Duke was found as a puppy, abandoned. We took him in and he’s been such a good boy. He loves any kind of stuffy toy and napping hard on a couch. He has never shown any aggression and is good with other dogs.

Story
Doc likes his stuffies! Doc is a beautiful 4 year old, 100+ish lb Labrador who is hanging out at the GRRAND kennel waiting for his forever family. He cannot go to a home with children, so he is looking for an adult only dog savvy home, and we believe at this time, he needs to be the only pet in the home. He demonstrates all of the usual Lab behaviors; he loves to fetch, swim, and climb on you and park his 100+ lbs body on your lap! He lights up when he sees someone familiar and gives such an awesome welcome. The volunteers at the kennel just love him to bits and can't say enough great things about him, and they are happy to report Doc has recently just gone to a foster home (2-20-25) and they say: "Doc is settling right in. He is a great dog. We will update more as we learn, but there is a pic of him sprawled out on his bed taking a nap after his walk and breakfast, so he seems pretty happy and comfortable in his foster home! Doc is a very sweet and gentle guy. He sure makes a great watch dog too because when Amazon delivered a package yesterday, he barked and the hair on his back stood up, but as soon as I opened the door, all Doc wanted to do was say hello and greet him! He is full of the typical Lab Velcro dog qualities like wanting to be near you and follow you around. He loves to bring you toys to show you how much he loves to interact and appease you. Doc is very calm in the house but definitely needs more leash training so he stops pulling so much, but he is eager to learn and is very smart. His family will need to have the time and patience tow work with him on the leash training." He is a big boy and we have him on a diet right now and he is getting lots of exercise. When he was at the kennel, he went swimming every day and some work on his leash manners as he pulls hard - he loves to lunge at squirrels when we go walking. He seems to like the more passive girl dogs than the boys, and we are working on him taking treats from our hand less enthusiastically! Please check back later for more info on Doc, but if you would like to meet this big teddy bear, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   ##2000231##

DESPERATELY NEEDING A FOSTER OR FOREVER FAMILY!!! Don't Roger's sweet eyes call to you? Roger's dad is having serious health issues and we are hopeful a family will step up to help Roger AND his family! Roger is an 8 year old, 75ish lb Lab mix who is sadly looking for a home where he can spend his senior years! His owner has health issues which are causing the sad decision to rehome Roger. He needs a home with no kids under the age of 16, as he tends to be a resource guarder when he has something in his mouth and someone tries to get it from him, so dog savvy owners would be best for this handsome boy. His people say  "We really want Roger to go to a good family that can love him and give him the proper care and exercise he truly needs and wants. We had to downsize and now we don't have a fenced yard for him to run around in, so he is full of energy and we cannot get out with him the way he needs and he does not get many walks. He really needs a yard to run in, with space to spread out, be free and play, and we can not provide that for him. On walks, he can bark at the wildlife, and cars and bikes, so we all really miss the fenced yard we used to have for him". His people also tell GRRAND: "He is a sweet dog and just loves to be around me, loves to get affection and be petted, and follows me from room to room! Roger lets me know when people are at the house because he gets so excited and he barks a bit when they come in, but settles down quickly and melts into the background after about 5 minutes. He is very well house trained and has never had an accident in the house, and he will bark and let me know when he needs to go out or when he needs/wants something".  He used to have a doggie companion who passed away and he is said to miss his friend and is lonely. If you would like to meet this handsome couch potato, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2004235##

Story
Mikey is an 8 year old, 80ish lb Labrador mix who is sadly looking for a new home as his devoted dad is very sick and his only worry is his best boy Mikey.  He says: "He is well loved, mild mannered and well-behaved and is just happy to be alive. I really wish for him to have a good home. He is a loving and loyal dog. He loves to be petted. He is even tempered. In fact, we have a little Maltese who tried to start a fight with Mikey, and he just stares at him and walks away. He doesn't growl or bark. He is a little awkward cause he has big feet and when he tried to jump, sometimes he trips over his own feet but that's his only flaw. He walks right by your side and comes to a call or whistle. He is not an alpha male. He is extremely afraid of storms, though. If he is outside, he really wants to come inside when it is storming. But he is happy to sit quietly if someone pets him and keeps him calm. We don't have children around, so I can only guess since he's good with everyone but we do not know. He is totally unaware of the dangers of cars and he should be kept in a fenced area. He has no concept of the dangers of the road. He was a rescue so we have no idea what his life was like before last year, but he is a lovable dog who is just happy to be alive. He is well loved and it breaks my heart to let him go but I just can't take care him and he needs a loving home". Mikey is in a foster home and they say "He LOVES to be loved and is a gentle giant! He gets along well with our two other dogs and will play with them in very short spurts. He is very laid back. I work from home most of the week and he will lay on his bed by my desk while I do. We think Mikey would do best in a home with no kids under the age of 10. He is totally house broken. He has free roam of the house 24/7 and has not made any messes. He goes to sleep as soon as the sun goes down and sleeps until it comes back up". We are still learning more about Mikey, but if you would like to meet him, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2130286##

