Story
Hi, my name is Colman and I am a 8 1/2 year old hound mix who’s ready to find a place to call home. My favorite things in the world are tennis balls. I try to have one with me at all times, either in my mouth to chew on or one close by in case I want to play. I love to play fetch, especially in a big fenced-in yard where I can show off how fast I am. I love to go for walks or runs on leash as well, but benefit from a harness that discourages me from pulling. I am currently working on learning how to heel because sometimes I get so excited about getting back home to my ball I will pull to get us there faster. In between games of fetch, you can find me lounging on the softest bed I can find. Once I find a comfy spot at home, I will nap all day. I have enough manners to not jump up on a human bed if I’m not allowed, but would gladly join you if invited. I can be known to be a cuddle-bug and love lazy days around the house. Something I am working on is my socialization. I can be very nervous around strangers and don’t want to be petted immediately. I approach most people with my tail tucked, in a defensive position, but can warm up in a few minutes with the right mix of treats and fetch. I am never aggressive or hurtful, just take a bit to warm up. Once I know you are part of my family I will bond with you and become your best friend. I am very protective of my home and family and bark when strangers come near or in the house, but in my defense, I’m a very vigilant watchdog! Because of this, I’d be happiest in a home that doesn’t have guests everyday or wants to throw parties with lots of people. I’m working on my fear of guests with a few friends that come visit me and give me the space to patiently warm up to them. I am very smart and well trained and know many tricks, including sit, shake, down, roll over, come here, and place. I have also learned how to balance treats and tennis balls on my nose and await a release command to catch them. I am well house trained and will let you know when I need to go outside. I sleep tight everynight in my kennel and am happy to go inside if my family will be gone for several hours. I hope to find my forever family and home soon. Ideally I would be an only dog and would not live with any cats or with a young child that might not respect my boundaries. I would love a home with a fenced-in yard where I can run around but may do well in other types of homes as long as I get plenty of exercise and can go somewhere fenced in to play fetch. My ideal family is patient and can help guide me through anxious situations, training, as well as to help build my confidence. Most importantly, they will show me lots of love and keep lots of tennis balls around!I am neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and taking my monthly heartworm preventatives. My adoption fee is $325. If you think we would make a great match, I would love to meet you. ***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes. If someone has caught your eye and you wish to arrange a meet and greet, we do need you to fill out the adoption application. When your adoption application is received our screening team will verify the information given. Once your application has been confirmed and approved, we will be send it over to the foster parent for review to determine if your home is a good match for the dog. In the event one lucky dog receives multiple applications, please know we do not select based on a first come basis. We try our best to select the best-fit for our animals and families. ***

Story
Hi, I am Trixie. I was born in December so I’m not a tiny puppy but full of puppy love. I’m a small girl and probably won’t be a big dog at all. I’m not a crazy active pup like some, but definitely have my crazy puppy moments. I love to be outside and run. I’m a bit of a bird chaser, but we are working on that. I am quite the jumper when I see a bug. I can come off all fours and jump several times in a row. My foster mom thinks I’m part kangaroo. I mostly love couch snuggles. I’m a super lovey-dovey girl and like to be as close to you as possible. I am almost house trained, and sleep in my crate at night. I am used to cats, but sometimes play a little rough with them and might chase them if they run depending on my mood. I love kids and get along great with other dogs. My forever home MUST have another dog!!! Are you interested in adopting Trixie or another JCAPL pet you have seen? You'll need to start by completing an adoption application, available online at our website: www.jcapl.org. There is no obligation to adopt by completing an application, however, we do recommend submitting an application as soon as you find an animal you are interested in. We review applications in the order they are received. Completed applications can be sent via email to help@jcapl.org, faxed to 919-300-5524, or delivered in person by visiting us at one of our adoption events on Saturdays at PetSmart in Garner (White Oak Shopping Center). We will contact you as soon as possible once we receive your application for Trixie. Thanks for thinking adoption!

Story
Polly Pocket is an affectionate, sweet, loving girl who adores all people and dogs alike! She was 2 years old in mid-September. If there are children in the family, Polly should only be with older children because although she adores little children, she wants to give them (and everyone) kisses (which aren't appreciated as much as she wishes!) and may knock them over. High energy, she is looking for an active family who loves taking several long daily brisk walks/runs. Her ideal home is with at least one person around for company a lot during the day and either with another young, energetic dog to play with or access to another dog. As she gets very excited while walking, one person may not be able to handle both her and a resident dog at the same time. Polly would be perfect for agility training! We are also looking for a fenced yard that is at least 6 feet high because she can jump a 5-foot picket fence. You can get a sense of her energy level by watching her videos. The video with Haggis was taken after about 30 minutes of running around. Haggis was then tired, so he gave himself a little break by standing behind the bushes while Polly circled around with plenty of energy to spare! Couch cuddles and a bedtime story are always welcome. She adores going for walks and does well on leash. Such a friendly girl, Polly is always thrilled to see dogs and people on the street and welcomes them to come right up to her to say Hi. Wag, wag, wag -- Oh, boy, another new friend to meet! She will sit for treats on walks. Very smart, she has learned Sit, Down, Roll over, Shake, Come, Crate, Wait, Stop, Let's go out, Time for bed, Out, Go back to sleep, Off, Treat, Watch out, Look at me, Leave it, Back up, and Drop it. She is house-trained and crate-trained, and will go right into the crate when given a treat and often just on her own (she can go 4 hours between potty breaks). Polly lets you know when she has to go out. She loves her Benebones, marrow bone, and peanut butter Kong! Polly is very patient when given a bath in the bathtub and doesn't try to jump out! She also loves car rides and also waits patiently until you are ready to get her out. HISTORY Polly Pocket was found as a stray by a Good Samaritan. HEALTH Polly Pocket is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, and heartworm negative. PHYSICAL Polly Pocket is mostly Plott Hound, with a shiny black coat and brindle markings on her face, chest, legs, and butt.

Story
(DOB 07/03/2019) Are you in a condo, apartment or townhome and looking for a dog that would be a good fit? Then look no further than Rascal. He doesn't require a fenced yard and just loves hanging out with his family. Speaking of which, he can be apart of just about any family, too. Rascal has an amazing foster family where he hangs out with other dogs, cats and kids. He could also be an only dog and would probably be a good match for a 1st time dog person. He loves everyone he meets and is just an all around "best boy"! And the list of good things, keeps on going...he is crate trained (and sleeps well overnight in it), house trained and is good on a leash. He would love a few good walks each day. Rascal, also, loves going on car rides. So no matter what you are up to, staying at home, heading out and about, have a home office, or hanging with friends and family, Rascal will be an excellent addition. Rascal is a sweet and gentle fellow. He is easily redirected, and he tends to be curious and quiet. He does enjoy toys and some daily playtime. He is food/treat motivated and wants to make you happy! He is ready for belly rubs and lots of love and attention. Rascal enjoys naps and cuddles. He will keep you company and will rest when he has had time to play and explore. He is looking forward to being spoiled by his fur-ever family!!  Note if there is a fence, it must be 6ft or otherwised leash walked because he can jump high and can be an escape artist if not properly monitored, so let's keep that boy safe and secure! As part of Rascal’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little boy, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Rascal, you can fill in an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2149771##
