Story
LUCA is a 7 year old male, labrador mix. He currently weighs 65 lbs. He is a very kind and loyal dog that was surrendered to us for unknown reasons. Like any good retriever, he'll carry his toy around all day long. He must have had obedience training in the past as he'll readily obey sit, down, stay and come. Lab's can remain puppies for a long time, so Luca needs his exercise. We are highly recommending a fenced in back yard. Luca prefers to be an only pet. Luca does not like cats! Luca requires an adult only home. If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Luca's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Additional adoption FAQ's can be found here also. Meets will be set with approved applicants based on our "best family fit" approach. Thank you!

Story
LARRY is a 2 year old, male lab mix that weighs 48 lbs. He came to us from a backyard hoarding situation. He was running with a pack of 12 others that looked just like him. Unfortunately for Larry, he was the one the pack chose to pick on. In that kind of environment, it can get dangerous for the weak ones. We were at the home for the purpose of getting them all spayed and neutered. Our plan was to do this and leave the dogs with their owner. But we couldn't leave Larry behind. He's been with us since March. Through no fault of his own, his social skills are lacking when it comes to people. We're aware of the time commitment it takes and we're allowing him to absorb "us" at his own pace. He is now doing well enough to get him up for adoption. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. That was his issue, he didn't want to fight back. Fortunately for us, that's a good thing! What he needs now is a very quiet, supportive and patient home that will continue to introduce him to the world of humans. Dogs like this can give a "rescuer" the greatest feeling of accomplishment when one day, there is a wonderful personality sitting there, wagging a tail and staring you in the face! If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Larry's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Story
Meet DaVinci!!! He is a laboradoodle that is 4 months old. He and his brother VanGogh were stragglers from our artist litter. The owner wanted to keep those two but quickly realized she wasn't able to care for them. He is very sweet with lots of doodle energy. He has an appt for a spa day to get the not so great shave down before he came to us. DaVinci is looking for a home that is prepared to give him plenty of exercise!! He is currently in foster working on crate training, potty training and socialization. We expect him to be a large size at full maturity. If you're interested in adopting, our process begins with the submission of OUR online application at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com, or email us if you submitted an application within the last six months. We review and schedule meets (with approved applicants only) based on the order received. Keep in mind he is a young puppy with a life expectancy of up to 15 years. Our guiding principle for adoptions is to seek the right fit for family and for dog, including a home that can stay committed to him for life.

Story
Our cutie Clementine is from a small litter that was unplanned. This adorable and beautifully colored puppy is so very sweet and learning what love, kisses and hugs are all about! She is playful and loves to chase after the big dogs since the rest of her litter was recently adopted. Clementine loves a good chew toy and does well with other dogs and cats and children. Her beautiful coloring comes from her dad who is a Jack Russell mix. We anticipate she will stay under 40 pounds when full grown. We had a chance to meet both mom and dad and both have very nice temperaments! Clementine is good in a crate and learning all about living in a home. Clementine is a well mannered and quiet puppy! We're looking for a family that has the patience and time to put into a puppy to make her an amazing well rounded adult! She is a sweetheart of a puppy and would love to find her very own family to spread that love! If you're interested in adopting, please email us at blueridgerescue@aol.com

Story
Overall Marco is well trained. He knows sit, laydown, stay and come here. He LOVES car rides and cuddles. He enjoys chewing on bones and is very food motivated for training. He has a very mild temperament overall. Estimated age today is 7. He lives with two cats now and I have seen him interact with kids in the neighborhood, but personally do not have children. He would do best in a home that keeps him busy; mostly outdoor. Fenced yard is a must. He loves running around at the dog park and he is not a water dog. He does well inside the home (does not chew things up) but he does bark at other dogs. I think he is bored which is making him anxious and he can find a better home. Up to date on all shots; I have dog bed, blankets, food and water bowl, toys and bone. He just needs a patient and loving home where he has a purpose.

Story
Peanut is a senior 9ish year old, Lab/Golden mix at about 75ish lbs who was literally "left with the house" when his so-called people, sold their house... they just abandoned him. He went to a shelter for 2 months and they said that he was exceptionally friendly, loves other dogs and passed the cat test with flying colors. (GRRAND has not cat tested him) We are so happy that Peanut went to a foster home and this is what they say: Hi, I’m Peanut! Though I’m more like a Brazil nut! (haha doggie humor!) 'cause I’m a big boy but a good one! I love to eat…but treats…I don’t like them, I LOVE them! When I was at the shelter, I was that dog sitting in the corner of my kennel waiting to be noticed. All the other dogs were barking “PICK ME! PICK ME! and they were picked - over me. (sigh) Just because my muzzle may be a bit gray, or my eyes not as bright or my gait not as gingerly, I got passed over again and again. And then, I got SO LUCKY and someone took me into their home from the GRRAND rescue. Now in my foster home, I go readily into my big kennel. Then when it’s time to go outside, I like to run around the yard and then lay down on my doggie bed under the deck. When inside I will nudge you to be petted, take treats easy from your hand, sit on command, and go lay down when it’s time to. I am learning “Wait” and “Stay.” And I know that “No” means “No”!I walk easy on a leash and love to ride in the car and put my muzzle out the back window. When I am at home and not sleeping, my eyes and ears are attentive to what my foster mom is doing, hoping she will include me. I look forward to having a loving furever family and I will be their buddy and they will be my whole world!Find me on GRRAND’s website - again hoping that someone will PICK ME! PICK ME"! If you would like to meet Peanut, and give this deserving boy a loving home forever, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##1953019##

