Story
Birdie is an older gentlelady, approximately 8ish years old. This girl is the sweetest little soul. She is good with male dogs, but she can be the dominant female. She would be alright with other females, but the other female must be submissive. Bird is barrier reactive, so although she is very sweet with those she loves, she can be a little intimidating at a fence. She would make a great watch dog but only if treated with love. Bird must be allowed to live inside with her person/family because she is very loyal and affectionate. Story
Juni is a 2 - 3 yr old female Pointer mix. She has a medium energy level, so she should fit in well with most homes provided she receives a moderate amount of daily exercise and play. She comes when called, and loves to hop up into your lap for hugs and kisses. Juni does pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, she should be walking like a champ in no time! She is food motivated and knows the command sit. She mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. Pepper is the sweetest pup ever. Super affectionate and gentle. She loves kids and the elderly (and people in general) and will protect the home. She loves to lay in the sun and will do anything for food. She can sit, stay, wave, shake, and keep a treat on her paw til you tell her to "get it". She is fully house trained and does great indoors and out. 40 lbs of pure love.

Story
Peter is our newbie, and the first thing our volunteers noticed about him were his sweet eyes. However, you'll also notice that humans have not always been kind to him. He flattens himself to the ground to give himself time to figure out if you are going to be kind to him. But then, we discovered something else about Peter. If you give him your love and kindness, he gives you his. Within minutes of being treated kindly, he happily enjoys trotting after a ball and getting all the pets. If you give him a chance and show him that he can trust you, he'll give you his whole heart! More to come about this gentle soul.
