We are looking for a caring, experienced dog adopter for our sweet-to-humans but dog-and-cat-reactive boy, Duke. Duke is crate trained, leash trained, food motivated, and highly energetic and intelligent. He benefits from lots of love and affection as well as plenty of enrichment and exercise. He has gotten into two physical altercations with our other dog Fiona, neither of which have resulted in injuries to either dog (aside from scratches), one of which resulted in a moderate injury to me while attempting to intervene. They are entirely isolated from one another now and the resulting decrease in opportunities for socialization and exercise are what have spurred us to consider rehoming. Duke will need to be an only pet and will do best with people he can bond deeply with. A cot or blankets work best for sleeping as he has a history of tearing up plush dog beds. Please only inquire further if you are willing to spend time getting to know Duke before welcoming him into your home.

I've been sponsored by the Petfinder Kia Grant to help reduce adoption fees. Thanks to the wonderful Petfinder Foundation my adoption fee is only $25.00! Hiya, I'm Dusty and Let me tell you a few things about myself! I am a 1-year-old Plott Hound mix (best guess) with a playful and active personality. My adoption fee is lower because someone sponsored me in honor of the dog-loving Libby for her birthday. So, you can have me as you new BFF for only $85.00. I tend to be a little bit unsure of new people, but once we spend some time together I'm fine. I love the outdoors and would make a great camping or fishing buddy. I LOVE food and would do anything for a treat (so I'm a great candidate for training). I am good on a leash and don't pull too much, I like to look back if the leash gets tight to let you catch up. I'm quite the goofy guy too and enjoy playing and being near my people. I'm a little picky about other dogs so a meet and greet with another dog is a must. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35).
