Story
Meet Butternut! Butternut is an adorable 4-month-old, 9 pound Maltese/Pomeranian mix.
Butternut is the definition of fluffy, with beautiful pure white hair and a tail that corkscrews up over his back like a little pom-pom. Rescued from a puppy mill, Butternut didn't have the greatest start in life, but he got out when he was young enough that he doesn't show any signs of emotional or physical damage. He is playful, affectionate and loves people.
At 9 pounds, he is on the larger side for a Maltipom, which are small dogs. He is being fostered with a 4-year-old female Bassett Hound, and his two puppy mill and foster companions. While in foster care, Butternut has shown to be friendly with people, children, and other dogs. He is an active puppy. He loves to run, play and romp with his puppy and dog friends in foster care. Once he tires of that, he likes to sit with his foster mom on the couch and snuggle.
Butternut thinks of himself as a watch dog. If he encounters new or unknown things, he will let you know about it. But he settles down quickly once the unknown has been identified. Other than that, he is pretty quiet. Butternut is doing excellent at learning to use puppy pads and is working on his potty training. He also rides well in a car!
In short, Butternut is just a sweet, affectionate, cooperative and friendly little dog that would be a great addition to most familiies. If you think you're the right family/individua to give Butternut the home he deserves, please apply today. He won't disappoint!
He is fostered in Cincinnati, Ohio. His adoption fee is $450.
Butternut is a Patron Pup. Patron Pups have higher adoption fees due to varying reasons and are adopted quickly, even with these higher adoption fees. They may be purebred, a highly desirable breed, small in size fully grown, etc. These fees allow them to act as patrons to other pets in our care who may not be as adoptable, or have ongoing costs for medical care, contributing to a longer time in rescue, and therefore a higher cost for us to care for them. Patron Pups allow us to continue rescuing these other animals and give them a better chance at finding their forever homes as well.
To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt
All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.
For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.
We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
