Story
Meet Fanta, one of the sweetest Pointers out there. She is moderately to highly active, is 18 months old, weighs 33 lbs and is Black & White. Fanta was found as a stray in Kos, Greece. We are not sure of her lineage, but best guesses are an English and French Pointer mix.
Fanta is a very happy girl that gets along with everyone she meets. She enjoys playing and running with her foster canine siblings, she is most happy when her foster family is outside with her watching her run and pointing out the birds & squirrels.
Fanta is very good inside. After a good run outside she will relax in her crate or on a recliner or the couch. Fanta has not had an accident in the house and will go to the door when she needs to go out, if we do not see her, she does get very active, running from us to the door. She has met a toddler, she wanted to give kisses and be as close as possible. We really see Fanta’s timid side with larger, louder groups of people, she will back off and watch from a distance and let people come to her. She is afraid of loud noises and bangs. Because of this, Fanta is being adopted as a companion pet only. She is living in a multi-dog and cat home without any issues.
Fanta would do best with a stable family that keeps a schedule, she likes routine. Because Fanta is timid, it is encouraged that she is taken to formal obedience classes and continue to work on socializing her to new environments. She will need a home with a safe and secure place to run; she has been tested with a 5-foot chain-link fence without issues. Fanta will need a physical fence. Since she is timid, she will not be able to go to a home with an invisible fence.
Fanta is microchipped, up to date on vaccines, spayed, heartworm negative and is on monthly preventive. She is being fostered in Iowa.
Blackie is one of Roxy's puppies. Roxy was rescued as a pregnant momma with police help and gave birth to her puppies in a shelter in Lamia, Greece. They were born in May and are ready to travel to their fosters. In order for them to travel, they need a foster or foster to adopt home in the USA, Canada but we also consider adopters in Greece. If you are interested in fostering or fostering to adopt, please see https://www.newbeginningsrescue.org/apply for our application form!
This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80.
