Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Scarlet, a Lhasa Apso mix. Not a lot is known about her history, except that she’s spent a lot of her life having babies. She is so happy to be in moving on from that time in her life and is looking forward to having a loving home. She’s a loving, cuddly, spunky little lady who really just wants some toys to play with and a lap to sit in. She’s rather uncertain about new people, but she is brave and warms up quickly if you give her space to come out of her shell. She gets along well with other dogs. Having not lived in a house before, she is still getting used to all the new things. She’s been learning which things are toys and which are not. She will need supervision in her new home while she learns the rules in a new place. She will stop when she’s told to and redirect to a toy. She loves her blue chew toy and has started trying to tear apart squeaky toys. Her crate is her safe space when she can’t be supervised. She goes into her crate without a fuss. She will bark for a bit if she can’t see you or when you leave the house, but then settles in. Many times, she will stay in there, even with the door open. With this being said, we are requiring that she go to a home with NO shared walls (apartments, condos, townhomes...). She’s had very few accidents in the house, but she is still learning about house training. She needs to be brought outside after every meal. At night, she sleeps well in her kennel, but will bark if she needs to go potty. All of her accidents have been immediately after eating or on the way to the door after letting me know she needs to go potty. She does well during the day on a schedule. Scarlet’s front legs are short and her body is long, so the logistics of getting up or down stairs are not in her favor. She may always need help with steps. We are working on it and she can now manage one small step into the house, but still cannot figure out sets of stairs. She is perfectly happy being carried outside and getting a few extra cuddles in on the way. She’s on the larger side for a Lhasa Apso (around 17 lbs.), but not too big to be carried. She does have a couple of minor health concerns. She has dry eye in one eye, which means her tear ducts don’t produce enough moisture. She will require ointment twice daily for life. But she tolerates it well and it otherwise doesn’t bother her much. She also has a 3/6 heart murmur. The vet suspects it is age related and it isn’t causing any symptoms.
