Story
This beautiful girl is Faith (almost 6 years old)... Faith was one of the breeder dogs that was rescued from horrid conditions from the Amish puppy mill rescue in early December 2022. She is the last Amish dog to find a home.
Faith is making progress, but still struggles with socialization with people she is unfamiliar with, and the type of home she is needing is not your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for her and they are: MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. She also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the house, MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16. She also needs a calm, non-chaotic environment.
We did a Go Fund Me for her training, but decided a better use of the money would be to engage a top professional dog behaviorist to spend time with her foster or adopter once Faith is in a home to assist in acclimating her to home life (ex. addressing stairs, vacuums, televisions etc.) .
Faith will now take treats from the regular kennel volunteers, and will even let them pet her for a short while, but she is still very fearful of everything outside of her regular routine. You can tell she WANTS to get love and to trust people, but she is very hesitant. Faith has only known the small confines of a kennel, so this new world she has been introduced to is very scary for her. She finds comfort in other dogs when she is in the play area with volunteers; She will bounce around, play, chase a ball, and excitedly 'run with the pack'. She has never shown any aggression to people or dogs.
We know we need to get her out of the kennel so she can begin her new journey in life. She needs to find a forever family or foster family that is excited to show her what love and compassion are about. Faith is going to take time... things can not be rushed for her. As said above, she is going to need to have a stable dog living in the home so they can show her the ropes and help build her confidence in everything, especially people. Faith is considered a flight risk, and will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home. She needs a calm environment and a safe place to retreat to when she's stressed, probably a large crate (which we can provide). We do not know how she is with cats, but she shows no 'prey' drive, so we think there's a good chance she will ignore a cat.