Story
FOSTER PLEA FOR RUBY! Ruby is one of the Spencer County dogs who came into GRRAND last September from the awful hoarding situation. She was terrified when she arrived and would run and hide behind our towel shelves. She has come such a long way since then. At the kennel we learned that she loved other dogs. She was playful with them and she even started trusting the volunteers, coming up to us for treats and pets. She then went to a wonderful trainer who has worked miracles. She now loves being in a home and is very trusting of her trainer and family. She's less than two years old, small (less than 40 lbs), spayed, housebroken, and as mentioned, loves other dogs and she will need another stable dog in the household to help show her the ropes and help build her confidence and a secure above ground fenced yard as she is still considered a flight risk. In order to move another nervous, unsocialized dog to the trainer, we have to move Ruby to make room. Her trainer says she's ready to go! Ruby was in a short term foster home and they told us: "Ruby is learning she can trust me and that a collar and leash is not the end of the world. I have been taking things a bit slow - baby steps with her due to her fear but she is coming along nicely. She is now crate trained, house broke, (we already know she is good with other dogs), learned how to go up and down stairs,  she has been meeting many new people as that was her biggest thing to overcome. She is walking on a leash, starting to play with toys, learning “leave it” which is a big one for her as she tends to try and back out of collar/harness and bite the leash so I am really focusing on that and switching directions often so she is not trying to lead me. She will do best with another stable/confident dog in the home to help show her the ropes and to also help build her own confidence and shed her fears. Ruby will need a home with an above ground securely fenced yard as she remains very fearful of people and is considered a flight risk at this time. I am sooo very proud of her progress!" Check back for more updates! Please consider fostering Ruby - she's a sweetheart! If you would like to meet her, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org If you would like to donate to Ruby's care, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/rescue-for-dogs-in-deplorable-conditions  GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborated to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions. Ruby was one of those dogs. It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.  If you would like to donate to Ruby's care, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/rescue-for-dogs-in-deplorable-conditions   ##2190863##

Story
UPDATE ON HARRY!!!! This is Harry and he will need a home with an above ground securely fenced yard. We are happy to say he is in a foster home, and they say:  2-21-25 "Harry is beyond brave, and SO ready to find his forever family. He currently is being fostered in a home with 4 and 6yo boys, he is safe with small kids. There is not a mean bone in his body, he hardly ever barks, and isn’t worried about people coming in and out of the house. Harry loves cats, dogs and humans. Harry aims to please, he is very responsive and looks for approval. Harry’s confidence has improved and he is more open to new surroundings. His hair is still growing in, the coat he has is so soft and white. He eats well, never begs for human food. Harry has learned the difference between his toys and kids’ toys. His crate is his safe space and if he feels uncomfortable that’s where you’ll find him. He is a perfect family lab, and he would love to have another dog or cat to play and snuggle with!" 1-25 "Harry is still doing very well in our foster home. He is listening much better, he still needs some work on his confidence but he is very responsive to corrections and managing his excitement. He loves his toys and knows where they are when he needs something to chew on. He is not an aggressive chewer, he has several plushie toys that he has not chewed through. He loves tags and peanut butter. He’s also an excellent soccer player. He’s very polite when meeting new people and loves playing with other dogs. We are still working on trusting the leash, he’s still very fearful of it. He’s not a huge fan of car rides but he tolerates them. He’s won over the cats in the house and learned to be respectful of the hisses, they can now comfortably nap as a group. His hair is growing in very nicely and he’s eating well. He’s a very handsome boy with a wonderful personality and is very smart, he will thrive with the love and security of a forever family."