Story
Doc is a beautiful 4 year old, 100+ish lb Labrador who is hanging out at the GRRAND kennel waiting for his forever family and we can't understand why he hasn't been snapped up and adopted and in his new forever home yet! He cannot go to a home with children, so he is looking for an adult only dog savvy home, and we believe at this time, he needs to be the only pet in the home. He demonstrates all of the usual Lab behaviors; he loves to fetch, swim, and climb on you and park his 100+ lbs body on your lap! He lights up when he sees someone familiar and gives such an awesome welcome; the volunteers at the kennel just love him to bits and can't say enough great things about him. He is a big boy and we have him on a diet right now and he is getting lots of exercise. He has been swimming every day and we are working on his leash manners as he pulls hard - he loves to lunge at squirrels when we go walking. He seems to like the more passive girl dogs than the boys, and we are working on him taking treats from our hand less enthusiastically! The kennel staff says "He is doing well at the kennel. He loves attention and to be petted. We are still learning about Doc so please check back in a couple of weeks for more info on this handsome guy"!  If interested, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2000231##

Story
Roger is an 8 year old, 75ish lb Lab mix who is sadly looking for a home where he can spend his senior years! His owner has health issues which are causing the sad decision to rehome Roger. He needs a home with no kids under the age of 16, as he tends to be a resource guarder when he has something in his mouth and someone tries to get it from him, so dog savvy owners would be best for this handsome boy. His people say  "We really want Roger to go to a good family that can love him and give him the proper care and exercise he truly needs and wants. We had to downsize and now we don't have a fenced yard for him to run around in, so he is full of energy and we cannot get out with him the way he needs and he does not get many walks. He really needs a yard to run in, with space to spread out, be free and play, and we can not provide that for him. On walks, he can bark at the wildlife, and cars and bikes, so we all really miss the fenced yard we used to have for him". His people also tell GRRAND: "He is a sweet dog and just loves to be around me, loves to get affection and be petted, and follows me from room to room! Roger lets me know when people are at the house because he gets so excited and he barks a bit when they come in, but settles down quickly and melts into the background after about 5 minutes. He is very well house trained and has never had an accident in the house, and he will bark and let me know when he needs to go out or when he needs/wants something".  He used to have a doggie companion who passed away and he is said to miss his friend and is lonely. If you would like to meet this handsome couch potato, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2004235##

Story
If Archie could talk, he would tell us his sad story. Found as a stray, this handsome German Shorthaired Pointer ended up at Oldham County Animal Control extremely emaciated. Emaciated to the point that his internal organs were shutting down. Emaciated to the point that he had eaten rocks, as many starving dogs do just to fill their stomachs. Our concern became getting him healthy again. Giving him nourishment and getting him up to a good weight was a slow process. Dogs who have been starved cannot be flooded with food. Archie, who now weighs over 55 pounds, stayed at our office under the attentive care of our Dog Team volunteers until he was strong enough to go into training in Camp K-9 at the Kentucky State Reformayory. Now at about 4 years old, he is healthy and thriving, and a beautiful specimen of a GSP.

Story
ORION is a 2 year old, male mixed breed dog that weighs 48 lbs. From his foster mom "He is 98% joyful pup, 2% brat and 100% worth it!" Adopt Me! takes pride in getting to know our dogs well so we can ensure a proper fit, forever home. This is extra important when we have a dog like Orion. We sent him out as a 14 week old puppy. At this young age, he had no issues. He was returned a year later with an ounce or two of attitude. Orion lives for car rides, a good brushing, snuggle sessions, a nap in a clean laundry pile and the chance to play to with other dogs. He is obedience trained (from a tour in our Paws Behind Bars Prison Dog Training Program). He is also leash, crate and house trained. He also knows the "place" and "touch" command. Orion is all about exercising his intelligence capabilities and is a very motivated learner. The brat factor? Trainers have shared that Orion probably grew up, during his formative time, without proper boundaries. When dogs grow up without boundaries, they create their own. Through their eyes, there is nothing wrong with this, they need order in their lives. On the other hand, the inability to "share", can cause issues. But not to fear! The scale is so heavily weighted in Orion's favor, for all the good qualities he has, that the "not sharing" can be easily managed. It will simply take the right person. He will need a kind, patient but disciplined home. He will benefit from continued obedience training. Another young dog in the house would be perfect! If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Orion's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Additional adoption FAQ's can be found here also. Meets will be set with approved applicants based on our "best family fit" approach. Thank you!
