is a loving, big soft fluff, who unlike many dogs of his breed, does not vocalize a lot. Steve is a smart, active, well-trained local dog that fell upon hard times and that resulted in a lot of fear and confusion. He was often tied with a short chain to a cinder block and left outside. The last time he had been outside for a walk was unknown. His world had become very very very small and Steve shut down. This naturally resulted in resource guarding and reactivity - which culminated in a bite when someone tried to remove food in a bowl from near him. The owners tried to surrender him to various groups but no one wanted him as a result of the bite and the only offer was euthanasia. Thankfully we at Mountainside gave Steve a chance to show us his true colors. We quickly saw that he was loving - but so scared and confused. Through months of training, exercise and monitored socialization, Steve has started to make friends and is becoming more himself as each day goes by. He has had the wonderful fortune of being in foster care and then being very loved by our boarding facility partners that have given him the incredible opportunity to meet new dogs and learn how to be a dog again. Steve is working hard on making progress through some of his issues and though he has come so far, he will need his person to continue to help him along his journey. At this time we think the best fit would be an adult only family that is home more often than not. He has lived with other dogs in the past but isn't ready for that yet. Steve is a stunning, kind boy who would be a perfect match for someone who is patient, and willing to put in the work to give him the best kind of life. At the end of the day, he's just Steve, a super cool guy, who deserves a super cool life.
