Story
Update 8/4/24 Honey is a 4-5 year old Golden Retriever/Labrador mix. She was found in a field malnourished and injured. Honey was surrendered to GRRoIOWA and has been living with a foster for two months. Honey is spayed, up to date on shots, and is microchipped. She knows many commands and is house-trained and crate-trained. Honey absolutely adores people but due to her past experiences does not do well with other animals. If you are looking for a dog who will love you unconditionally Honey is the one for you. UPDATE 07/29/24 Honey is really enjoying the golden life. She is such an easy dog to care for. She has learned that it is nice to lie outside in the grass and watch what is happening in her world. She hopes the weather cools down so she can stay out longer. Most of her time is spent vegging on the cool kitchen tile or on the sofa. She loves to be with her people. This week Honey will go to the vet to see how much weight she has lost. She has been to the groomer where she charmed the staff with her great personality. She is an excellent car rider. We continue to work on walking on a leash. If you are looking for a dog that will love you unconditionally and that is easy to care for, Honey is for you. She is eager to find her forever home where she can settle in and never have to move again. Perhaps that home could be with you. 7/6/24: Say hello to Honey! Honey is a wonderful 3-4 year old Golden Retriever/ Labrador mix looking for her forever home. She was surrendered by the Good Samaritan who originally found her in a ditch, malnourished and injured, but who was not able to keep her. Despite the hardships she has faced in her life Honey is one of the most people-loving dogs her foster has ever worked with. Her only desire in life is to be loved. She will return your love tenfold. Her happiness is infectious. Honey is low to medium energy. She is a little overweight and her foster mom is working hard to help Honey shed a few pounds. She is learning the commands to come, sit, and stay. She loves walks but needs work on a leash. Honey tends to bark at people coming to the door and at strange noises she hears outside. We recently learned she is afraid of fireworks. Because of her past experiences, Honey will do best in a home with no other pets and children 8+ years old. She will need a fenced yard to run in. She will thrive in this environment. If you are interested in Honey complete an application today! https://grroiowa.org/adoption-information/ https://grroiowa.org/pet/honey-24-002/

Story
Axel was surrendered to us because he was just "too much" for his family. He's got a lot of energy and will need some manners training to really blossom, but he is a gorgeous fella with a lot of potential! He is about 2 years old and will probably do best with older children, just due to his size and energy level. Per his owner, he's house trained - he'll whine to go out, and wire kennel trained. A great fella:)

Story
Ban is about 3 years old. He's so super sweet, and he absolutely lives people. He's been to 4 training classes which didn't do anything. He can be a little nippy when he gets too excited. He needs to be an only dog. He's VERY food aggressive with dogs and doesn't like people near him when he eats you can put the bowl down without an issue just no touching afterwards. He's also toy aggressive with other dogs. Hes an escape artist and will dig out under a fence. So it either needs lined with bricks or you need a tie down. Ban also has seizures. We have been unable to get the medication for him because it's just not realistic in our budget which is why I want him to have a better quality of life. I'm only asking a $50 rehomeing fee because I want to make sure he's going to go to someone who is willing to care and love him as much as much as we do and will put in the effort to get him help and not just put him down.

Story
Rowena is a 9-10 year old lab mix (we did a DNA test and it came back lab/chow/golden retriever/pointer and several others) - about 60 lbs. She is house/kennel trained, and definitely wants to learn how to dog! She was found in 2019 living in a wood pile in Oklahoma protecting her puppies, so has some trauma there that needs worked through and a dedicated adopter will do so much for her. She needs a very structured living environment and a strong dog-savvy owner. She loves to be outside so would enjoy a nice physically fenced yard (no invisible fencing with her history, sorry). Privacy fencing will be preferred as she guards her territory. She will not do well in an apartment setting since she has a fear of strangers and needs muzzled on walks in strange places. She has been through heartworm treatment and will require an adopter who will keep her on preventatives and regular testing. She does well with dogs as long as they aren't tiny/can't be mistaken for squirrels or rabbits. She chases cats. She is food protective with other dogs, so will need to be fed separate / in kennel as a precaution. Once she is comfortable with you, she likes to snuggle and give kisses and hugs -- but it may take a few weeks for her to warm up fully. No kids for Roe -- fast movements and small creatures with her don't mix. Her adoption fee is $250. If you have an easy-going and patient lifestyle that will give this girl the structure she needs and are interested in meeting Rowena, please put an application in at www.foreverhomedogs.org and we will set up a meet with you!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.
