PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: Fill out the application and we will follow up with you! We will connect you to his foster! LOCATION: Foster home ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Sue B (sueb@homewardtrails.org) ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for this dog is $495 ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 13 lbs ESTIMATED AGE: Approx 10-11 years KNOWN WITH DOGS: Has lived with other dogs but will resource guard his human around other dogs and/or ignore them entirely. He has spent a lot of time with other dogs and mostly ignores them. He would love a home as an only dog with one human but can definitely live with another dog. KNOWN WITH CATS: Will ignore them. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Louie is best in an adult-only home. KNOWN COMMANDS: He can sit and take treats and responds well to direction. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Louie is fully housebroken and does not need to be crated. KNOWN LIKES: Louie will choose his favorite person and attach strongly. He will then resource guard that person so he is best suited for an adult-only home without children and with humans who can manage this quirk. He's otherwise a very easy dog but needs someone with a bit of experience to know how to give him his space AND affection. KNOWN DISLIKES: Not getting attention. "" ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Louie is as cute as he can be. He is great about wearing sweaters which are SO CUTE on him. He's great on a leash and in a car. He can sleep a long night - great for non-morning people. He has few teeth left as he was born genetically bad teeth. But he's gotten great vet care. He LOVES his human so much that he will pick his fave and resource guard on the couch, in the bed, etc. So you just gotta know how to manage him when he gets bratty. Otherwise he's an easy cute boy who will cuddle, walk, car ride with you. And you cannot beat his cuteness HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines and de-wormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE ADOPTER BENEFITS: Free first exam with: - Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) - Free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington/Alexandria only) - Best Paws Forward Training Program - HT adopters ONLY ***A portion of EVERY ADOOPTION fee supports spay/neuter for animals in under-resourced communities ***BE A FOSTER: Save a life: http://www.homewardtrails.org/foster-a-pet/dog-and-cat-foster-program.

Story
Meet Pablo. This sweet senior boy was surrendered to the rescue by his owners who just didn’t have time to care for him. The husband is a pilot and is gone a lot and the mom is commuting back and forth to care for her dad, and Pablo was boarding way too often. They had him for almost 8 years and it was not an easy decision, but they are friends with Pablo’s foster mom, Amy, who offered to take him and help him find his true forever home. Pablo is living with Amy and her pack which includes a dog, Higgins, and three cats. The minute he came in the house, Pablo sniffed Higgins and they began to follow each other around – they were quick buddies. He’s also very respectful of the cats. They sleep side-by-side at night in bed and have had no conflict. Pablo is a very adaptable pup who  would do fine as an only dog, with other calm dogs, or with cats.   Pablo may technically be a senior but he still has a lot of spunk in him. He’s a vivacious boy who has a passion for toys. He likes to compile all the toys in the bathroom and will grab one on the way out for potty breaks. He wants Amy to throw them when they go outside and he dutifully retrieves them. He has excellent house manners, is fully potty trained, and shows no anxiety about being left home alone. Overall, Pablo is a confident, social little guy who loves snuggles. Sometimes he can be a lap dog, but he rolls over the minute you want to pet him to show you his belly. If you call him, he will jump right up and plop down beside you. He loves to sit up high on the couch or pillows and loves car rides or just being with people. He greets visitors with excitement, but no barking. He enjoys walks and has good leash manners. Basically, this little guy is ready to go and dog and just needs a family to love. He is such a good boy!  If you are ready to give this fun, social senior boy the forever home he deserves, he will be an excellent companion.  Apply today! BREED ESTIMATE: Maltese Mix GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  8 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 10 to 11 yrs old COAT TYPE: Long coat that requires regular grooming ADOPTION FEE: $400 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION:  Arlington, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING. Bobbie's Pit Bull Rescue (BPRS) has generally not met this dog and is not responsible for any wrong or incomplete information submitted by its owner. The dog did not undergo a behaviral evaluation by BPRS.If you are interested in this dog we will forward your information to the owner who will be then in contact with you. BPRS has no further involvment in the adoption process unless requested by the owner and/or adopter. Here is what the current caretaker has to say:We needed to take my mother’s dog. He is a Morkie named Teddy who is 11 years old, and both Teddy and my mother are in some degree of declining health. I live in Fredericksburg while my Mom lives outside of Pittsburgh. Teddy was doing very badly last week, and I took him to a Vet near her, who diagnosed him with Diabetes along with some related vision loss. He has responded to his insulin thus far, and we are at the Blood Panels stages of his diagnosis to determine if this is manageable in the long term.  Though we were able to get help for Teddy and currently have him with us, there are some problems that will make it impossible to care for him long term. I am currently living with Teddy in our basement (I teach and have the summer off), but we already have a very bonded, reactive pair of dogs who are very anxious about Teddy and need to be kept away from him at all times. We were hoping that our dogs would be slightly more adaptable, but this has not been the case. In any case, my fear is that Teddy would become a “basement dog,” and just sit in a dark basement by himself all day. While my wife and I are committed to saving Teddy’s life, I’m not sure that that is a life that any dog would want. We are looking for a better opportunity for Teddy. I know that the diabetes and age make him not particularly adoptable, but he is a good boy, and I feel that, if the Blood Panels are favorable from the Vet, he still has a few good years left. Here are some details about Teddy:     •    He is very food-motivated and is bit on the large side right now (25 pounds)   •    From what we have seen, he is fine with other dogs  and kids. We do not know how he reacts to cats.     •    He is generally good-natured and sweet, though a little bossy.     •    We have never seen any aggressive behavior or biting from Teddy. We are not seeing any food aggression either. Forgive the length of this email. We are trying to do the right thing for all involved and it is tragically sad and horribly complicated. Any help that you can provide would be a blessing, and we are willing to do whatever it takes to find a solution. If interested in this sweet boy please email us at bobbiespitrescue@gmail.com and we will get you in touch with the current caretaker.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 17, 2024, 8:37 am
