Story
"Personal space? What's that?" - Elva Elva is our resident Wiggle Queen and master of the zoomies! This playful pup needs more room to run and a family that can keep up with her energy. She's housebroken and crate trained, and she's got her commands down pat - sit, down, leave it, and off. When it comes to playtime, Elva is a toy enthusiast! Her favorite? Tennis balls, which she can turn into confetti faster than you can say "fetch!"Here's what her foster has to say:"Elva is hands-down the sweetest dog I've ever met. Her approach to cuddles is delightfully chaotic - imagine a wiggle-worm with an unending supply of energy trying to figure out how to settle in for a snuggle. She's got the heart of a lover, even if her technique needs some work. Just keep petting, and she'll eventually find her groove! And forget about ‘me-time'. Elva believes that if you're on the other side of a door, something's gone terribly wrong. Whether you're in the bathroom or taking a nap, she'll be right there, demanding full-time, doorless togetherness. When it comes to playtime, tennis balls are her jam! She's got a knack for turning them into confetti in no time. I had to keep a stockpile because her sad puppy eyes are impossible to resist when she's managed to shred another one. I mean, look at that face! Elva's energy levels are off the charts. She could run a marathon, take a power nap, and be ready for round two before you've even caught your breath. She's a whirlwind of fun, and with her around, life is one endless adventure!"Elva's been known to get the craziest zoomies when she's happy, zipping around with pure joy. While she's lived with other dogs before, she would probably love to be an only dog and be spoiled rotten! She's also had her fill of cats, so a feline-free home would be perfect for her. Elva's ideal family will have kids who are 14 years old or older, ready to join in on the fun and keep up with her antics.Elva can't wait to start her new life with you - it's going to be an adventure packed with love, laughter, and a whole lot of zoomies!

Story
Resilient and full of heart, Gruff's journey has shaped him into the remarkable dog he is today. A year ago, Gruff and his owners lost their home in a fire, leaving him with scars as reminders of that tough time. Since then, Gruff has lived outside on a tie-out, longing for a warm and loving home. When Gruff first arrived at HSHC, he was understandably scared. With time and patience, he blossomed into a social and willing companion. He spent four weeks in an administrative office, charming everyone with his friendly, affectionate, and mellow demeanor. Gruff's gentle and quiet nature, combined with his intelligence and quick bonding, made him a staff and volunteer favorite. Gruff is completely housebroken and was never destructive when left unattended. He loves playing with his toys and readily shares them to start a game. Now, Gruff is a super snuggler who adores forehead kisses and gets along great with older kids. He knows his commands and is eager to share his love and loyalty with a forever family. Could that family be yours? Give Gruff a chance to brighten your days and find the happiness he truly deserves!

Story
If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website, for details about our fees and process, and to complete our Adoption Application.   ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis.  We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.  Hi, I’m Kailey! I’m a very friendly girl who loves meeting new dogs and humans, and I enjoy playing with the resident dogs. I mostly ignore the resident cats, although sometimes I like to chase them when I can get away with it. While I would love a home with another doggy sibling to play with, it’s not necessary if an active family will take me for walks and give me lots of playtime. I happily share my toys with other dogs and occasionally go to doggy daycare, where I play in small groups. I recently played with a friend's puppy, and my foster mom said I did great! I was a stray brought to our local Indianapolis shelter in February 2024. Due to a severe injury to my rear leg, the decision was made to amputate it. Walking on three legs is a bit more challenging, but the surgery hasn’t impeded my ability to stand, sit, or run. I still get overly excited and can be jumpy, so a home with older children would probably be best as young children might get knocked over. I love giving kisses to kids. I can sit, lay down, and am working on learning to shake. My foster mom thinks I might be a Lab/Husky mix. I am spayed, weigh approximately 44 lbs., and am fully vetted. Right now, I’m long and lean with room to grow but will probably be a medium-sized dog. I am housebroken and in fact, I let my foster mom know when I need to go out and will patiently wait until I get outside. I am ready for adoption and looking for an active family that can provide me with love, attention, and plenty of playtime. If you think you could be my forever home, please apply soon!
